Where I live (Brisbane, Australia) has really awful/expensive public transport. My suburb is only 20-30 mins from the CBD but it costs 5 bucks for an adult ticket.

Driving is pretty essential.

I'm 26 and I still don't have mine. I've tried to learn but for reasons I can't fully explain, being as aware as I need to in order to drive decently is extremely taxing and stressful on me, and it carries over into when I'm not actually driving. So I never do it.

I absolutely know this feel. I don't even know how to drive. Forget the signs and shit, I'm talking basic learning how to steer and not fucking crash.

I got my license right after I reached 18, mostly because it's easy as fuck in a 3rd world country. The first months were a hell, now after a year and half of driving I'm doing somewhat good, but it stresses me so I try to drive only when it's really needed (bicycle for my daily commuting and bus if I have to go to the downtown).

I would like to get a motorcycle but I'm afraid of having the same dissapointting about riding as driving.

I'm turning twenty and I still don't have mine (though I have my permit).

The notion of freedom. Being 16 and having a car means you don't have to depend on your parents or anyone else. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want, without having to take public transportation.

Also, a lot of places are spread out, to the point where you need some form of transportation. In my area, the bus system is horrible, so cars are needed.

It's alright OP, I'm 21 and don't have my license. However living in Boston grants me access to nearly all of Massachusetts with the MBTA (even if it's an overpriced piece of shit service) so I never really had to urge to get mine.

I didn't get my license until I was 19 either OP. It's pretty easy to get with no training. Just find a driving school that does tests, a really shitty one with a foreign instructor. Have them set it up, usually they're friends with someone at the DMV, if you can drive around a block, they'll usually just give it to you.

Whats the point? cars are fucking expensive to operate these days. Fuel alone costs more to insure the damn thing and if you get in an accident your rates go up regardless of who was at fault. I like cars and am going to school to be a mechanic, but you'll never see me owning one.

How did you get over it? I had a huge panic attack for almost no reason while in the back seat around four years ago and am still terrified. I was on a long period of feeling decent until around February of this year when I had multiple panic attacks.

Driving is fucking shit for someone absentminded and frugal. I hate spending money on gas so I don't bother going for destinationless rides, and my mind wanders (especially on trodden paths which IS ALL I DRIVE) so I'm always one second's thought from death.
