Are the cliches of whatever faggot country you're from real?

Well typically those with similar interests and viewpoints hang out together.

Not nearly as many fights as portrayed in TV unless you go to a school infested with niggers.

only marginally. for the most part schools are divided into poor kids who get in trouble, middle class kids who are often in band and do not participate in sex or use drugs, and rich kids who drink/party/fuck every weekend.

they're also usually fairly racially segregated. not officially or anything but the students do it themselves in most schools. it's pretty much grouped in 2 divisions: BLACK PEOPLE AND EVERYONE ELSE, and the arabs/indians will have their own little group some of the time, too. they got ostracized after 9/11 pretty heavily. and for good reason, nasty little fuckers smell like curry and shit.

pervasive enough for it to become a cliche, although most tv/movies will break it down like four or five well defined cliques exist nothing else, when really there will be a few groups somewhat similar to tv/movie depictions with the vast majority of the school going population much more ambiguous and less subculturey

there will most always be a group of athletic types as well as a group of nerdy or geeky types and usually a few drug/music/hobby(like band or skateboarding) type groups, but most people exist outside of all of that and just have groups of friends

somewhat. not nearly as much as it's depicted in movies/tv/etc but yeah it's kinda like that, although some people are like....in multiple groups.

like some skaters are stoners and some stoners are jocks and some jocks are nerds and some nerds are stoners and it's a total mindfuck man.

it really isn't like that at all, as people are *gasp* not one dimensional, but it makes for easy tv writing.

It's more complex than that.
It's first divided into rich/middle class/poor.
Then into those subcatergories, including many others.
And of course, there are people who transcend these and go into others, and those who are part of two or three or more and those who just don't talk to anyone at all or do anything with anyone remotely related to the school, and those who are in two or three or more of these and it's just so very complicated.

I went to a school filled with suburban yuppies and faux-hippies. Everybody got along with one another.

Yep it was like that at my High School. There wern't any wealthy preps or anything like that but the breakdown was this:

Guys who play Sports and their bitches at the top
Popular kids with a lot of friends
The smart but somehow popular kids (well respected at my school because of the high GPA average in the school)
Skaters/Snowboarders (my clique)
Hipsters (had quite a few here friends in here as well)

and at the bottom of the pile you found your classic nerds, band geeks, drama geeks, goths, etc.

In my experience American schools are peaceful places free of bullying and social ties. Please note I am not a very good judge of people.

Replace BLACK (there are like a handful of them) with MEXICAN and you'd have my situation.

When I was in High School there were 3 groups:
- Emos made up about 50% of the school
- Gangsters which made up around 20% of the school
- Everyone else which was about 30% of the school

The emos would constantly bitch about how horrible their lives and pretend their unique even though the vast majority of the school was just like them.

The gangsters would always be fighting amongst themselves which led to about 40 members of my senior class being killed by the end of the year. The gangs were mostly segregated by race. They would often break into your car in the parking lot if you drove to school and hot wire. Which is why I never drove to school.

Everyone else made up all the nerds and preppies hanging out together as well as the jocks.

I dunno, I went to a school with a gt program and everyone seemed to get along well enough. Maybe it's because everyone was around the same intelligence but only differed by their laziness. Of course you still had the different groups based on interests but they still respected each other and would mingle in class.

Yeah. Highschool sucked for me because I didn't fit in to any of them. I'm a loner, but I'm not super geeky. The other loners would become friends and play dungeons and dragons and shit which I thought was totally faggy. I didn't play any sports, and well... I really didn't have ANY interests. I mostly just hated everyone. I was actually a prime suspect for a school shooting which was awesome because Columbine had just happened during my freshman year, so nobody treated me badly. They were probably pretty scared of me so they mostly just left me to my own business. Pretty fortunate for me. The two Columbine kids really saved me from a lot of torture growing up

Yeah at my HS there were cliques but there was no pecking order. 95% white in an upper middle class neighbourhood.

Everyone mostly did their own thing. I was a Skater and had my friends and we mostly partied and stuck to ourselves, same with most of the other cliques.

We all became friends with the band geeks and the orch-dorks and we were actually probably the closest clique in the school. There was like, virtually no drama.

I hung out with of pot-smoking nerds. We had that grade 'a' sticky-icky oohwee! FUCK, now I really wanna smoke.

In my high school it was basically:
1. AP Students: Straight A students, preps, dramafags, bandfags, sports stars, and some nerds all knew and hung out with each other.

2 "Normal" students: Metalfags, skaterfags, emos, C students, nerds who never tried very hard in class, ect. Largest group so they didn't all hang out with each other, but were generally all aware of each other by first name at least.

3. Various racial groups. Asians, blacks, mexicans, ect. They would normally be in the "normal group" because they shared classes with them, but they separated themselves from the white kids in social situations. Not all of them, but enough to make a difference. the AP people all pretty much hung out with each other regardless of race.

My problem is that I was too lazy for group one but not enough for group 2.

My class of about 200 in an upper class catholic high school.
-10% Rich assholes who get drunk every weekend. Their parents stopped caring a long time ago.
-10% Super Jocks, not the stereotypical jocks, but the kind that workout all the time, generally super busy, and actually want to college scholarships.
-12% Jocks, the asshole ones who think they are better than everyone else because they are decent at one sport.
-7% The niggers. Enough said.
-13% Drama fags.
-8% Emo fags.
-10% The odd collection of kids who like to have fun.
-10% Nerds/Geeks/Future CEO's/
-2% Creepy as fuck kids who are most likely to come to prom with automatic weapons.
-8% Kids who do nothing.
-10% Normal Kids who fit in with mostly everyone but have no real definition.

I've been wondering the same thing as OP. Where i live everyone seems pretty normal. I've always wished my highschool was divided in groups.

I went to an Opus Dei-owned catholic school.
Upper class by the way, almost everyone was rich.

-The jocks, obviously, popular with the girls, etc
-Friends of the jocks, not so popular, but hung out with teh brahs, brahs.
-The "Badasses" C-D students, typical bullies, got drunk every week
-the normal people. This was the largest group
-The skaters/stoners/rockers/metalheads. I guess I fit with the stoners.

-the atheists/agnostics (it's pretty shitty to be against christianity in a hardcore catholic school)
-the niggers (spanish, italians and portuguese kids only, others were second-class mongrels)
