guess I'll be the one who does the horrible derail, in that I still
watch anime (age 21) but have fallen out of watching cartoons. I
remember seeing an episode of Chowder like a week ago, and thinking
that the animation was much better than I'd expected, but, I mean,
c'mon, you watch that shit for ten years and it becomes basically the
same exact jokes with different characters/scenery.
There's
really nothing mature being offered by American animation studios, even
Pixar, for all its fanboy legions, is basically telling middle school
level morality stories. Anime is frequently just as bad, but at least
there are a few studios putting out stuff aimed at older audiences. I
just watched the anime of Kafka's "A Country Doctor" a month ago; I
don't expect that kind of material from an American cartoon/animation
studio for at least a few decades, if ever. |
