So fucking true. In high school, a guy I sorta kinda knew started dating a girl I've known since late elementary school. I was at an arcade when I was younger. I was playing that one big-screen Star Wars game, with the fucked up inverted controls, where you can light saber duel against Darth Vader, shoot up storm troopers, and get into dog fights with tie fighters. About 10 years ago my dad was principal of a middle school and everything was fine for a few years until he was fired for no reason. I was young at the time and didn't really understand it or ever hear the whole story until much later but it turned out that the school board (all black people) didn't like Jews and since my dad is a Jew, they fired him. I guess the people who hired him either didn't realize he was Jewish, or the school board members changed over the years. Anyway, my dad ended up filing a discrimination suit against the district and won some cash. He left the district however and got a higher paying position in another township.

On my side, I've had a few different black people steal from me in high school. Most notably, I had my trumpet taken from my school locker by someone I considered a friend. He didn't keep it, he borrowed it without asking a bunch of times and I eventually figured it out when he accidentally used the wrong combination lock on my little cage thing and I couldn't get it open and figured out what had been going on. I guess I should have been tipped off when the stuff in the case was askew a few times, but it didn't register until the pieces all came together. Later we found out this kid was running an iPod theft ring and he got caught at that and many other more minor offenses over his high school career. He didn't thrown out though probably because the principal was also black. But that's just a guess. The school was also ridiculously lenient as they allowed lots of shit to go on constantly but since the school was a 'blue ribbion school of excellence' they didn't want anything publicized too much so they swept rampant drug use and crime under the rug.

So basically, I haven't really trusted black people as a group for a long time now, though I don't consider myself racist; I consider myself colored by my experiences and cautious because of them. And also, the whole black people being loud and obnoxious in public places doesn't really improve their image with me either. It's not all of them of course, but it's enough that it's hard to ignore.

My father is a very reactionary person, with a lot of conservative views. When I was 17 or so, I excommunicated myself from him because of a comment he made about his neighbors, who were openly gay. He said that if they ever knocked on his door, he would blow their brains out. I have not spoken to him since, and have no interest in doing so.

So I'm playing my gameboy color in middle school when some black kid comes to see me play. After about 15 minutes he asks me if he could try and I let him. I get distracted and when I look back he isn't there.

I panic and run around the area I was looking him. The moment I see him I shove him and start demanding that he give me the game back. Just a minute later a teacher gets there to move me. I tell him that he took my game and the stupid kid gives it back.

To make things worse he gives me that gameboy without the game and I start yelling again. He tells us that some other kid has it but we knew it was total bullshit. The teacher doesn't really do anything because he didn't want the race card being pulled.

Later I was just happy to have my gameboy.

I went to a church summer camp when I was really young, like early elementary school. I was a pretty sheltered kid and didn't know anything about racism. Well in came we were putting on a play, and while reading through the script I pictured one of the main roles being played by a black person. No reason in particular, just how I imagined it in my head. Well, it turns out that one of my good friends, a black girl ended up getting the part, and while congratulating her I mentioned how I imagined a black person with the role.

After that it was a shit storm. Suddenly I was the camp racist, everyone was pissed and I had absolutely no idea why. I'd been best friends with a black girl at camp the whole time, and yet everyone ignores that and take one comment some kid that was maybe 7 at the time and considers them a racist.

I understand that there are racist people out there, but it sickens me how sensitive minorities can be. I've heard too many cases in which someone pulls the race card out for no reason at all.

A friend of mine worked at Wal-mart as a cashier. After checking out a family of niggers, he waves and says "You people have a nice day". They flip shit and complain to the managers that he was being racist by calling them "you people." In the end the guy got fired for it.

I grew up in a really white community. No particular reason for it, we lived right by the capital of Canada, but for whatever reason it was only whites that moved that far out into the country. The closest we had to 'ethnic' was a second generation Italian family that had moved a few streets down when I was 5 or so.
So all me, and any of my friends, knew about race we knew from television. So obviously, from Sesame Street and stuff, we knew racism was bad. But like most kids, we figured anything on TV was just stuff that happened in 'magical not-reality land', and that included black people. They existed, just NOT HERE.

In grade six, a black family moved near the school. The boy was in my class, the girl in my younger sister's. I don't know how the girl got treated, but when the boy was introduced to our class, we stared at him for half the morning. He might has well have been a minotaur. Poor kid was probably scared to heck.

I moved to the US from Denmark a few years ago. I know English because it is taught in the schools over there, and you pretty much have to learn it because AMERICANS who come to Europe don't usually speak the language of the country they are visiting. Because of my accent I got asked constantly if I was legal, I got yelled at on several occasions to get out of this country, I was told I was immigrant scum, and I was completely ignored on several occasions because "they couldn't understand me." I speak very clearly. I'm a white female and I never figured on this happening. People who want to be cruel will find a way to be cruel, whether it is based on sex, race, class, or the music you listen to. It's taught me that you can't judge anyone. Ever. I was sitting in this bus traveling to Paris once.
My bus driver was an actual Turk, and he spoke the most broken Dutch I have ever heard.

Every time he spoke through the intercom a few hicks behind me would make fun of him and make racist remarks.

Since I don't look like an immigrant with my golden locks, the comments weren't directed at me.
And even though I do not identify myself with my Turkish heritage, a part of me still felt very angry.

I think the most glaring story for me was a black kid calling a friend of mine "honky, cracker, trailer trash, hill billy cousin fucker, and asshole" Only got him a minor detection. Several racist epithets and severe insults. While when he threw back one "Fuck you black asshole" he was suspended for making a racist comment. His parents changed schools after filing what happened with the board of education and got the staff responsible disciplined harshly.

My personal stories are a little interesting. My 6th grade teacher was responsible for showing us sex ed videos. Though despite us all signing papers we were supposed to watch a general video, then the boys got their own, and the girls got their own. Our teacher was some 2nd wave feminist man hater and kicked all the boys out of the room, never showed us our own video, and showed the girls both gender specific videos.

Oh, and that same teacher would often read books in class instead of teaching us, as well as let several fights start and continue until chairs got involved as weapons.

This was at an affluent suburban elementary school by the way.

I always had racist stories because people never know what race I am. Most people say I look like a really tan asian or a mexican. I only have a few stories that really make me made when I look back on them.

When I was in middle school and I just moved into the south from NY, I had an english teacher that was always stand offish with me. So one day she pulled me aside one day and started talking to me about my grades and she said "I know you just came to America and you don't speak much english but that doesn't excuse you from making bad grades." I was so hurt as a little stupid middle schooler I just ran off and cried but that fucking cunt knew I just moved from New York and I spoke perfect english. I once lived in Elizabethtown, KY. It's very close to Fort Knox. This was only during the period between 1995-98. My family never knew this at the time we moved there (father was still in the military) but all civilians in E-town were prejudiced against those that had any involvement with the base because Army brats were considered to be lower than white trash, and future trained killers. Those that worked in Fort Knox but didn't want to live there rented houses in E-town, and doing so made my family hated. I remember one neighbor coming over to bring us a pie as Southern hospitality custom dictates, but as soon as I revealed that we were renting the house, she scoffed "Well, I hope you enjoy the pie. Good day." and the neighbor storms off. Never spoke to us again. Renting property might have been seen as bringing down the economy and way of life in E-town.

Also, my peers took the years I lived there up until the point I moved away to warm up to me, because when I told them I had just moved there from Germany, they all supposedly went home to their parents, told them about me, and they come running back accusing me of being too friendly with Nazis or former Nazis. I did get the same accusation again in high school (I now live in CA) when I did a life timeline for a project in a Spanish class. I was surprised to have that happen to me after so many years of living far away from the South.

I assume its the area, but most of what I see is pretty level. Racism is very little, feminism moreso. But working retail I meet lots of people. Mexicans, Blacks, Asians, women, men, transgendered, etc. I just treat all to a genuine smile and I've never noticed a problem. I try to see everyone with a blank slate.
