truth, the era of Saturday morning cartoons started it's decline with
the advent of cable/satellite, video games, and DVD/VHS. Many of what's
left of children's animation are ones only there to fulfill E/I
requirements pursuant to the Children's Television Act. However, even
those programs are not really educational, they either focus on social
skills, or in some cases (Like Disney/ABC) repurpose the shows from
Disney Channel and slap the E/I logo on it, becuase the FCC (The same
folks the fucked up the digital changeover in America) did not defined
what would be actually "educational". Some local broadcasters
replace animated programs with "local" tabloid style news (crime,
scandal ,human-interest), syndicated crap, and off-network reruns. What worse is that FOX has gotten out of the animation business just recently and replace it with infomercials. But
with that development, you have got to think of the children who don't
have cable/satellite, video games, DVDs/VHS, whose only option for
programs their age is PBS. But even PBS is unreliable as they often
show pledge specials even on weekends. As for One Saturday
Morning, it's been dead years ago and was replaced with ABC Kids.
What's worse is that many of these shows on One Saturday Morning are
still not on DVD yet...and possibly never will.
