By scaring people into believing their children can be next they will get the most views. If it makes you eurofags feel any better, I'm an American and I'm disgusted by the ads too. Early morning news shows like that are always overfilled with ads because people don't actually sit down and watch them. Generally you'd turn the TV on for background noise while making breakfast, and you'd just occasionally glance up. They're popular for advertisers because of this - a lot of people turn the TVs on in the morning to get a check on weather and traffic and such, and advertisers think that "high energy" ads and the like will catch people's attention.

If you compare it to primetime TV, which is fiercely contested, there's a lot fewer ads because the stations actually have to try to get people to watch them. Cable channels in general also typically feature even fewer ads, since they get revenue directly from the user.

I must disagree on you with that, cable channels are getting more ads too. Even worse, they're doing advanced technology to get even more ads by removing duplicate frames of a program. I can notice because of the very brief "stop" of the program picture.
