Guy who works in a chem lab here. I've gotten my measurements all screwed up. I use both about equally but it depends on scale. For instance I can quickly determine large distances in kilometers...however I can't instinctively think of the speed i'm going in KPH, I still think of that in miles per hour. I find pretty much ANY weight easier to think of in grams...except measurement of medium size objects like animals and people. Volume is a toss up, I know instinctively how much both a gallon and a liter is so can use both interchangeably. However I never use ounces or pints.

So yeah, metric from an american point of view.
    >> Anonymous 07/25/10(Sun)14:42:50 No.10306522

Farva: [Annoyed] A litre o' cola.
Dimpus Burger Guy: [into mic] Litrecola? Do we sell litrecola?
Thorny: Will you just order a large, Farva?
    Farva: I don't want a large farva. I want a goddamn litre o' cola!
Dimpus Burger Guy: [to Farva] I don't know what that is!
Farva: [slowly starts shouting] Litre is French for...

current should be measured in ampere, of course. what i meant was, there is no sense in having it as a base unit because it is defined as this and that many electrons passing a point during one second.

so it could really be defined from other units

No I know. I just meant to me, it didn't make any sense to list how many ml something was when it was something completely random. If we had measurements that went nicely back and forth, it would make more sense to have those measurements shown too. Always am the only one laughing about this, though, so it worries other people and they don't understand why I'm so obsessed with measurements. It's kinda funny, actually.

They are, but we don't understand that a 2 liter is 2 of another unit of measurement. I grew up thinking 2 liters were just like 6 cans of soda that went flat really fast, so thats why it was cheap. When we hit high school, it finally made sense after the 2nd time I went through a class that used nothing but m/k/s. But once you understand that system, the US's just doesn't make any fucking sense anymore. Goddamn retards if you ask me.
