    Sup, /ck/

Nutrition newfag here. I don't make that much money and I need to save everything I can to pay off my debt. I want to eat the least amount possible while still eating healthy.

I've got the basics down, a big bag of rice/ground beef/eggs/chicken etc.

What exactly do I need for vegetables and fruits to be healthy?

    Yes I asked /fit/ and /ck/

Rice and beans son. Go to Chinatown, buy yourself a 20 pound bag of strange rice for next to nothing. Get yourself some cheap goddamn beans. Maybe some spices, if you're into that shit. Cook them. DELICIOUS. FILLING. CHEAP.

Don't fall into the trap of ramen, it may be cheap but it's not filling and you'll be hungry again in about half an hour.
    >> Anonymous 07/24/10(Sat)18:06:50 No.10288561
Don't buy branded products; buy shops own, or go to a market.

Hell, grow your own food, it's not that hard.

Anyway, some carrots, peppers, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, watercress, potatoes and mushrooms won't cost that much if you do the above, and are rather healthy, and not that bland.

Filling.. but is it nutritious? I mean, does it have protein? It's all about the protein.
    >> Anonymous 07/24/10(Sat)18:10:56 No.10288643
    1. Buy some protein powder
    2. Put it on EVERYTHING
    3. ???

    actually...

    make your own ramen.

Go to chinatown, get a big bag of noodles, get some really cheap meat there as well maybe some eggs if they're going cheap to.

Also quite a few spices, it's probably better if you get yourself a jar of mixed spice

make it like you would make soup (boil the eggs and chuck them in).

Make a massive pot and freeze it, and there you go, healthy, cheap, ramen!

I wonder about this too - I've made beans and rice for dinner before, and it is indeed filling and cheap, though i wonder about ways to spice it up. But yeah, mainly - is it nutritious?

Think about how mcu you own that's made in china.

Think about how much rice they eat.

Would they be able to make that much stuff if rice was unhealthy?

    Student schnitzel:

    You need:
    - bread
    - oil
    - a frying pan
    - onions
    - mustard

Pan-fry the bread with onions. Eat with mustard.

Throw some peppers, mushrooms, carrots and onions in there, and you're good to go.

also, if you fry something, stick a bit of white bread in to soak up the oli/fat.

Fried bread is delicious and a nice addition to any meal.

Here is a very simple meal, easy to prepare, pretty good for you, and you can make enough for several portions.

    Ingredients:

-1 pound lean ground beef (or turkey, which I prefer, less salt)
    - 1 16 oz. bag of frozen mixed veggies (off-brand for best value) OR 5 cups of fresh veggies of your choice, steamed

    - 2 cans stewed tomatoes

    - Optional: Small can tomato paste and a small can of V8

    1. Cook veggies (steam fresh ones, or boil the frozen veggies and drain).

    2. In a large pan or skillet with a lid, brown the meat, drain the fat.

    3. Add the veggies and 2 cans of stewed tomatoes.

    4. Bring to boil, then set to low. Simmer for 20 minutes.

    5. Serve with rice. Should make at least 4 servings for one person, depending on how much you eat.

    6. If you want the mixture to be thicker, add 2 table spoons of the tomato paste. If you want it thinner, add the small can of V8.

Rice and beans is surprisingly good, my roommate is poor and spanish, and fuck if he doesn't know how to make a boring meal interesting for 50 cents a day.
