what i have found in my lifetime is that having a significant other means nothing if it is the wrong person. i learned that after dating everyone i saw, when i finally gave up and stopped looking, i found my husband.

why op, that's an excellent question.

first off, the real reason you are born is to have babies and push humanity forward. sorry if i broke a pretty picture of the world for you, but that's how life works. if people weren't programmed to have babies, there wouldn't be any babies and humanity wouldn't exist, so suck it.

second, culture pushes romance related shit on us. there's entire movies made to depict this, there's no shunning of showing affection in public, and there's a lot of media buzz about it. love is not a very strong word because it gets used a lot. kind of a spiral.

third point comes in two parts:
1) feelings are highly addictive. i don't know the intricate parts of it, but chemicals that are released when you feel strong feelings are of the most addictive kind.
2) you can't replicate love. you'll notice that some feelings 'feel' the same way. i don't have any good example in mind, but i'm sure you can relate to it. with training, you can turn feelings of one kind into feelings of another, based on proximity. willpower!

With that said, I've somehow gotten over my roneriness, and now I just don't care. I was holding a crush on some chick for a couple years, then finally figured out that she would never love me. So, I sent her a note detailing everything I thought about her, with a small apology at the end. The point was to creep her the fuck out, and thus make me absolutely sure that I had no chance whatsoever with her.

It worked. Now, I don't really think much about her anymore, and certainly less as time goes on. I'm perfectly satisfied being single, and have no reason to whine.

I used to be the same way. Then, I got over it, after endless amounts of listening to friends bitch about their significant others and hearing about all the drama involved. I have no interest in that. I want something simple - I love her, she loves me, we're perfectly honest and faithful, and we love each other's imperfections. That's it. If there's way more involved like there seemingly always is, then I'm not interested. Every one of my friends who had gone through one which ultimately failed (however long it took) said it was overrated, and that the best times of it were probably not worth the worst times.

If a clean, simple relationship like that doesn't exist, then I'm just not interested.

I think the type of woman I'm looking for is someone you can comfortably share a silence with, someone you can be perfectly confident about how they feel about you. Evidently, that type of woman doesn't exist, maybe just in my age group (I'm 20).

Until that kind of woman comes around, I don't have any desire to find a girlfriend.
