Here's my question, r9k - there's a huge shitstorm over this guy supposedly 'selling' Obama's Senate seat and all that, and I know it's illegal and stuff.

But why is it illegal? This Blugoyavitch character is simply obeying the precepts of the unfettered free market - what's wrong with earning a profit? We're not a red commie nation, so I don't understand why so many people who ostensibly claim to support free enterprise are suddenly in a shitstorm about a guy who's just out there to make a buck.

here in illinois, we call him blowjobovich.
Why is it illegal? because it's a democracy. Omamba was pushing for a special election, and Blowjobovich was sitting there thinking of appointing himself if he couldn't get at least a million, Blaming it on his family hurting financially.

In a truly free market, government wouldn't exist. Government is the chain that binds people to state-sponsored slavery, and the free market as described by Milton Friedman (Nobel Prize winner) declares all government anathema.

There's a reason we call the government the government, and the private industry, the private industry.

What are you, a fucking socialist? All regulations do is create stumbling blocks between the people and their interaction with the Market. Government promotes market inefficiency, and a completely deregulated Free Market with no stumbling blocks to create market failure works with 100% efficiency.

I mean, look at the auto industry begging for handouts because of the unions. If the government 75 years ago turned a blind eye and let the unionization movement be crushed, we'd have greater market efficiency in the auto industry and they wouldn't be begging for money today.

For the record, corruption is incompatible with the free market.

For a free market to exist various laws need to be enforced to a certain degree of efficiency. If you can bribe cops and politicians to bypass these laws then you are damaging the free market.

Can you hear the drums fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
    In the firelight fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

    They were closer now fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
    I was so afraid fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And Im not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
    The stars were bright, fernando
They were shining there for you and me
    For liberty, fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
    Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
    I would, my friend, fernando

Now were old and grey fernando
And since many years I havent seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums fernando?
Do you still recall the frightful night we crossed the rio grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land

There was something in the air that night
    The stars were bright, fernando
They were shining there for you and me
    For liberty, fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
    Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
    I would, my friend, fernando

That's why I laugh whenever people say "Pure Communism doesn't work" or "It looks good on paper hurr hurr"

Because pure Capitalism (or a Market Economy for those of you anal enough to distinguish the two) doesn't work either. Pure Market Economy, of course, embraces Laissez-faire. That would mean that the economy is free of government regulation, allowing the rich to accumulate the most money possible and distributing the wealth at the top and leaving it there. For the economy to be "equitable" (not equal) there must be some regulation.

There's a fire to your left and a blizzard to your right... where do you want to be?

As for OP... You best be trolling nigger.

In a truly free market, people working in the market rise and fall according to their worth as agents of economic productivity. The invisible hand of Adam Smith and Milton Friedman slots everyone into their role in the free market clockwork, and they should be grateful for it.

I disagree. You've heard the old saying "It takes money to make money" Well, I whole-heartedly agree with that statement. Without Governmental regulation, there would be no public schools, if you think in the extremes (taxation is a way for the government to affect the economy). Meaning all people without money for public education would be doomed to a constant cycle of "Work all day, make babies, rinse, repeat"

In fact, I attribute the US's current economic recession to deregulation of the market. I don't blame any specific party or anything, because it wouldn't do any good... but I believe the action we've taken up to this point engenders these sort of ups and downs.
