Is this "deep web" stuff for real, or is it the web's biggest troll attempt? I've searched a few things before, but it seems the information is so convoluted and requires way too much modification that I didn't bother. Plus, IF this crap is so bad/illegal, who the hell would go knowing full well their ISPs can see where they are/have been? I think it's all a big trolling scheme.

Believe it or not, i don't think its worth it. If i'd like to buy drugs or CP i may be interested in going there, but i don't really give a fuck

The so-called "deep web" just refers to the portion of the internet that isn't indexed by google. Databases, pay sites, private forums, old DARPANET servers that haven't been converted over, sites whose administrators forgot to get them indexed, etc.

It's kind of like calling driveways and parking garages the "deep road," it's just a cool name for a mundane concept.
    >> Anonymous 01/12/12(Thu)11:30:48 No.1073200
All of the "cool" stuff you see people talking about is just TOR onion sites. And the only thing that you can get there that isn't readily available everywhere else is cp.

    It's real, and it survives.

There's more to the Internet than just the first few pages of a Google search son.

At first, when you hear about it from someone like me, it sounds like a joke. Then once you're in, you read the assassination forums and related things, and I mean READ the things the people on there post... And it's not so funny anymore. You could call it scary, but honestly after 2 or 3 well written and detailed posts, it wasn't.

Remember how most people react when they first see some of the "bad" stuff 4chan users post? Remember how those same people just became desensitized over time, and it was eventually like water off a duck's back to them? Same principle applies to your "deep web".

Take it or leave it, that's my answer to your first question.

Oh, and you also may want to brush up on your knowledge of exactly how an ISP (and their subsequent "tracking" of you) works.

The 'deep web' is just any page not indexed by search engines. Any site you have to already know the address of to find is part of the deep web.

Link lists are what you're really looking for if you don't feel like typing in random URL's, but to see the interesting stuff, you're going to need Tor and the hidden wiki.

Warning: You will see CP. You will people selling RPG's. You will see Assassination markets.
    >> Anonymous 01/12/12(Thu)13:08:40 No.1073879

but only SOME of the assassination stuff is legit. what's REALLY detailed is the posts on stuff like how to dispose of a corpse in broad daylight.

it's real op, but if you haven't managed to get through the gateway that is TOR by now, you may as well just not try. besides, you have nothing to gain from it.

Google, at least in the past, would send their spiders out to a website that hadn't been indexed if someone searched the URL.

So, if this still works, couldn't you kinda destroy the whole "deep web" thing by just googling the address of anything you find?

I remember like 2 years ago when this shit was just starting to come up.

-It takes 45 minutes to load a page
-It's all watched by the FBI, considering it takes a single, widely available program to view the content
-All the "markets" you see (assassinations, drugs) are scams or stings
-A lot of the forums used to be /b/ for hackers, but that quickly filled up with wannabes and HURR DURR LEGIONfags when this information started spreading like, ahem, *cancer*
