ITT: We review "Real Life" or "Reality".

At first I was hesitant about the fact there was no save/load feature, but I've come to enjoy it, I find it adds a real depth to the decisions I've been making. Character customisation could use a bit of work, but I guess part of the involvement is learning to work with what you have. The variety of places and items and NPCs is fantastic though, all voiced by different people which is good too, I'm so sick of hearing seven different characters with the same voice. Levelling up could be a bit more defined too, it's hard to tell which areas need more progress, or how far I have left until I max out. Haven't really reached any combat yet, can someone tell me what that's like?

    Overall: 4/5.

Pic related; first result for "real-life" also lulz at the kid being pulled away by his mother.

My character rolled this great ability called "Make great trance music".

He gets to fuck all kinds of JB. Overall, this game gets a 3/5 (the heroin item is a trap)

STDs are BOP. Working as intended?

I rolled an Asian male. Unfortunately, they are low tier in attracting women. I can't say I envy them Arabs.

It has a few bad design flaws. Can't choose your race or your starting stats, and you're the strongest at around level 18-30, then kinda plateau off for a while. Then, your character actually starts losing STR and DEX at 40, and then INT at 50-60. Kinda sucks, man.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/08(Wed)21:59:15 No.2474421
Real Life is God-Arts worst game yet. Most of it is slow and monotonous, hell, you can barely even move your character around for the first few stages. All you do is sit there. And the "Get Laid" quest is fucking bullshit. The system's all broken, you either have to have all your stats maxed out, find the Alcohol item (which sucks because you CAN'T EVEN BUY IT AT THIS STAGE OF THE GAME), or be born into the rich class (only happens like 1% of the time at the start of each new game, good luck on that one). And the School Quest is also the shittiest quest ever created. It takes up about a quarter of the game (if you're lucky) and you have to go through all this random garbage just to get to the meat of the game, which isn't even all that great either (again, unless you're in the lucky 1% that get born into the Rich Class). And what is the deal with no save feature?! With a game this long, you really need a way to save your progress, and God-Arts (a name synonymous with failure these days, it seems) fails to deliver yet again. If there is one plus about this game, it's the music. You may have to dig through a lot of shit, but there is a lot of good music to be had in this game.

    2/10

Seriously disturbed by the lack of expansion packs. So what, a few douches let their characters run wild and completely fuck up the few in-game areas we have access to, and that's it? Yeah, I know there are other worlds we MIGHT get access to if we pour enough stat points into the space program modules, but fuck that. No character or guild to date has been able to do it, and by now I really doubt they ever will. Fuck that.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/08(Wed)22:02:01 No.2474445
Autorun sucks because it just stops after a little while and your character has to rest. Targeting system isn't very intuitive. My avatar isn't quite as sexy as it is on other games. Driving levels are pretty fun though.

Dude, "Get Laid" isn't all that hard. You just need to take down a few orcs, and voila, their done. Sure, you won't get nearly as much experience, but there are more of them so it's kind of a tradeoff.

What the fuck is up with the work "minigame"? No matter what career path you pick, it ends up consuming a large majority of your in-game time. Anyone found a workaround for this? (And don't tell me to try the "sell drugs" minigame instead. My character doesn't nearly have enough CHA to get away with that.)

It's tough at first, but you get used to it. No reroll, but that's what makes the challenge. You'd want to try to get a good, well rounded party first, preferably with a healer for when times get tough. Wandering solo is difficult, but racking up the concentrated XP is somewhat rewarding. Increase your STR early on, or else you'd miss out on a lot of quests on your early levels (you can make this up later on though.) Boss levels are tricky, but fun when beaten. My main character had a bad roll, above avg INT, low str (made up mid game), bad stamina and luck though. Still, this made the game tons more challenging and I enjoyed it. So far, I can't wait to pass the dungeons you raid during levels 18-22, seems pretty tedious with useless grinding and tons of distractions. Oh yeah, don't spend your time grinding on /r9k/, it gives little EXp and actually lowers your stats.

Eh, it's one long grindfest. It literally took me 12 years to level up to enough intelligence to unlock the "college" quest (which is also a bullshit grindfest, but I need it to unlock the "career" quest which I need to get the "move out of home" achievement). Plus, I take extra damage from food, so I have to grind really hard to keep my "weight" stats low. On the plus side, I rolled 2 6s on "height" so that's pretty cool. Graphics are good, epic anti-aliasing, framerate, sound, etc. It could use some more developer work (especially balance, some teams are way less balanced than others). Oh yeah, and I hate this new "economic crisis" environment, stupid developers should hurry up and release a patch for it.

Overall, 3/5 - the engine and graphics environment has great potential but the gameplay is rubbish.

Seeing people fucking playerkill the shit out of people with AKs in a shopping mall is fucking HILARIOUS. Not if you can't find a hiding place though.

Soundtrack is fucking sweet. So much variety and you can pick what you want.
Graphics are awesome but when the game goes into Winter mode everything looks grey and dull as shit.
The mini games like sports and shit are gay as hell and need to be nerfed. Goddamn, not only can you ONLY play them if your character rolls the right shit, but if you get lucky enough to do that it ups the motherfucker's stats like crazy and even makes the "Get Laid" quest easy.

Also what the fuck is up with all the SUPER famous people in this game, seriously do they have no lives that they are the most known players in the world?
    >> Anonymous 12/17/08(Wed)22:16:22 No.2474616
The GUI is pretty unintuitive, you're unable to really gauge the damage you've taken very easily. In fact, there are some hidden status effects that don't make themselves known until your HP is down in the red (which can also be very difficult to see, seriously!), often without cures. The self-healing items are also pretty lame, and the requirement of a healer class really slows the game down as they can be hard to woo into a party.

overall 5/10, you really can't ignore the effort put into the graphics but it doesn't make up for the unintuitive gameplay

It's unique in that it's built on multiple proprietary engines. One's called "general relativity", works pretty well, but the "quantum physics" engine is riddled with bugs that keep causing it to put out nonsense data. They had a couple patches come out, but players probably won't be satisfied until the big LHC patch. I may just play something else until "Reality 2" or a similar big MMO comes along.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/08(Wed)22:26:20 No.2474720
Real life sucks. Apparently "years" and levels are the same thing, except your character doesnt progress as much as you'd hope by aquiring these years. In fact a lvl 60 blue collar slave is generally weaker than a lvl 18 worker drone! The entire game is designed around endless grinding. You spend the first 18 levels or so grinding to boost your INT xp, which unless your character rolls a base stat of +1 rich parents, wont pay off anyway. Then you spend the next 50 or so levels grinding away to improve your MON$ xp, which is spent in buying useless accoutrements for your character, which require replacing every couple levels for the same basic items. Finally the last 20 or so levels, rather than being superpowered your character sucks ass and can do nothing but mooch MON$ xp off the lower leveled characters. PVP is also radically unbalanced, so bad im not even going to go into it. Also the only quests available are lame ass "retrieve item X from area Y", X usually being "food", and Y being "grocery"
Despite its many, MANY flaws, I must applaud the graphics designers, they are top notch. Pity it was wasted on such an incredibly poor game design.
    Overall I rate real life a 3/10

What really pisses me off about this game is that you do not get to design your own character, you are handed one, so basically your entire gaming experience is a matter of luck, which sort of defeats the vicious competing that still goes on in some zones.

There are however cheats that can boost your charisma, strength, endurance and focus considerably, the most effective being cocaine and methamphetamine. Reckless use of these will be punished with 'fiending' which dramatically lowers all your stats and your main objective will now be to obtain even more meth or cocaine; A downward spiral has begun.

For how essential the sex mini-game is to healthy functioning of your character it is way too difficult to access. I'd say either lower its importance or make it easier in the next patch.

    9/10 otherwise though.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/08(Wed)22:49:15 No.2474982
Like people have said, the graphics are awesome and the amount variety throughout the game, be it maps, characters, whatever - is mindblowing.
However, you can't help but feel they went way overboard on the monotonous side of it. I'm sure they wanted to appeal to an older audience by doing this, so the game wasn't just made up entirely of mini-games, but actually had some challenges. There needs to be a happy medium, however, and the developers failed to find it. They seem to have almost entirely separated the fun parts of the game from the challenging parts, giving little motivation for the player to attempt to unlock new items and earn new skills.
Not that the "fun" parts of the game are without good ideas. The Drug items, for example, are a great idea and have been implemented into the game to great effect. The Sex challenges throughout the game are also well done, but again, tend to be take so much effort to complete that it hardly seems worth it.
All in all, a potentially great game that is severely flawed. However, with talk of a Real Life 2 next winter, one would hope the developers will learn from their mistakes and take the time to add in much needed bonuses, such as abilities to fly, and a Save/Load option, and focus less on the "Work" side.

This fine gentleman said it very well.

Everything depends on 3 core stats; IQ, Charisma, Appearance. I have found my gaming experience to be severely lacking in a lot of aspects due to having poor IQ and Appearance stats, this disables me from a huge, main part of the game; Education.

I have since learned to rely on my very high charisma and picked up and cultivated the paranoia stat, and I have now become a very powerful character in terms of gold and alliances.

If you have the same stat setup as me I highly recommend that you give the 'Drug' profession a try, it can be very rewarding if you know how to play.

Sometimes I wish there would be a sequel that could fix all the glitches that allow ghetto people of all skin color to run rampant. Also, less pretentious douchebags would be cool. Another great feature that could have used some improvement was character interaction. Its a lot easier to level up and find cool things when the hot girls actually talk to you because your personality rather than your strength is maxed out. It would be cool if the Berserkers didnt always try to fight you. I figure Intelligence might be able to solve those problems easier than being forced into a fight and trying to run away. One last thing. Party unity and guilds are seveerely lacking in any kind of usefulness. if all of your members are constantly at odds with each other and the rest of the worlds, theres not much point to them joining your party in the first place. theres gotta be an easier way besides death to get them out of the party easily.

    i give Reality a 7 outta 10.

Top notch graphics, although I get this weird glitch where everything looks blurry, and sometimes like a thin layer of static is over it. Oh well. One of the best physics engines to date. Blows that your character is randomly picked, I got 7/10 IQ, 6/10 Appearance, and 4/10 Charisma, which is pretty good, considering what other people have been getting here. Also rolled some good skills in the creative class, Art and Writing. It's hard, but I think I'm doing pretty well, even in the very hard sex minigame, which I've beaten a few times. My biggest complaint is all the god damn grinding, but I've gotten over it. Plus, my art and writing skills make it more tolerable. Overall, I give it a 6.5/10. They really need a fucking save game feature, though, and it sucks that when your character dies, you can't play again. Thank god the game isn't totally based around combat.

I mean come on, my race is randomly chosen (lol races, its one race with a bunch of different skin tones, wheres the orcs and elves?) as well as my maximum potential. Not to mention the job stress to money gained ratio is blown for 90% of the game. I choked my way through the mini game they called Grade School, not even sure why they force you to push through that. Everytime I tried to lash out against the game, the fucking police put my on lockdown. Sand box game my ass, its just a facade. I finally got out of grade school and tried to do college, but the grade school's level of difficulty is no where comparable to college, so I decided to join the PVP server instead. My shitty ass sim still lives with his parents in there nice house and has a shitty job with no future. He likes college, but life is so distracting. Being a pimp is his side job.

Not to mention they get completely unpredictable bloodlust buffs from their class type. Shit is fucking annoying. Even assuming that there's no town guards around, the fuckers always get really strong about halfway through a fight, atleast at low levels. Shit rules the lower tier school quests. Fortunately when you start to collect a few epics and get some good money, they've already plateaued with respect to potential.

The game has some serious ups and downs. The graphics are amazing and always run at least 30FPS. The music is great if you know where to look. Normal avenues such as the in-game radio produce pure crap, but if you do the repeatable pirating quest, you can get some great tunes. Just be careful not to do the quest too often or you could spawn the partyvan (is that a bug?).

Character creation is flawed. Without being able to choose stats, beginning race, or physical parameters there seems to be something left out. Fortunately I rolled high on my height, INT, and STR stats. Too bad I didn't roll the rich class. That would have been fun.

The questing system seems really arbitrary. Why the hell should I care if I complete the school quests just to start on the career grindfest?

Lots of tweaks need to be made, but I think the game has potential if they developers removed the grindfest, added selectable stats and character customization. The image designer system (like the one in SWG) costs far too much in this game.

I envy the earlier players that got to play the medieval or classical beta versions of the game.

It's not too bad but there are a lot of weird cults and a strange pervasive obsession with Asian societies.
