    Moot in Washington Post Article.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/16/AR2009021601565_5.html?hpid=sec-tech

It's quite a heart-wrenching article. I feel really bad for him and I hope things get better for him.

    Pic. Unrelated.

Fuck Moot, he's a useless admin. He knows fuck all about website design (as we can see by 4Chan's horrendous appearance) or website management.

It takes the faggot MONTHS to find someone to write him 4 lines of code for a new "feature". Absolutely pathetic.

If anything, he should be losing more money.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)17:12:12 No.3223633
let's not have another massive thread about this, dudes
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)17:12:17 No.3223635
I wouldn't mind chipping in some money.. 4chan used to run on donations years ago anyway.

    >>3223620

Agreed. None of 4 Chan's success can be attributed to him or his actions.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)17:20:01 No.3223690
why would you feel sorry for moot

he has not done any work to increase his technological skills, he is a poor admin

furthermore he has not done any work to increase his business skills to grow the brand that is 4chan, he could have made this place self sustainable a few years ago but he choose not to invest and get community members to invest

instead he has been stupid and run up a huge personal debt on a website, its his own fault and he deserves what he gets

    >>3223704
it is about being mean its about moot being an idiot

he could have incorporated as a non profit, sure he would have to clean up some of the filth, cp and what not, but overall the site could become self sufficient via pledge drives and he could have become far more successful

instead he collected 20k in credit card debts and let this site remain in its infancy instead of growing up

ehh at fifteen i had a part time job. nothing special but still

furthermore he was not fifteen one or two years ago, he should have had some sense by then...or his mother should have beat some into him

what type of parent lets their child start to run up that kind of debt for a website, i mean he can't even parlay this into a job, that is just ludicrous

here is the reality of the situation

4chan as it stands now is not sustainable in the long run, there are 4 options

moot becomes independently wealthy and funds the site

the content of the site is adjusted slightly and a reasonable not for profit style funding strategy is developed

the content is adjusted more then slightly and he incorporates as a for profit business

    the site shuts down
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:12:23 No.3224031
    >>3223944
    I have a 5th option.

We keep the current boards. We keep the Anon. We make a few boards that require free membership and runs like forums. These boards (or forums) will get ads which will support the whole site.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:19:10 No.3224070
    >>3224031
how do you support the majority of a site based on the minority use of a few forums, who the hell would use those few forums with ads when they can use the rest of 4chan for free

it is not a viable solution in the long run, unless you have data to show otherwise
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:20:29 No.3224077
If he had taken the steps necessary to monetize the site years ago, it would now essentially be Fark with its own image hosting.

It'd be heavily bordered with ads a la the widescreen tvs in Idiocracy, nearly all adult content would be eradicated, and remarkably strict modding would be the rule of the day.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:21:07 No.3224084
4chan is the very definition of the "lost demographics." Everyone here falls into marketing dead zones. Even with the normalfag invasion.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:22:19 No.3224088
    >>3224070

How about we put ads on the free board, so one of the benefits of the paid site is ad-free?

The problem I see with any solution centered around advertising, is that ad companies will expect most of 4chan to have an adblocker.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:29:05 No.3224135
    4chan gold.

Seriously, make it so you can only view so many images/threads per a certain time frame, and if you want to view/make more, you'll have to upgrade to a better account. It doesn't even have to be registered to post, because that's dumb. People could still post anonymously. Make it bound by something else, (not an ip), maybe a 4CHAN GOLD field where you enter a username/password.

I'm not trolling, and I'd certainly pay for it. It keeps the discussion anonymous, it keeps 4chan independent as it doesn't force them to make content "more marketable" and most importantly, it can make money as SA has shown (in b4 shitstorm)

    >>3224135
that would drive away more users then ads or pledge drives

people would donate once or twice a year to keep the site running, ala wiki or npr

people would not pay to post and have their posts linked to their credit and identity

furthermore to establish any time of permanent credit processor and get some company to trust him he would have to incorporate in some form or fashion
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:41:56 No.3224186
    >>3224135
Do you think that people don't pay for cheap premium accounts because they don't have a few bucks? Nah. It's because they are fucking lazy. There's no easy way to pay so people just go another site. And there are always such free sites on the internet. 4chan would easily die that way.

4chan's average age has been steadily decreasing for the last few years.

90% of the people here are underage

which is why you do pledge drives with limited edition 4chan merchandise

donate today at the platinum level and receive an original limited edition EFG thsirt or mug....when this pledge drive is over they will no longer be offered, so donate today

you would collect more then enough money

you don't seem to understand, accepting any type of payment would require that he incorporates in some way, which would mean that he is forced to tone down illegal content like cp

i for one will not send the individual that is moot any money, i would donate or purchase products from a corporation, for or not for profit, that has some level of transparency

who would trust just one man with your cash and no accountability
    >> Anonymous 02/20/09(Fri)18:54:43 No.3224272
