TV shows are made to make money, not to be art appreciated for the ages. The target audience is key when making a show, because if they aren't interested, it'll make no money. In America, the target audience is children. In Japan, the target audience is STILL children, but they must also cater to older anime "connoisseurs" (pic related). In Japan, normal people with taste understand this, but it seems to be lost on foreign otaku (maybe because they're no different from the pathetic otaku in Japan?).

I watched it when I was a kid, but now I find it pretty boring and corny. When I first started wasting my life on 4chan I tried to watch more, just because anime discussion/references were so prevalent here at the time, but I couldn't get back into it.

The only one I've really enjoyed in the past few years is FLCL. I still like Akira but that's mostly childhood nostalgia. I also enjoyed parts of Welcome to the NHK, mainly because I related to the hikki protagonist at the time, but found it ultimately unsatisfying.

I don't look down on anime fans though, that's fucking gay. They don't need to "grow up", I know plenty of mature and capable individuals who enjoy the form. It's just not my thing. I don't like Western cartoons either, I prefer movies for entertainment.

You are pretty much saying that it is easier to look at a minimalist painting and say "I hate all paintings", than "I hate minimalist art".
