Along with /soc/, /adv/ was created as a replacement for /r9k/ when moot deleted it. /adv/ was /r9k/ without the camwhores/attention whores, /soc/ was /r9k/ without the self loathing and misanthropy. /soc/ was created as a cesspool for all the attention whores of /r9k/ and /b/ to keep them out of the other boards.

Now that /soc/ is the only place where whoring is acceptable, /r9k/ just goes back to being /adv/.
