Has anyone here been to prison? Is it as bad as they say?

And what countries could one escape to to avoid going to pound me in the ass prison? I saw a thread with some guy going to jail and it got me thinking.

Would it be better to do your time or to flee the country?

maybe you were talking about me. i'd go for a couple years. i'd probably draw the line at 5 or 6 years, and try and disappear, probably in mexico or somewhere else in latin america. statute of limitations for certain crimes isn't too long - could be back in the states 15 years later. I'd take an exile of 15 (or depending on how you think of it, 10) years over having 6 years of my life mean nothing...

A good friend of mine spent five years in a state prison in california, allegedly the PMITA type.

He said it was pretty cool, as long as you weren't an idiot, could figure out the rules, and could break the system enough to make life easy for you by having something to offer other inmates. Prison is like anywhere else. Life is made easy by who you know, and what favors they owe you.

As far as gang rape goes, says he never saw it, only heard about it once, but all the prison sex he said he witnessed was definitely consensual. He said that, particularly, the blacks seemed to have no problem with prison sex with each other. Apparently it's not gay if you're in prison.

The rules? Well, the one cliche he did say is mostly true (he says most them are false), is that your first couple of days, you are going to get your ass kicked by some big motherfuckers. You've heard "pick the biggest, scariest motherfucker and start a fight with him or be someone's bitch" rule, right? Well, it turns out that it's a different rule, it's a "don't be anybody's bitch" rule. If someone fucks with you or disrespects you in any way, you stand up for yourself. If that means you get your ass kicked, you fight back and you take your beating like a man. After the first week of that or so, as long as you never acted like a bitch, no one will ever treat you like one.

The other rule is that you stay with your color. It's cool to make friends with the blacks and the mexicans and the asians, it's even cool to hang with them. Just remember to always make your first and last stops on the yard with your color, and if you see colors gathering, that means race riot, GET TO YOUR CORNER OR YOU WILL BE FUCKED UP.

Are both of these true? After 15 years the crime goes away?
    >> Anonymous 02/17/09(Tue)02:43:01 No.3185193
Friend of mine says it's not so bad as long as you mind your own business. The hardest part probably isn't your surroundings, but just being confined and knowing there's better shit to do somewhere else...and also the fact that you're "in the system" for the rest of your life basically
    >> Anonymous 02/17/09(Tue)02:43:10 No.3185200
    > And what countries could one escape to to avoid going to pound me in the ass prison? I saw a thread with some guy going to jail and it got me thinking.

If you killed a cop or fucked some kids, nothing will save you. If you killed someone who has money, nowhere will be safe, they will probably find you.

If none of those are true, you can pretty much go to any other country and get away as long as you keep a really really low profile and travel, of course, under false identification. The third world is probably the easiest, because it's very cheap and if you have saved up cash you can live there for a very long time on it. Otherwise, go to some first world country and work like an illegal immigrant. Mow lawns, work as a dishwasher, try to meet shady people who can arrange fake papers for you. Think like a Mexican.

    lrn2statuteoflimitations.

    1. The Statute of Limitations varies from crime to crime. There is no SoL on murder, treason, and most sex crimes, meaning no matter when they happened you can later be prosecuted for them.
    2. The Statute of Limitations does not apply to crimes for which you have already been convicted. If you are sentenced to 5 years in prison and you flee the country, that 5 years will be waiting for you (probably plus some escape charges) when you get back.

Fuck that. I'd haul ass to China and get hired teaching English classes by a corporation there. They pay like $40K a year, find/pay for an apartment for you, and give you a weekly food stipend. And all you need is a college degree from the US - they design curriculum for you, and you just follow it. Piss easy. I'd take that for a couple years, save up some money, then go travel for awhile. Rinse, repeat

I've never been to actual prison, but I was in county lockup for 45 days for trying to steal a gumball machine from Salvation Army (I was drunk). I posted about this here before. It wasn't that bad, just boring as hell. I got hassled by a few assholes when I first arrived but nothing you wouldn't encounter at a shitty dive bar, predominantly black high school, etc. No rape or serious beatdowns or anything.

    >Would it be better to do your time or to flee the country?

I dunno, it depends on how much time. I would take up to a decade probably, any longer and I would become a fugitive if possible. But I don't think I will ever fuck up badly enough to get thrown in prison, I quit drinking and I've matured quite a lot.

yeah. if i was a big drug dealer, got my house busted into with the cops finding twenty kilos of twenty different types of drugs, and i knew i was gonna go away for awhile, i'd be the fuck out before they could charge me.

otherwise, you could pull a 25th hour-style escape to anonymity in the midwest, but that's rapidly becoming a lot harder to actually succeed in, i'd think... damn internet age

Not teaching kids, teaching corporate employees that would be around my age.
And being paid 40k a year, virtually tax-free, with a free place to live, plus money for food? That doesn't sound shitty to me. And, it'd be in a major city - a.k.a. Hong Kong.

Yeah, that 25th Hour thing could never work, that was part of the point of the speech, it was just a desperate fantasy. You'd have to go overseas or to some Central American shithole. There have been some fugitives who managed to start a new life within the US, but it was all back in the day and the vast majority eventually got busted.

Yeah. You'd have to be in it for the long haul - ready to spend decades in another country. I like the teaching in China idea for making money, doing that for a year or two - then having enough money to travel the world, not worrying about the U.S. ...
But I wonder if you can be declared an international fugitive by the U.S., like, having your passport invalidated or something... or if they'd do that for someone on the run, who knows...

I spent 3 years in prison.
The answer to most of the rumors is "it depends". A lot of the worse stuff you hear about comes out of maximum security prisons.

Where i was there were levels 1,2,3,4,and 5. 1 being the least secure and 5 being supermax. Even amongst prisons with similar security levels there can be a world of difference in the amount of bad shit that goes down.

I spent most of my time at a medium security facility
I never saw anyone raped as most of the sex that went on was consensual. I did witness a savage beating and extortion was commonplace.

The #1 rule for not getting your shit fucked up was MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Not being a fucking snitch goes hand in hand with this rule
#2 was stick with your own color.

Most of the drama and beating/stabbings happened over someone owing money. If you weren't a dumb fuck and didn't gamble or go to the store man on credit you could avoid 99% of the bullshit that went on.

Prisons usually have a small library. most of it is law books but they buy or have donated a lot of newer or classic fiction. I read the whole lotr trilogy and the silmarillion along with war and peace and the count of monte cristo.

you could also order books and magazine subscriptions form borders or amazon. your family would have to do this however. You could order the books yourself but it would take along time for it to be processed. hilariously 90% of my manga collection was bought while i was in prison i also had a Newtype u.s.a. subscription. and let me tell you $90 a year is fucking expensive when you make $20 a month.

Ha i wish. those jobs paid around $200 a month.
Pretty much all the janitorial work is done by prisoners. That's the job i had for most of my time since they were the easiest job to get. I eventually worked my way up to the kitchen which paid alot more ($40-100 a month). Most of the food prep is done by prisoners. at least in low to medium security facilities.

After that i got moved to a gate pass job doing yard work. Paid less, but i got to be outside the fence and it was gravy work. and believe me you get sick of that damn fence.

My father was in prison for a couple years. He got out early for good behavior. Spent his time doing random hobbies (activities for certificates bs).

He said you were only really safe if you were religious. Which he became. He also said the aryan folks always banged each other. Once someone tried to stab him in the laundry, but he was quick on his feet back then and avoided injury.

For income my mother always sent him money. One of his friends there made photo album frames out of some sort of fabric with peoples names on them for money.
