I feel bad for Delgo. The director started working on his vision ten years ago and worse luck followed him than the guy who tried to direct Don Quixote (forget his name at the moment).

I mean...his main lead died when they were almost done. They had to keep updating the animation. And now his movie won't reach $2 million. Laugh all you want at Delgo...I though will mourn for it.

This is why I love Cartoon Brew:

"Moments like this really make one pause and reflect. What is the world coming to when an animated film with the voices of Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Chris Kattan, Anne Bancroft, Eric Idle, Val Kilmer, Lou Gossett Jr, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Clarke Duncan, Burt Reynolds and Kelly Ripa isn’t a box office blockbuster? A story that makes sense and visuals that don’t make you want to heave are quaint touches, but the filmmakers behind Delgo understood where it really counted: celebrity voice actors. They hired every B- and C-list actor this side of Dancing With the Stars and somehow still failed. You know the recession is affecting Americans deeply when they no longer want to see Chris Kattan and Kelly Ripa voicing their CG characters."

    >Never heard of Delgo? Well, it'll be a household word come Christmas 2004 - at least if Atlanta's Fathom Studios has anything to do about it. If all goes according to plan, Fathom's Delgo will challenge Hollywood's big animation houses (like Pixar) in the arena of CGI-animated feature films.

    >Fathom hopes Delgo will be the beginning of a franchise that will include sequels, prequels and a variety of spin-off stories in every medium from film to books. There are also plans for all sorts of action figures, toys, kids' clothing - pretty much anything a fan could think of (and probably more).

I usually see movies in the afternoon every week, and there's often just 3-5 people in the theatre no matter what movie it is.

Most people go to the movies in the evening and are likely going to see whatever movie was marketed well. Delgo has done fuck all in the way of advertising, and so it makes sense that they'd get the attendance of an indie movie.

Though this movie may be misunderstood now, I'm sure our children's generation will be able to truly make it a part of Americana.

It'll be like Coca-Cola and mom's warm apple pie.

It won some obscure Brazilian animation festival, and the trailers are literally using that and only that as the reason to see it.

    To paraphrase Mark Kermode:

Your life may suck, but at least you can wake up in the morning knowing you didn't spend ten years making Delgo.

I have never heard of Delgo before in my life, but I'm literally crying with laughter at some of the posts in this thread.

wonder what kind of box office it would do if it had a marketing budget. it would prove people would see shit just from the marketing alone.

In college I had a free DOOM poster that I got at an early free screening, and I would wake up and go, "at least today cant be as bad as DOOM was"

posting your work online daily means that the production team probably circlejerk about this movie on some forum and got stroked by 5 posters who frequented it. this is a common thing when doing indie projects.. the team just takes forever to do anything because they waste all their time discussing/defending it online.

the main problem here is that the characters look hideous.
they look like they're from some obscure lame bargain bin game and it destroys and credibility the movie may have.

Watching a couple of minutes of the film reveals the script is as bad you'd expect it to be, it really had no credibility to begin with.

Sorry, but a few minutes of Chris Kattan is a few minutes too many. Had to turn it off.

By the time the viewer knows the script is bad, he already paid the ticket.
Nobody would want to even pay the ticket with the poster sporting those hideous character designs.
