Why did the Caribbean get medium grade?

White people from Europe just seem more happy, relaxed, sophisticated, educated, refined and secure.

It's the half way anchorage between Africa and the US, and buyers there get the best goods as first buyers. Slave traders then pack the unsold left over onboard and sail to the 13 colonies to sell them.

In America, Blacks inherited the legacy of slavery and-- more importantly-- the oppressive laws which followed. These laws were necessary because there were a lot of black people-- they were the majorities in many small districts.

In Europe, black slavery never took off. There was no room for the kind of plantations they required to be profitable, and serfs already provided cheap labor. Subsequently, when slavery was banned, there were not very many black people. There was no reason to be afraid of them, and so they enjoyed full status (if some personal discrimination; little comparable to the laws passed in the South during reconstruction).

Blacks in Europe integrated and became wealthy and educated on par with Whites. Blacks in America were unable to accumulate wealth, and so remained poor. Poor whites are as bad as poor blacks-- fat and uneducated. Blacks in America have dealt with an equality, or a relative equality, for 60 years. Blacks in Europe had had 60 years of relative equality in 1930.

We'll see how Blacks in America look given another generation or two to integrate.

Actually the slaves in the Carribean died at a far higher rate than the slaves in other parts of the Americas so they would be getting the unsold leftovers if anyone. The blacks in Europe are mostly recent immigrants directly from Africa and aren't there in as big number as they are in the U.S.; they also do not have the stigma of slavery and yadda yadda everything that >>3389740 said.

There are certainly societal factors in play. As >>3389813 pointed out, blacks who escape poverty still bring with them their own baggage of being raised in a less than optimal situation; and their children will be affected by this. The impact diminishes over generations, but will be visible in the immediate progeny.

Regardless, there is a clear correlation between wealth and crime amongst both blacks and whites. Although this alone does not solidify causation, the fact that it can be seen across the entire world's peoples and cultures with few exceptions give it a strong case.

In continental Europe blacks are mainly recent immigrants from Africa. In the British isles however they are mainly from the Caribbean and started coming in the 1950s. There was a shortage of workers and so a Tory government began a program of bringing over people from the Caribbean. Unlike many Africans they spoke English, had basic education and their societies were more or less British. Despite these advantages you can hardly speak of a triumph of integration in the UK.

You'd think they'd be a little more appreciative. Slavery in the U.S. was still better than the rampant slavery in Africa, plus their descendants are obviously much better off as a result.
