    "Lubomir". ("Peace-lover").

It's a Polish male name, the only one I'd consider for a kid actually.

It's Polish/Slavic in origin (that's important), it has clearly visible morphemes, it arguably doesn't make any assumptions as of the future character of its bearer, it isn't ridiculously rare, it's short and sounds nice.

The downside: it doesn't seem to have nice diminutives.

In English, I like the "Puritan virtue names", or how do you call them.

That said, I AM naming my first son Leonard, and will keep searching till I find a woman who lets me. After that, so long as we both agree, that's fine. Speaking as a man with a very unusual first name and surname, I can tell you all that if you give your child a name that is not quite popular, or isn't short or easy to shorten, you will make their lives a misery at school. Miserable school life leads to teenage criminality.

Even if your nationality is not English-speaking, do your child a favour and give them a locally common name. They won't thank you for it, but they won't curse you for it like they would if you called them fucking "Dorian" or "Azrael".

Urrrgh, obviously I meant men there.

Just out of interest, how many siblings do you have, and how many parents did you have? If anyone in this thread had more than one sibling and was raised by a single parent easily, please let me know.

I have two siblings and we were raised just by our mother. She found it immensely difficult to cope with three of us and working, especially because I'm very close in age to my brother so she had to have loads of time off and in fact ended up losing her job then, and when she had my sister a few years later we were then different enough in ages that it was awkward trying to find things appropriate for us all for years.

All of my friends that were raised by single parents also experienced this.

Well I have twin sons and look after them by myself regularly, their mother is much less capable than me. So you are also obviously of the opinion any family with 5 children should have the adults sterilized because a 6th child, or 3 each adult, would be impossible to handle.
