see, that illustrates part of the "problem" with Facebook: just like
most tools, idiots who use it will hurt themselves. A lot of people just
sort of blindly accept friend-requests from anyone who makes one. Don't
do that. Deny by default - if you don't recognize the person making the
request AND you can't think of a good reason why you'd want to interact
with that person, turn it down. And make sure your posts are only
visible to your friends.
Also, as was noted, be careful what you
post. You can remove tags. Employers may look at your Facebook - some of
them even want you to give them your passwords. You'll have to be
careful to present a sanitized version of yourself for others to see.
Much like dealing with normalfags in meatspace.
That isn't to say
it's inherently bad. You can genuinely meet people you'll genuinely
enjoy associating with through Facebook, and if you want to blend in
with the normals, it's virtually expected that you'll have one now.
You'll be fine as long as you're not an idiot. |
