See if you can find some hippie den to stay at on craigslist if the prospect of sharing a house like that for a while doesn't turn you off completely. Otherwise a hostel could be okay, while you try to find a more permanent residence if that's what you're after.

cheapness is the most important, im poor as potatoes.
it has to be close to where i work too. nothing out on the boonies.
classiness is the least of my worries. i'll probably be too sad to bathe.

try to find a room that someone will rent out. I just moved to WI and was surprised at the number of people who advertise this in the paper
