    INCEPTION

LET ME SAVE YOU 2 HOURS.

LEO IS DREAMING THE WHOLE TIME. THE WHOLE MOVIE IS A DREAM FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE

WHY DID THE TOP NOT FALL AT THE END? HE WAS STILL DREAMING. ALSO HIS KIDS WERE WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES AS IN HIS DREAMS

Does that somehow make it any less valid.

All movies could end with it all being a dream. What difference would it make. (although in this instance it sort of ties into it a bit more)
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:11:11 No.10248543
Thanks OP. I came out of it not fucking understanding where reality was.

You know, I think Inception is one of those unspoilerable movies. Everything that happens builds on earlier stuff, so to spoil the ending you'd pretty much have to explain the whole plot, otherwise no one would have any idea what you were talking about.

    Ambiguity, motherfuckers, ambiguity.

Besides, everybody knows he had been dreaming since he went under Yusuf's sedative in Mombasa.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:12:14 No.10248561
    thats just a theory op

its left up to the viewer to decide whether the top falls or not

but the top totally started to wobble
like everyone knew it was going to fall
if it were truly a dream it wouldn't have lost any centripetal momentum
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:12:38 No.10248574
ATTENTION IDIOTS: The ending was purposely crafted to make it ambiguous. However, in every actual dream sequence he was wearing his wedding ring or some shit. In the end he wasn't wearing his ring, so he probably wasn't dreaming, and you are probably an idiot because you read this and I said attention idiots.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:13:51 No.10248596
This is a troll thread, but just to say somethin':

Top was a red herring, it wasn't a totem. The top was Mal's, not Cobb's (and the one rule of a totem is that only the owner may touch it), and so it really doesn't matter if it spins or falls.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:14:01 No.10248604

    >>10248552

WHY WAS HE BEING CHASED BY AGENTS IN MUMBASA. JUST LIKE IN HIS DREAMS?
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:15:24 No.10248620
    >>10248574
The ring thing is untrue, I watched the movie a third time just to check that.

    >>10248552
It *is* however true that Cobb didn't spin the top after Mombasa up until the ending, so this theory is perfectly valid.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:15:48 No.10248628

    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:16:20 No.10248639
    >>10248596
Well, it doesn't matter if it falls, but I don't care who's touched the top, if it's spinning forever something is probably up.
    >> Parhelion 07/23/10(Fri)00:16:55 No.10248647
    >>10248618
    lol u mad, sir.

The idea that Cobol Engineering's agents are subconscious projections (something Mal explicitly suggested in the Limbo level) is valid, buuuuuuut... in a dream, every projection attacks you, they don't pick and choose. If Cobb was dreaming in Mombasa, all those people in the crowd would be chasing him, not just the Cobol guys.

Not only this, I think there's a good reason for the ambiguity (other than to screw with the audience, of course): it really doesn't matter. Leo doesn't bother to keep watching to see if the top falls or not because he doesn't really care if he's in a dream or not; he's content to be with his children, whether it's "reality" doesn't matter (super fun challenge problem: define "objective reality"). Even without the last scene, there would be lots of people wondering if it was still a dream or not. That scene doesn't just reinforce the ambiguity, it also demonstrates that it doesn't really matter; it's a happy ending either way.

THEY SAID AGENTS ARE PRESENT IN MINDS PREPARED FOR INCEPTION ATTACKS. NOT EVERY SUBCONSCIOUS PERSON ATTACKS YOU
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:20:42 No.10248734
There is no definitive answer about the end. You can argue all you want about it but it'll go nowhere. The whole goddamn point is that it's uncertain.

Why is this so hard to accept?
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:20:51 No.10248741
    >>10248628

No, you're not alone. It kind of annoys me though when people tell me it was so confusing though, just because it makes me realize that anything with more than one variable is generally too much for hollywood audiences. Not to say I'm some genius either, but based on the reviews of this movie I'd say that's what seems to get it most of its praise, I just found the whole idea of a literal 'dream team' a bit preposterous for my tastes. And for those of you who might respond "why'd you bother seeing it then you faggot" I was given free premiere tickets so it was really an easy choice.

*Every* projection attacks you when they realize there's an invader, that's what subconscious means, brah.

See: 1) opening dream. Riot rips Nash apart. 2) Ariadne's first dream share. Crowd picks on her, Mal stabs her. 3) Fisher's dream. Everybody stares, 'hotel security' gives chase.

    hurp durp
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:23:23 No.10248784
    >>10248628

I didn't think it was confusing except at the very beginning when there was absolutely no explanation of what was going on. Personally, what I think was so great about the movie was that it managed to have such a complex plot _without_ being confusing. Making something complicated and confusing is easy; making something complicated and explaining it well enough that a general audience can follow along and enjoy it is hard.

    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:25:04 No.10248814
    >>10248758

Making the top wobble a little bit was the only way Nolan could make it uncertain. If it hadn't wobbled the audience would have taken that to mean that he was dreaming.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:25:15 No.10248820

The movie cut out right before the top would naturally begin to fall, just to leave you with that question.

I understand that, and I understand that it's meant to be uncertain and there is no right answer. Literally, there's equal evidence supporting either. I've still got my hunches, though.

That was the only thing in the entire movie that I found somewhat confusing. I got the gist of what was going on about a minute after that whole sequence. Then, obviously, everything gets explained.

Actually, I don't really see what the original dream was about. "Cobol Engineering hires Arthur, Cobb and Nash to steal information from Saito"?

    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)00:37:50 No.10249071
    >>10248928

I intend to watch it again to see if I can get a better idea of what exactly was going on there, but that seemed to be the gist of it. If I recall correctly, it was a two-level dream - there was the one at the party or whatever where Cobb tried to break into Saito's safe, and then when they woke up from that there was the one in the office where Saito broke out by feeling the carpet. Saito knew what was up and they didn't get anything out of him, but Cobb and Arthur managed to escape until that other guy sold them out.

but, you see, you never know where you came from when you're in a dream. but you remember the entire dream.

the whole movie is a dream
