I'm currently 26 now and still have a ways to go for personal growth (More so financially then emotionally), but I do want a child. I think I would be a great father myself since my mother raised me as a single parent since my dad died when I was still really young. Everyday with them is a new adventure and they are both completely different from each other and need to be raised differently. I want kids too, OP. I'm 21 though so not for at least a few years. I really look forward to teaching them about the world and being honest to them in all aspects of life. Kids love me. When family members or friends get together with me, the kids end up spending as much time as possible with me. I like to entertain, to protect, to teach. Adoption is difficult for similar reasons. My best bet appear to be shaping up to be me waiting around until some used up woman notices that I'm good with kids so she stays with me just to have someone raise them. I'm in the same situation where I would want to adopt. Marriage isn't something I have strong opinions about either way, but I would like to adopt anyway just because there's enough people in the world already that I don't need to create another.

Some tips I've learned from the Internet about adoption:
If you're willing to adopt a non-white child, especially a black male, your chances for being approved go up. White girls have the most demand.
If you're willing to adopt an older child or a child with a disability your chances also increase.
Be willing to take an opportunity when it arises. If a friend's teenage daughter gets pregnant, for example, and they want to give it up for adoption. You might have to do an open adoption, but pre-arranged adoptions like that go much smoother than going through an agency.

Well, OP, I happen to be a father of one at just 20 years old. He's living with his mother in Norway specifically because I had the same fears as you.

Now, I can look after babies and kids perfectly well. I've been a baby-sitter for friends all my life, but I am in no way a suitable role model for a child. If I were to raise him directly, it would negatively affect him for the rest of his life.

If you are considering adoption, I think you should look at yourself thoroughly. Imagine a child of 8, with all your personality flaws, combined with low social inhibitions. Would the kid be a decent student, friend and child? If not, reconsider.

It's rough, but if you see yourself as a failure, why bring a child into the world, only to follow in your footsteps?
