So which students do you dislike the most?

Me, personally, I hate psychology students. They're all elitist pricks trying to come off as intelligent and understanding.

Oh, and they all suffer from Jesus complexes. Thinking they're gonna save the world blah blah blah blah (they only do it for the prestige and money).

Artfags. They're just completely incompatible with me.

If I see a painting of a river at a sunset, I interpret that to be a painting.. of a river.. at a sunset.
When they see the same painting, they always decide that it's a metaphor for the inhumanity of mankind, or that we need to go back to nature, or how sad life is, or shit like that.

I see things the way they are. I don't think about, nor care about, what the "deeper meaning" is.

While you try vainly to express your limited conception of what art means to you in your subjective little microcosm of influences, historians will be busy redefining, reinterpreting and fundamentally reshaping the whole of art history within broader, fundamentally more meaningful, contexts. Your trite little works and their temporal meanings are nothing more than fodder for the historical machine; you will be digested, contextualized, deconstructed and reformed within larger themes and bodies of thought whether you consent to it or not.

You are nothing more than plebeian speck in the vast swirling current of culture which the noble historian, aided in part by his Sancho Panza the Sociologist, ultimately tames.

When I saw him year and a half later he was full of shit; using some bullshit lawyer rethoric to prove obviously incorrect statements (specifically he said that my hometown has higher crime-rate than the place where he lives now). Every time I tried to explain how there's news about murders and stuff in his town almost every week, and how nothing serious had happened in my town for a year or so he would claim my argument invalid and demand statistics. I hate art majors, because quite frequently, they're stuck up pretentious hipsters who smoke clove cigarettes and hang out at the local venues to take 'meaningful' photographs for their portfolios.
I'm an art major, however i'm also double majoring in engineering because i'm going for industrial design.

The worst part about an art school is that you have rampant photography students who believe they're hot shit because they just got published in some no name magazine. Same thing with the Contemporary(Modern)art majors. Who cares if you can collage 10 different mixed medias, do something worth while and work on your technical skill. I swear to god, most of the non-traditional art majors are here because they had done poorly in highschool, or just don't care about academics.

    Art Majors, the worst.

Science is what has helped us advance and thrive, while art helps us see the beauty in everything.

I hate math/pc guys that act like they are god, but suck at everything except for maths and computer stuff. And i hate how they bitch about everything they suck at because they are aspies and auti's.

I hate art majors who bitch about how they see things like nobody else possibly could or when they have the slightest thought about depicting something in an abstract way it is instant brilliance.

I hate psychology students that think they have had so much experience with their own problems they can solve everything.

I hate science majors who bitch about every class not directly related to their prefered. field.

I hate history majors for not having a real purpose.

I hate biology majors who dont want to explore the actual possibilities of their field but just want to fuck animals or become doctors cause mommy and daddy want them to be.

I hate economy students because they are often spoiled pieces of shit or bullied guys who failed at everything else. Their field also sucks balls and is based on quantity.

And most of all i hate the excentric, spontaneuous, 'look at me i'm in college im 100% self confident, totally open minded and able to take care of myself' while they still get money from mommy and cry on the phone about how hard their study is.

You may not have considered this, but atleast I personally see art as a form of entertainment. And the art's value is proportional to how much it can entertain me.

Is entertainment useful to society? Yes.

So I like, for example, pictures that Salvador Dali made. The reason is simply because it challenges you. You may see a woman lying with her arm over her head, but if you look closely, it also resembles a horse. This element of "discovery" he incorporated in his images is why I like it, because it is downright entertaining.

philosophy students do better on average on law school exams than pre-law/polisci students, do close to the best (if not the best) on the GRE and only score marginally lower than field specific majors for field specific (science) grad exams.

As far as further education, unless it's science specific then a philosophy major is a boon.

Trying to get a job with a philosophy masters/PhD in a field outside of teaching is another matter entirely.

Though you may only give a piece of art a fleeting glance, it can also be an important expression of something during the time of the artists life. It can serve as a reference point for anyone undergoing a similar experience or sharing a similar sentiment, whether they are alive when the painting is completed or are born generations later.

There's a reason why we continue to look back on famous art, some ancient, when considering the human condition.
