Thanks. We learn English in school but not nearly enough to type in it as well as I do. I spend most of my spare time in the internet on english speaking forums. People used to get mad at me and point out my spelling and grammar errors but over the years this actually helped me improve.

You can have a job and still be lazy. This is actually even worse because the person's laziness effects other people. To give an example, yesterday I was waiting in line and the cashier was texting on her phone more than she was paying attention to the customers, making every transaction take 3 times as long as it should have. This is not uncommon here.

People like this often do not get fired because business is family owned or the employer knows that whoever replaces them will also likely be just as lazy.

I think that foreigners have the mental image of Russia from what the state of it was like in the 90's after the USSR collapsed. Considering, that was only around 20 years ago, things have improved a lot. Your chances of being murdered are not higher than in most other countries. I think we have a high rate of murder, but this is because mainly of the organised crime. You as a tourist will be fine.

As with all countries and cities there is safe places and dangerous places. You really should not worry about being physically harmed. In many ways Russia has a lot more freedom socially. This is good and bad. Sometimes you will see raw, unchecked humanity, and sometimes you may not enjoy this.

If you visited Russia, and went outside of Moscow and Petersburg (our most Western cities which have a lot of tourists), like if you came to Siberia, your main problem will be the language. If you do not speak Russian and want to explore far afield, you will need a tour guide. But really, most people are nice and will help you as much as they are able.

I don't know, Russia is so big it is difficult to describe it briefly. But don't have the idea of certain murder. Just be wise, and yes you could get scammed by a taxist or something, but not if you're smart. It really depends on what you are wanting to do and where you would go. Don't let the police bully you and you are best not to drive on our roads. Never enter a political argument.

I have met tourists (mostly in Moscow) who have had great times and some who have bad times because of the culture shock. Most of them have had great times.
