01/27/09(Tue)19:39:22 No. 2933294 Uh, you're missing the key ingredient. The missing piece, OP, is: BECAUSE OF DRUGS And other illegal activities, too. But mostly, because of drugs. First
of all, if you've been in crap schools all your life and you spel and
tak all ghetto, the working world may not be too desirous to you. So,
you can work as an auto mechanic or a fast fry cook, legitimately. Yay!
Welcome to riding the bus to work every day for the rest of your life,
and being looked down on by everybody. OR, you could sell drugs, and
have a nice car, have rims (not a big deal) for the purpose of
attracting not one but multiple girlfriends (a fairly big deal), etc. Why
join a gang for that? Because large amounts of money are changing hands
in this business, large amounts of money attract predators, so somebody
has to work security. In fact, the sales people usually have to do
double-duty as security, too. So, the guns. Also, in a business like
this, you need a hierarchical structure to control the cash efficiently
and make decisions, so its gangs part II. The clothes and signs and
whatnot are just the frills, the real point is making money in an
organized manner. Look up Venkatash, a Chicago sociologist, and his
recent published book Gang Leader for a Day. There's your explanation.
