/r9k/ should I make a facebook? This girl in my class has been pestering me to do it for months but I never liked the site and I don't know what to put on it.
What is facebook about and will my shit get tracked if I go on it?
    pic unrelated

You don't have to put anything on it except your name.

    >girl pestering you to do it
    >she wants to stalk you

I knew that feel in college. Friends wanted me to tag me in shit or however the fuck it works.
    >finegosh.jpg
Made one and never logged in.

Yes. There's no good reason not to have one. It's a great step in between asking for a number and not knowing each other. It's how people invite other people to social events. You can stalk hot chicks. Facebook chat is awesome for casual conversation. It can act like a yearbook for your life, if you do anything worth reminiscing on.
Only negatives I ever hear from people is that facebook sells your information (who gives a fuck, I use adblock plus), people sound/look fake (get cooler friends, don't be fake yourself), and that's it's too much of a distraction (lol 4chan is worse).

    >Yes. There's no good reason not to have one
there is like a lot of good reason to not have one.

facebook pretty much saves all the information/texts/pics/if you tag someone.
even if you don't have facebookand your friends tagged you in a pic or some shit, facebook saves that.
but that is not all: one of the things they do with your information is that they sell it to ad companies. so now ad companies know what you like and will make ads specifically designed to what you like.

though this is not all facebook does cause they don't say what they are actually doing with the information. you can't even delete your fucking profile cause everything you typed in will be there forever.

now imagine if google and facebook used all the information they have against you: they know everything about you. who you are, where you live, what you do.

ffs there was even a guy who worked at google and stalked 16 year old girls cause he had access to their information.
information is like the most valuable thing you can have.

doesn't bother me because why the hell would facebook or google give enough of a shit about me to want to use information against me?

Make one but be sure not to put anything on there that will make potential employers think badly of you. I've never experienced it first hand but I've heard some shit about that. Better yet just make a facebook that makes you look like an overall awesome person even if it isn't true.
    >> Anonymous 03/23/12(Fri)07:12:36 No.1851291
there is an option to search for your friends in facebook by giving your facebook your email adresses or something: they save all of those email adresses.
that is why fb has/had to go to trial in germany.
fb does not do shit about protecting your information

Right, see, that illustrates part of the "problem" with Facebook: just like most tools, idiots who use it will hurt themselves. A lot of people just sort of blindly accept friend-requests from anyone who makes one. Don't do that. Deny by default - if you don't recognize the person making the request AND you can't think of a good reason why you'd want to interact with that person, turn it down. And make sure your posts are only visible to your friends.

Also, as was noted, be careful what you post. You can remove tags. Employers may look at your Facebook - some of them even want you to give them your passwords. You'll have to be careful to present a sanitized version of yourself for others to see. Much like dealing with normalfags in meatspace.

That isn't to say it's inherently bad. You can genuinely meet people you'll genuinely enjoy associating with through Facebook, and if you want to blend in with the normals, it's virtually expected that you'll have one now. You'll be fine as long as you're not an idiot.

problem with that is that the majority of facebook users don't know how to safely use facebook and shit.

if facebook would even be so nice and give a fuck about their users.
when you are browsing sites while facebook is open that shit can auto post for you what you are doing atm.
facebook is nothing more than a huge trap.

i am never gonna fall for this shit unless they start protecting their user's information.
which they will never do cause that is how they make money.

i am glad i found 4chan cause this is kinda like my "social" network site.
lots of retards here, everyone is anonymous, you can talk about everything.

    im fine with that
