    do any of you robots watch cartoons? I am 22 and watch them religiously, more than any live action television. Some people would view this as weird, thinking that cartoons are 'for kids.' Where do you stand on it?

    Two years ago I would have been right there with you. Now, what is there? Johnny Test, Chowder and Flapjack? No thanks, I've already seen Dexter's Lab and Spongebob.

    most of my friends watch cartoons. we're in the 18-20 age range. i can understand watching them for the nostalgiabomb, but they're watching stuff like foster's home for imaginary friends, billy and mandy...i don't see anything ~wrong~ with it, but i don't see the appeal, either.

    ...i do feel left out when they talk about animu and cartoons together, though ;_;

    To be fair Foster's is pretty good, unlike the beer. To be second fair B+M is okay.

    I worry about those who watch Nick Jr. over 12.

    All the time. Beyond sports, that's about all I watch.

    I'm 24 and in a PHD program. My TV is on sprout most of the day. It runs pre school cartoons all day long. My studies are stressful and complicated so during my down time, I want stuff simple and innocent.

    My roommate is twenty-one and watches cartoons all the fucking time. I find them shrill, loud, snarky and annoying, even the ones that are meant for more mature audiences. He's an animation major, though, so I guess it justifies it for him.

    I also hate most live-action television, though. Cartoons can at least be intelligent.

    I guess I'll be the one who does the horrible derail, in that I still watch anime (age 21) but have fallen out of watching cartoons. I remember seeing an episode of Chowder like a week ago, and thinking that the animation was much better than I'd expected, but, I mean, c'mon, you watch that shit for ten years and it becomes basically the same exact jokes with different characters/scenery.

    There's really nothing mature being offered by American animation studios, even Pixar, for all its fanboy legions, is basically telling middle school level morality stories. Anime is frequently just as bad, but at least there are a few studios putting out stuff aimed at older audiences. I just watched the anime of Kafka's "A Country Doctor" a month ago; I don't expect that kind of material from an American cartoon/animation studio for at least a few decades, if ever.

    Most of the cartoons for a young audience suck at the moment. I really like Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, but that is the only current cartoon I actually like, some of the older ones I'll watch if I catch them on would be Angry Beavers (FUCK YEAH LOVE IT), and well, thats really all I can think of at the moment for cartoons for kids I watch.

    Animu aside, there are a lot of cartoon shows I really enjoy, some made for a mature audience and some not. Venture Bros. and Samurai Jack. Mission Hill and Chowder.

    Aside form the "adult" type cartoons like the shit on AS or Fox and a few animes I still watch a lot of stuff for nostalgia reasons; old Merrie Melodies and Hanna-Barbara stuff or old Nicktoons like Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy and relatively old cartoon network stuff like Dexter's Lab or Sheep in the Big City.
