Watch your backs right now when downloading shit owned by these faggots... apparently they're EXTREMELY butthurt with the way the Pirate Bay trial is going (ie, they're gonna lose while Sweden & TPB founders just laugh in their face) so they're turning more to individual ISP's and whatnot. After years of torrenting I just received my first DMCA warning over a fucking TV show... ONE tv show, not even the HD mkv rip, lol, a fucking 350 mb .avi. *sigh*

Why is it retarded to sell a product? Just because you can stream it doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it.

I can watch all the free television I want by spending my day hanging out in a waiting lounge at a hotel or a hospital, it doesn't mean I shouldn't buy a television.

it's the price you pay for convenience man. 99 cents shouldn't break the bank.

I guess 'John Kennedy' has never heard of a little thing called THE RADIO before...

"""One of the most difficult tasks for companies that sell copyrighted music, movies, or computer software is estimating how much money they lose due to piracy. So they have been known to--how to put this delicately?--exaggerate.

That's the topic that The Pirate Bay trial in Stockholm explored on Wednesday when John Kennedy, the chief executive of the International Federation of Phonographic Industries, testified that every MP3 file that is swapped online represents a lost sale. The IFPI is the Recording Industry Association of America's international affiliate.

Kennedy answered "Yes" to Pirate Bay defense attorneys when asked whether that was true, to peals of laughter from less-than-sympathetic spectators, according to news reports.

Pirate Bay attorney Jonas Nilsson pressed him on whether or not the group had done an analysis of copyright infringement and lost revenue for specific songs (it hadn't). """

lol these fuckers are getting their asses handed to em... for such a huge trial you'd think they would have at least learned the technology and proper terminologies first, they've already dropped over half the charges due to their own ignorance.

do you guys know how much money it costs to produce an episode of a show?

That's why they have commercials, to recover the cost of producing it and hoping that they will earn money.

I was doing onset work and post work on tv show for amizon, not sure if they aired it or what. But it ended up costing roughly 70,000 for one episode. and thats cheep. We had roughly 15 guys on set, where Don Was interviewed musicians for about an hour or two. nothing special, no special effects. It's the equipment that costs so much, you need 3-4 cameras rolling at the same time, then you have to pay some one to digitize it, then you have to pay some one to edit it. It's alot of work.

Also for my bloody valentine comercials where they filmed a real audience watching the show they had to bring in the fire marshalls for the flames / explosives they wanted to do. then they had alot of post work, ended up costing 250k just to shoot footage to be used for the trailer / tv spots. then you have to pay the trailer company to edit and make it look nice.

so that would be why you have lots of commercials, and thats why they get mad at you for d/l the shows.

now i just d/l the latest episode of bsg because i couldnt see it, and they didn't upload it on their website. So i mean i understand, but being all like FUK THEM, I AIN PAYING SHIT, just makes it so they produce shittier shows. i mean if they arent getting add revenue why spend 1 mil+ an episode, its not worth it.

    stop acting like dicks

Yes, you are not causing a loss of sales, but you are lowering the potential revenue generated by producing a show.

Instead of watching T.V. you torrent the episodes while it is airing, the show gets lower ratings, the show generates less ad revenue because why would companies want to pay lots of money for spots that air durring a show that no one watches.

Just understand by torrenting you are causing them a loss of potential revenue. It's not the same as stealing, there is no phsyical loss.

its not the cost of actors that makes the shows budget so high, its the equipment. Sure they get paid a lot to act, but it costs alot to light and film. Along with paying money to film places, want to film a restaurants scene? you have to pay the restaurants shit ton of money, like how much they would make that day + some extra. Then you have to pay the post guys, who have to have a fiber line or two, lots of servers to store all the raw footage. high def i think is 60 mb per frame uncompressed. tv shows run at 30 fps, then you have news casts that runs at around 60 fps. Then again for each show you have 3-4 cameras rolling. Its a lot of space, and a lot of equipment. Then you have either have final cut, or pay a shit ton for an avid system. It's about 10k a year for an avid license. you have 4-5 editing machines running, thats like 50k just for editing software a year. Thats why so many places are switching over to macs for final cut.

Incorrect sir. As long as there are channels the distribution companies (your cable/satellite providers) will bundle them together to ensure *someone* is getting all those less popular channels.

I agree with this guy. I pirate everything I watch, I don't even have cable. but it's not like I pretend what I'm doing isn't wrong. The only reason I'm able to do what I do is because other people are paying for or watching commercials for the same things I'm getting for free. I'm an ass for it but whatever.

PROTIP: there are providers with free test accounts
you just make a new fake account all 3 days, there are tools which do this for you

Well I currently pay for a rapdishare account because it's much faster than torrenting and more convenient. If usenet offers something similar I might check it out. I've never quite understood how to use it though.
