This is to all you pretentious faggots, spoken by Deadmau5:

"Dance wasn't always considered pop, and people like Lady Gaga and [David] Guetta and those guys really brought it out to the commercial market," he said about bringing his sound to the masses. "I'm just getting a lot more fans and God bless it, and that's the goal of being an artist is to get yourself heard by any means possible."

    >that's the goal of being an artist is to get yourself heard by any means possible

    you hear that, hipsters?

    you are right OP.

And it doesn't validate anything that fucking moron says just because you like him, either.

I don't have a problem with what he's saying... but I still don't like deadmau5. He uses a "shotgun approach" to composition - puts out so many tracks that there's inevitably a good one here and there, even though most suck. And he personally is an absolute cunt. Probably the biggest asshole in electronic music aside from Basshunter.

(Basshunter is hard to top... he's been know to throw crying, screaming tantrums like a little girl when venues fail to provide him with free booze.)

Exactly. This shit isn't music or true compostion, it's the work of much better, more talented individuals, electronically cut and pasted by some faggot in a mouse head mask or some trap with a telephone stuck in her hair to a repetitive beat. Why they don't get their asses sued for plagiarism, I don't know.

Most electronic music is *not* built on entire sampled rhythms but on individual sampled instruments arranged note by note into loops by the composer. Programmable pattern synthesizers like the TB-303 feature heavily - you've just never seen it actually done live. Even today that means racks and racks of keyboards and pads. Plus I'd like to see you sit down at a tracker and TRY to produce a song, pic realted

So let me get this straight: you're going to put more work in to get far less done. Because, apparently, it's easy as shit to produce dance music, but ever so hard to pull off that Petrucci solo. With less effort, he'll get the attention and adoration of millions, while you spend exorbitant amounts of time on what amounts to nothing more than doing the same shit other people have already done. Nice work.

Simple people like simple things. Most people think of music as just simple entertainment, something that can be played in the background while you do other shit. When you're listening to some music while doing something, you don't want to have to sit down and actually listen to make sense of it, you want something repetitive and simple.

Also, music is so pervasive today within advertising that people's opinion of it has less to do with how good it actually is than it does with how can you get someone's attention for 5-20 seconds. The easiest way to do this is by keeping it simple, and very non-adventurous.
