How many of you don't have any religious or political views? If not, how do you react whenever these subjects get brought up? For the hell of it, what is your philosophy and why do you think that way?

I have strong political views and I have great fun reading/expanding my knowledge and discussing politics with people. The problem is most people cannot be fucked and see it all as shit which for the most part (99%) it is, there are occasionally a politician who is pretty inspiring and truthful though.

I'm agnostic with atheist tendencies (ie, more willing to side with the position of god not existing). politically, I have no idea where I stand. in general I just withhold my opinion on things I believe I'm not sufficiently informed about. this creates an upside of not being an idiot who shouts opinions that are uninformed, but also makes me a very boring person.
    >> Anonymous 04/11/12(Wed)03:04:25 No.2070905
I guess that my ideologies are close to cynicism, and one of my greatest inspirations has always been (since I was at least 14) Diogenes of Sinope. I'm rather skeptical about religion and mostly about anything (see "Munchhausen Trilemma"). I'm actually a carefree and easygoing fella. :)

    >How many of you don't have any religious or political views?

Unless you were born feral on an island, you'll have views one way or the other.

I'm an atheist with mostly classical liberal views issues.

    >If not, how do you react whenever these subjects get brought up?

I react depending on the person or group I'm speaking with. Most people I know have similar views to me, so it's like preaching to the choir sometimes, when having a discussion with them.
The few times I've clashed with an individual at school, I explained my position, why I thought that way, and why I thought the person I was talking with maybe wrong.
I'm not an "I am an atheist, debate me" fag, by any means. I loathe people like that. Throughout my school experience, I mostly kept to myself even when my jimmes got really rustled.

    >For the hell of it, what is your philosophy and why do you think that way?

If I had to define my overall life in the present term with a philosophy, it would be probably be hedonism. I really just care about pleasuring myself above any other concerns. I'd like to evolve into a stoic as I gain more wisdom and maturity though. I am this way because this the way my environment and my personal experiences have shaped me. I would probably be a completely different person If I were born in say, China.

    >atheist
    >believe that government officials are just puppets

As for the upcoming election, I'm not voting because, even without my belief, I don't like any of them and don't think any of them would be good for the country (I'm being a typical amerifat and assuming everyone else is amerifat).

As for people talking about them, I just keep out of the conversation. If they ask me specifically, I'll tell them that I'm an atheist or that I don't believe politics is actually what we see it as. You can't change anyone's opinion on those subjects by arguing. They're too stubborn.

    i don't care about anything.
I live everday, just to make it through.
    These subjects never come up.
I am extremely ignorant but I don't care.
I'm not sad, just greatly misinformed.
I am blind, and sometimes ashamed that I don't really hold a political stance, but in the end, I don't do anything about it.

As for religion, I just don't care either...I don't really believe there is a god...yet, I don't know how this world came to be, and why we're here. I guess some people have the need to fill themselves with something that will give them meaning and whatnot.

I'm an atheist but won't bring it up unless someone asks. Politically and philosophically, I'm pretty nihilistic. In college I discovered my current hero, Max Stirner. Generally I'll vote for libertarian-leaning candidates, even if they have no chance of winning. But I hate discussing politics with people IRL because everyone is so emotionally invested in the topic.

Moderate as fuck and agnostic. i don't like affiliating with a party, so I just register Independent. There is no argument out there that can prove to me God exists, but there isn't one to prove he doesn't either. I don't understand why people feel a need to affiliate themselves with a political party/religion besides simply not wanting to think for themselves.

That whole thing came off pretty angsty.. I'm much more chill about this stuff than i probably sound
    >> Anonymous 04/12/12(Thu)17:01:50 No.2088243
I have them, but I no longer have any emotional investment in them. I vote locally when it comes up, and that's pretty much the extent of my "activism." I am also willing to discuss the subjects with people who seem to genuinely be interested in an exchange of ideas and are similar to me, in that they aren't so gung ho about it to start turning red and begin screaming. I can honestly say that I don't hate anybody for their religious or political beliefs, I just want people to get along to some degree.

As for the beliefs I hold. I consider myself a Deist, I'm not really into the theories or whatever, but the definition of Deism is closest to my thoughts on the subject. Politically I flip flop a fuck-ton, I can't get comfortable. But I would say I'm some where along a libertarian and a fascist. Sometimes I believe a free market and individualism is the cure to our problems: if people take a pride in themselves and work for themselves we won't bother killing each other since we're too content in ourselves. On the other hand this hyper individualism I see today is sometimes disgusting, and might be the root of all our problems. And then I begin to consider fascism, but I am not totally sure it would need to be racial, though I don't rule it out.
    >> Anonymous 04/12/12(Thu)17:05:24 No.2088277
I don't have any religious or political views and I have no philosophy. I even have a hard time forming an opinion on art above "it kept me interested".

I just can't bring myself to care about any of this stuff and I find it really strange that people get really worked up about things you can't prove one way or the other or that don't effect them at all or why you need to explain the world in some way.

When people bring up these topics I just agree with whatever they say since people get pissed when I say I don't care, more so than if I said the polar opposite of their belief, then they'd just have a lively debate with me and not imply I'm an airhead retard.

I have a reasonable knowledge of the UK political system but I'm incredibly apathetic about it. Before the last general election I, like most other students, bought into the whole liberal democrats bullshit.

Since then I've realised that no matter who gets in to power things are just going to get worse for everyone, pointless laws will continue to be made and held up. They're not going to stop starting wars with every arabic country they can vaguely justify.

Now I just don't participate in discussions about it, or if I do I state my pessimistic/realist views and then refrain.

Generally people respect my position and don't dig further than that, I think it's because deep down most people know that I'm right - the people in charge don't actually care about the general populace, they only pretend to do so so they can make a lot of money and secure their own security.

In regards to religion I'm an atheist but I don't have a problem with religious people, if anything I envy them for being able to believe in something that's so obviously false.

You beat me to it. Damn.

My philosophy is a mixture of many with a large helping of misanthropy and a dash of nihilism. I'm pretty well read in philosophy and I take parts of many different philosophy. Chances are if I talked to my friends about philosophy they'd get a migraine. No I'm not being arrogant. They're really that stupid.

Religion, I usually just tell them I'm not big on the whole god thing which is funny considering my fiancee is moderately catholic. I just can't believe in something I've seen no proof of. I have a real problem being told how I should act and think. Threat of divine punishment shouldn't drive somebody to think and act well. The definition of right and wrong changes in different circumstances. One can never say this is always right and this is always wrong in every single case. That's what religion tries to do.

Politics has become diluted since it left it's roots in ancient times and lets be honest your opinion is never really considered. You are given two or more options and you vote for the one you partially agree with. In reality you have no say unless you vote with the majority. If you aren't the majority your vote is practically invalid. I'm apolitical and politics for me is pointless.

I tend to tell people I have no opinion to shut them up and so I don't have to get into it with them. Politics and Religion turn good people into shit, friends into enemies and ruin a decent conversation.
