So, how many of you claim to have a mental dis-order?

I only ask because it seems that every single introverted guy claims to have autism these days when they just can't face the idea of simply being introverted.

Maybe learn what being an introvert actually is, you dumbfuck.

    I'm introverted, but I don't think I'm autistic.

It's hip to have a disorder, it's hip to be autistic, aspergic, schizophrenic or a bipolar sociopath.

I don't know why it happens.
    >> Anonymous 04/15/12(Sun)10:29:02 No.2120546
I can, because it's actually under Axis I in my medical chart that I have an anxiety disorder.
    >> Anonymous 04/15/12(Sun)10:29:34 No.2120550
It seems to me these days that it is too easy to get a disorder.

    >teacher, i can't read this shit.
Oh, you must be dyslexic, we'll give you that label so you can use it as an excuse throughout your life.

    >I am out of breath
Shit, you have asthma? Quick sit down and don't bother developing healthy lungs to counter act it at all.

It ruins the children because they believe that they can't work properly any-more, so they have the excuse and get lazy.

I believe you missed my point.
It was that people who are introverted can't find a reason that they are anti-social. So they hear about autism and diagnose themselves online, when they are simply introverted all along.

I always thought anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder and depression were the ones people self-diagnosed for sympathy.

I've been diagnosed with Asperger's but I don't think I have it, I think I am just introverted and nerdy, which is the opposite of what you're complaining about I guess.

True, but pills can help those things, with autism young men self diagnose and say "don't be mean to me, I'm autistic", and what not.

This makes a lot of sense especially with the bipolar bit as they equate moodiness to being bipolar.

All you mentioned is commonly diagnosed by a proper mental health professional. However, bipolar disorder is really the new ADHD--just about everyone is diagnosed with it. Even people who are qualified to give diagnoses are over-diagnosing it when they're not really bipolar.

Oh god, that really rustles my jimmies. Autists and aspies can be extroverts, in fact, they usually crave attention from people. They just don't understand and process things the same way. I think the problem is that most people don't really know what these disorders are.

I hope to see a GP about my anxiety and possible depression as I find shit like that is inhibiting my work and times where I find it hard to relax.

Hopefully the doc will be forgiving and gimmie some pills as I have no medical history (see begging) and my mother had persecutory delusional disorder, social anxiety, and paranoid schizophrenia.

if wish i was truly autismal because then i would have an excuse for being a friendless introvert and there would be doctors and support groups of people trying to fix me.

introverts do not garner sympathy and certainly do not reach out to each other for support

lots of aspies actually are extroverts. i don't have a diagnosis, but i probably am on the autism spectrum. when i was younger i used to walk up to people and just start talking, but the problem was that i didn't know when to shut up and i couldn't pick up on their irritation with me. when i was about 12 i kinda started noticing it, so i stopped talking almost altogether, and i'm pretty introverted now

Psychiatrists not only prescribe medications for mental disorder, but they also do a lot of the same stuff psychologists do. As such, they're sometimes the ideal person to go to. The only difference is that they tend to focus on the medical model, whereas psychologists focus more on cognitive-behavioral models for treating the disorder. However, psychiatrists are trained in the same exact stuff. As such, it's just easier to go a psychiatrist.

A travesty! you have bipolar disorder. It's not like mood swings are uncommon for 99% of people (read: women) or anything.

i still have a hard time figuring it out, even with people i like. it's why i don't talk much, and it's easiest to assume i'm annoying everybody around me because i probably am. i learned my social skills from books about improving them, so yeah. otherwise i'd have no clue about the significance of body language and facial expressions in interaction. i'm completely tone deaf, but if i wasn't i'd try to use tone of voice to figure out what other people are feeling. i've been told my voice is pretty monotonous, and i'm pretty bad at self-expression. also, females are less likely to receive asperger's diagnoses because they're forced into social situations more frequently and exhibit fewer traits

I'm not sure how to ask given my anxiety and all and I'm not really a conversationalist (thus being on /r9k/). Would something like "I would like to be evaluated for depression/anxiety"?

I have shit written out to prevent a spaghetti-infused blinder as I will probably be too nervous to ask without some guideline.
