Actually, now that I think about, Poland would have been a much better Jewish state than Israel. The locals were used to being surrounded by Jews all the time, compared to the Palestinians who had seen damn near none since the Romans came along.

Looking back, the entire idea was insane. In 1947, it had been 8 years since Poland stopped being a center of Judaism. It had been almost 2,000 years since Palestine last supported a large Jewish population.

The real reason why there is a problem is because The british didnt only promise land to the arabs, but also the jews at the same time. The British were trying to make everyone happy so that more terrorist acts didnt happen from both camps but in the end it had to fail. Isreal is a great example of the legacy of the British empire, sure they did modernize many things, but they also pitted various cultures against each other which has created big problems when they let go of their control
