The same applies to the ID system: samefagging may be generally viewed as harmful to the quality of a board, however a board with the speed and predominant mentality of /b/ that is not the case.
On /b/, when one person sages, you immediately get everyone else jumping on the bandwagon of saging/ignoring regardless of the content of the thread. In the past, you were able to samefag away the retarded sheep mentality, but this is no longer the case.
In addition, the fact that, even for the duration of a thread, IDs give people identities has already fucked over many a great thread in the general shitbowl that is /b/.

For the record, it happens every time you try to self bump a thread.
My entire Transformice tribe is from /b/ and we used to post and self bump threads all the time to invite people to play in a private room with us, just for fun. Now the entire /b/ community of the game is rotting away all because moot is a faggot.
For another instance, I tried to introduce /b/ to board game online, to continue the tradition of spreading flash games and /v/'s flavors of the month across the entire imageboards. Hardly any players joined and those that did ragequit in a single-digit number of turns. Guess fucking why?
Lastly, those two are only single examples of the countless times threads I posted have died, all because they ended up on page 8 almost instantly and were universally ignored because they weren't the furry fap gauntlet roll threads you mentioned or whatever other shit the faggots were used to.
To make matters worse, this treatment of /b/ along with "lol irrelevant", and combined with "no off-topic discussion or fun allowed on other boards" is slowly driving all us fags who just want random topics to post about out.
I repeat, 4chan was never meant to be a normal strict discussion forum so don't fucking try to turn it into one.
