Mainstream media news sources suck ass in america. The only one I respect is the fucking Daily Show, and it's fake news/parody news.

So what is some good english-language news sources out there? I've grabbed the rss feed for english.aljazeera.net and its pretty awesome. they also have a lot of video news reports on the site and a YouTube channel.

    What else is out there?

This probably doesnt count, but scienceblogs.com. All 100 bloggers there are quite good, except for the guy at "Framing Science". And one of the Germans.

    In before the BBC.

There's the BBC, France24, and Russia Today. I even get the 2 latter channels on MHZ in Washington, DC.

Protip: For local news, newspapers are superior. While local TV news focus on who got murdered today or disaster of the day somewhere outside the broadcasting area, newspapers always have a section on real local news on government or society.

Dont even bother with 24 hour news stations in the USA. You can watch them for 2 hours and only get 10 minutes worth of substance. Al-jazeera english, BBC, and for the USA NPR seems to be the most intelligent. Anyone who states fox can easily be disregarded
    >> Anonymous 12/10/08(Wed)21:12:10 No.2400128
The Onion news network is a really nice source for me.

My parents are Afghan, so like every middle easterner, they had to get that fucking satellite dish. Fortunately, it picks up Al Jazeera, and I agree, it is pretty awesome. Really made me see just how laughable American news broadcasts are.

the main news outlets in america are all owned by a few big corporations. american media is for profit and nothing more, which is why the news sucks

    Try democracynow.org.

Sure, it's heavily democrat but at least they're covering what's happening in america.

projectcensored.org is an EXTREMELY valuable website. links to hundreds of underground news websites that don't just publish AP news. they have links to websites from almost any contry you're interested in.

Democracy now is not a democrat thing, its a leftist thing. When people bash CNN or NPR for being hard left its very obvious that the commenter has not a fucking clue in the world of what left actually is. Now pacifica is a good place to point at if you want to call something left/progressive. No commercials and there is more substance in 30 minutes than you will find in a whole day worth of broadcasting from any of the major 24 hour news stations. It also showcases the best and the worst the left has to offer, from great science programing like Exploration to wacky crazy new age fucknuts who think the placement of Jupiter has any effect on national politics

Yeah, that's a better way to put it. I suppose it was just the last election that made it seem so specifically democratic (even though they were the only news that covered and interviewed the other presedential candidates).

I haven't seen any of pacifica's other programs, are there any worth looking into?

Daily Show is awesome, as is the Colbert Report. That said, I really like watching Keith Olbermann as well. Don't always agree with everything he says, but I admire his eloquence and conviction.

For my fake news there's always Fox...
