Fuck the United States for polarising (no z) all of its politics into 'liberal' and 'conservative'. It infuriates me to no end to hear and read political commentaries that slavishly identify to one ideology while zealously rejecting the other. Most of you people try to blame everything on the other side of the political divide; "the economy is fucked because those gun-toting/weed smoking hicks/hippies are idiots".

I identify with US liberals more than conservatives, but even their bullshit gives me involuntary facial twitches. During last year's presidential campaign, they would nitpick on the stupidest, most trivial shit they could find, to try make McCain and Palin look stupid. Don't let me give you the impression that the conservatives are any better.

How's it feel to live in such a narrow minded political landscape r9k?

It fucking sucks obviously. Do you think I enjoy dealing with this Democrat/Repulican shit every day of my fucking life, seeing them accusing one another no matter what newspaper I open? Jesus Christ why don't you state the obvious.

The thing that disturbs me about US politics is that the people they deem 'left wing' would barely make center-right in most other countries...
    >> Anonymous 03/28/09(Sat)22:47:32 No.3676118
ummmmm 2 party system. polarization will always happen as long as 3rd parties are automatically written off as anarchists or commies.

there's a reason all the founding fathers warned us about political parties. they knew this shit was coming...

Dude... real people don't think that way. The only people who actually think that dichotomy applies to anything are people on TV and stupid people. Only the people on TV are just being paid to pretend, so the only people who really think that way are stupid people.

You can't make sweeping generalizations (ever really, but in this context) about Americans based on American television. Lots of us don't even watch the shit anymore because we're sick of seeing commercials and deliberately scary news.

    1) You are the one polarizing US thought into Categories. You actually have no idea of the real political landscape because you are not an intellectual, you are part of the crowd and a spectator, not a player.

    2) Ingroup/Outgroup attribution error. Outgroups always see other groups as whole and as undiverse.

    3) You're just an idiot. Read real political journals. Read real philosophy journals. Stop being a mindless scrub.

    OP here

ok buddy, let's break this down

"Wtf are you talking about ?"
So far so good. "I don't understand"

"Two big parties and the rest being shit nobody cares about..."

Ok, this sentence is a nightmare. I can understand it just, but I had to read it three or so times. "the rest being shit nobody cares about..." doesn't really make sense, but we can guess that nobody cares about "the rest".

"Sounds a lot like most european countries to me."
You're comparing US politics, which you described in a very confusing manner, to European countries, but you don't really explain why.

    "Troll harder."
I think you just tacked this sentence onto the end of your post to seem perceptive, and to lend validity to the mess that constitutes the jumbled mess that precedes your finishing line.

    Motherfucker.
    >> Anonymous 03/28/09(Sat)23:44:32 No.3676939

    1) I guess you're an intellectual and player then. Present your credentials.

    2) Your ingroup/outgroup arguement is interesting, but I'm not claiming that people should be, or can be, shunted into two labelled political groups, but rather I'm expressing my frustration that that's what I see.

    3) So with your presumed college degree or political experience you used three dot points to

    - dismiss my political knowlege, which can only be inferred through this post, while you implictly boast of your own unspecified experience.
-make point 2, which was interesting, but I've responded to that
-use your so far *bulletproof* rebuttal to call me an idiot and point me in the right direction to becoming as smart as you, you smug fuck.

Watching any American on TV discuss politics makes me rage. Thankfully, I know actual Americans that can actually agree and disagree on subjects across both parties, which makes me think there may be hope left.

As for >>3676304 I can say as a European (I'm not that anon, though) that it's because your politcians somehow forgot to go back to your previous isolationist ways after USSR ceased to be. The whole "policing the world" shit gets old, especially when your country just won't stop begging the rest of us for troops and shit for your cause and then complain it isn't good enough. Bomb away in the middle east if you like, but why the hell should we send our shit there too? Afghanistan is fine, 'cause the taleban are fucktards and we don't mind helping out when there's a good reason but Iraq was just gay. The strongest army in the world should be able to fix its own shit, right?

tl; dr: Americans individually are awwwriiight, American politics is fail.

    >> Anonymous 03/29/09(Sun)00:09:21 No.3677204
Beyond the talking heads on TV, the American political scene is actually much more nuanced that left v right. Our electoral system is set up such that two parties ultimately prevail, but there are many camps within each party. For example, over the last 30 years the free marketers, the law & order proponents, the foreign policy hawks, and the evangelical Christians had an alliance which controlled the Republican party. That alliance now seems to be breaking down, and the groups will reorganize. It's not a good system, but it's better than you seem to think.

Voulentary armies are stronger than drafted ones (better training and gear due to smaller numbers -- A draft would have every single American male age 18-20 in it, depending on length of draft) and your point doesn't really stand considering just about all western armies are voulentary anyway (they're even shittier than yours due to less money to throw at it). Your army is fuckhuge and adding a few thousand Europeans when your country still has tens of thousands in reserve (not counting your whole "if you've even looked at a soldier of any kind in your life, you're going back" policy) does next to nothing . It's really just to make sure we can't say "told you so" if you screw up, and it's getting old.

Like I said, most of us are happy to help if it's because someone does some horrible shit to you or you have another good reason to do it. But Saddam supposedly having a few pounds of anthrax you can't prove is there and absolutely no means of sending it your way (lol his SCUDs in the first gulf war AND this one) just isn't a very good reason. Sadly, our politicians are severely lacking in the "spine" department, so kudos to you for dragging us into this shit anyway.
