Lots of people using IRC have bouncers (they don't logg into irc itself but the bouncer, which stays online 24/7), or just have it running and check from time to time if something interesting came up. Not really compatible with people that suffer from severe ADD, I'm sorry (I'm not).

I can't seem to forward the ports so my router is blocking irc out.
