    Hello robots.

As a young boy, how did you feel about reading? Did you like reading in school? Did school destroy your love for reading? Did school help you become a lifelong reader? Was the book lists at your school awesome or lame?

Do you read at all as an adult? Casually?

I for one hate reading books.

I remember having the instruction manual for Super Mario World in kindergarten. I liked "reading" it. It was taken away from me by the teacher. I don't remember why, but she never gave it back.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)15:06:29 No.2490878
She lost her manual for Super Mario World. You got jipped by authority.

Anyways, I only enjoy reading instruction manuals, dictionaries, and other informative things.. I read Battle Royale, the novel, that was enjoyable.

It's strange because that was probably the first time in my life I got so absorbed in a book, I think I finished it in 3 days. Fuck school for making me not like books, by reading shit the teacher wants, and nothing really interesting.

If anyone has ever read Ticket To Curlew, fuuuuuuck it's a terrible book.

I liked reading, in part because they had good books in kindergarden and grade school to read.

You want a kid to read, you give him "The Hobbit", not "Silas Mariner".

I hate reading as well, but it's only because every book I read reminds me of dumb blondes. Yes, they are retarded.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)15:13:21 No.2490944
I was a reader, but college has really cut into my reading time.

Goosebumps were the shit, but we weren't allowed to have them in my school because some kid got scared by the covers. Nowadays, I read random shit.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)15:15:26 No.2490961
school and "grownups" made me hate reading by making it a chore and something i HAD to do. today I try to make up but I really haven't built the habit all these years so it's not that easy. it makes me sleepy if i read in bed, though it's the perfect activity while travelling. I've read more books in one year where i had to take the bus every day than in all my life.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)15:26:39 No.2491032
All the shit we read in school sucks ass.
Oh yeah, Romeo and Juliet was important and revolutionary FOUR-HUNDRED FUCKING YEARS AGO. Plus, its a fucking play, same thing goes for The Crucible, especially if you're reading it without any McCarthyist background knowledge. Catcher in the Rye? Yeah, it was a great satire of 1950s youth, BUT ITS THE TWENTY-FIRST FUCKING CENTURY. Holocaust Novels? It sucks for Anne Frank, but her diary is not something you read in English, do it in history for fuck's sake. Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer were boring as shit.

The only novels I really liked through my schooling were Alas, Babylon and The Great Gatsby (Only because of the Jazz-Era setting)

I despised books as a kid, school just made it worse.

Now I'm kind of a bookworm, thankfuly.

FUCK YEAR I read a a kid, pic related.

Not so much as an adult, I've been taken over by more visually + aurally stimulating mediums (see: video games, movies)

Seriously, what would you rather do than reading books?
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)15:45:27 No.2491165
I've never been really into reading books. I didn't learn to read until at school, but I picked it up fast. My mother tried to teach me before that but she's horrible at teaching.

I was happy about learning to read, though. Not because I wanted to be able to read books, but because I wanted to be able to read the subtitles in movies. (I'm Finnish, they only dub selected few cartoons here). I still remember watching a movie and having to pause all the time, because I couldn't read fast enough at firs. Strangely, I've never learned to read fast. I stll occasionally have to pause to read subtitles (if the soeech is other than English or Finnish, of course). This is also partly why I don't like reading books. It takes so long for me, because I'm very slow at it.

I fucking loved reading, still do. I read 1984 and The Catcher in the Rye when I was 12. Read all these fantasy books when I was in grade school. Fuck yeah reading!

I hate reading and writing, it requires too much attention and lacks audiovisual stimulation.

If you think about it, in modern times, having to manually scan your eyes across a page over and over seems very old-fashioned. Someone should invent a way to be able to input these blocks of text into your brain without having to spend hours scanning them with your eyes.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)16:19:15 No.2491466
I never read fiction. I'd rather play a video game or watch a movie, clearly superior forms of entertainment, with the same knowledge gain.

The first books I read voluntarily were the Lord of the Rings in 4th grade. Looking back, I probably couldn't comprehend most of it. The only other book I read voluntarily before I was 18 was Watchmen when I was 14

I loved reading in elementary school. In 5th grade all I would ever do was read books. I never did my homework because I was too busy reading. Eventually my parents had a meeting with my teacher and the rule became "no reading until after all your homework is done".

I now seldom read outside of school.

1984, The Hobbit, LoTR back when i was in Primary school.

Read a lot of Pratchett, Feist, that sort of thing up until interwebz in my bedroom, and ever since i've got very little reading done.
I really should read more, all the internet does is make me rage, and provide short term entertainment...
