It's manageable here, though. I live in Zone 1 and I have a car, but you can get by without one, so long as you don't mind carrying green bags for a bit.

The notion of freedom. Being 16 and having a car means you don't have to depend on your parents or anyone else. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want, without having to take public transportation.

Also, a lot of places are spread out, to the point where you need some form of transportation. In my area, the bus system is horrible, so cars are needed.

It's alright OP, I'm 21 and don't have my license. However living in Boston grants me access to nearly all of Massachusetts with the MBTA (even if it's an overpriced piece of shit service) so I never really had to urge to get mine.

I just got my license when I turned 29 and honestly yeah it's expensive as fuck to have a car, and yeah since I live in a big city you really really don't need car at all for anything it's changed one big thing in my life.

    getting pussy.

I'm not even talking about the chicks that just want to fuck you because having a car shows your wealth (fuck those hoes) it's more like I can go to girls without having to watch the transit schedule or I can make a 1am booty call happen - just drive over in 10 mins and hit it.

    shit's so cash

I frequently find myself driving down unfamiliar roads in my town because I love driving so much. It's even more fun when I see an interesting house or a historic monument I didn't know existed.

I didn't get my license until I was 19 either OP. It's pretty easy to get with no training. Just find a driving school that does tests, a really shitty one with a foreign instructor. Have them set it up, usually they're friends with someone at the DMV, if you can drive around a block, they'll usually just give it to you.

I'm 19 (and Australian) but I lived in the city for the past year so I haven't needed to get one but now I feel like I should get it, I'm trying to get a manual license due to peer pressure even though no one I know owns a manual car. I've been getting lessons but it doesn't seem to be sinking in.

Whats the point? cars are fucking expensive to operate these days. Fuel alone costs more to insure the damn thing and if you get in an accident your rates go up regardless of who was at fault. I like cars and am going to school to be a mechanic, but you'll never see me owning one.

How did you get over it? I had a huge panic attack for almost no reason while in the back seat around four years ago and am still terrified. I was on a long period of feeling decent until around February of this year when I had multiple panic attacks.

    >that feel when i haven't been in a car for more than 5 minutes in several weeks
    >that feel when i have to bike to get food or get nothing

I've had many different prescriptions for panic disorder, (I am anxious about many things) but nothing has helped me so far.

Got it when i turned 18. The fuck is wrong with ya'll? Driving is one of my favorite fucking things. That feel when it's 1am and you're carving the Malibu canyons in your ride while blasting soothing trance. Better than fucking sex. Not to mention the freedom of being able to go WHEREVER the fuck I want WHENEVER the fuck I want. the novelty of it still hasn't wore off and I'm 21 already.

Kills my wallet though. Insurance and gas...

Do yourself a big favor and get the damn license now before you get older and even more awkward.

Driving is fucking shit for someone absentminded and frugal. I hate spending money on gas so I don't bother going for destinationless rides, and my mind wanders (especially on trodden paths which IS ALL I DRIVE) so I'm always one second's thought from death. When I graduate I am moving to a city so I don't have to deal with this bullshit anymore. Next year can't come soon enough.
    >> Anonymous 04/18/12(Wed)00:55:48 No.2153793
I am 19. I kind of have a license. I can drive unaccompanied but still have some restrictions that a fully licensed driver wouldn't. I got this classification at age 18. I first got my learners at 17. Probably won't get my full license until I'm 20. I hate driving anyways, and I am a danger to myself and others when I'm on the road. I prefer to bum rides everywhere from friends.

I'm 25 and I don't have a license, never had a job, and I still live with my mom.

It's not not having a car that bothers me, it's that I have to do all of my shopping manually and it's pretty embarrassing getting on a bus or train with a shitton of groceries.
    >> Anonymous 04/18/12(Wed)02:44:21 No.2154622
prices are getting ridicules if you don't have a full time job that pays. i just paid $35 for gas. when i first got my car it paid $20 to fill it up.

to get license you have to pay for a car, pay insurance every month, pay gas every week, it gets expensive.
