  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

Why do people care so much about sports?
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:18:36 No.2349238
No idea, I do martial arts and enjoy that but I'm not obsessed with sports. I can't remember the last time I went to a live game or watched sport on TV (when did I even own a TV?)
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:22:31 No.2349261
I'm not sure. I hate sports. I don't see what's so great about them. I hate playing them, I hate watching them, I hate talking about them and I hate hearing people talk about them.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:23:31 No.2349268
I thought the same til I went and watched a football game live in person.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:23:37 No.2349269
It can get pretty interesting, but some people take it too far by obsessing over even the slightest details. I only really watch the NHL playoffs (regular season is a snorefest to me) and moto/f1 GP but when some sports nut tries talking about every minor detail to me I get lost as hell.

Some people like things that you don't enjoy, I'm sure you have interests that other people think are boring aswell
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:25:27 No.2349283
I never really understdood. My friend said "if you were ever into playing a sport you'd understand", not knowing I played hockey for the local hockey team for three seasons, organized soccer and basketball games with my friends, all sorts of athletic shit. I still think people are stupidly obsessed with it. Same with music, which I also have had a huge involvement in. People take the shit way too seriously, like hockey dads or soccer moms who make it so their kids will never, ever have fun at a motherfucking game.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:25:38 No.2349284
Because you get an emotional investment or attachment to a team or players.

    It's not stupid.

In the UK you are born into a family with a long standing tradition of supporting their local club. Generation after generation, it is etched into the psyche of your family, your local community and you cannot avoid it.

Also, it's fun to be a part of something.

I thought the same about live sports for a while, but after having played and watched games of League of Legends I understand how watching people play at higher skill level something that you play yourself can be interesting. I don't understand how people can be into following sports otherwise, though.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:28:45 No.2349310
because I like to see people perform athletic feats and succeed in competitive situations. also good conversation starter.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:30:00 No.2349314
I find it odd that fans will gladly riot and damage their own cities for them.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:30:44 No.2349320
Why do people care about anything?
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:34:48 No.2349343

congratulations anon, your smart for doing something just because your parents do.

As a somewhat depressed individual, sports is one of the few times I feel genuine, strong emotions (other than the soul crushing emptiness which kicks in most evening).

The thrill of success, the sinking feeling of defeat. Heart pounding in the last 5 minutes. Gut wrenching anger when a player you hate does something annoying.

Anybody who suffers from depression should watch sports, it's almost like a little emotional exercise for me. I feel drained afterwards.

Fuck off you little edgy shit

Why do people like anything? It's entertainment.

Anything you do is not going to be self inspired, hipster shit. You are either going to look at a role model, your cultural norms, or your peers to do what you "want" to do. You're acting like cheering for a team at the end of the week is the same as blindly following a religion.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)20:40:20 No.2349389
Well, it is simple - sports and games are the logical consequence of the type of competitions our animalistic ancestor had to place their standing within the tribe. And since humans tend to rationalize their animalistic nature (see also: "love"), sports are seen as something of high importance.

i know this feel right here
i don't know if op is trying to rustle my jimmies or what, but that is a pretty stupid question. it's like asking why do people like movies so much? why do care so much about anime?
