Last weekend we conducted 4chan PMQ/Q&A #3, with 1400 people contributing 4500 posts over 22 hours. I managed to spend the better part of a day answering as many questions as possible—thread here.
Since loading large threads can be a bit of a pain on slower computers, you can also see my replies from the /q/ index (hover over the "Administrator Replies" quotelinks).

Thanks to everyone who asked questions and participated!

Can moot please give an explanation about why he used to allow shitposting on /sp/? Until he does nobody is going to take the mods seriously.
>>
>2011
Moot has changed opinions before.

Also, he explained why before, and people didn't take the mods seriously before, and they didn't afterward.
>>
>>605244
So point is to disregard everything moot says because he is going to change his mind anyway?

Got it.
>>
>>605244
also
>he explained why before
what was his explanation?

It's called a joke.

No. He actually let /sp/ do whatever they want. And if it actually was a joke that just means we can't take moot seriosuly and have no reason to respect the mods
>>
>>605265
>moot isn't allowed to be funny, only serious 100% of the time!!!!!1
>>
>>605267
There is a difference between publicly banning a mod for trying to moderate a board and being funny you autist
>>
>stickies Mars and snackposting thread
>week later no fun allowed
Makes sense...
>>
>>605265

People on 4chan respect mods?

Anyways, Moot clearly realized it was a retarded idea when 75% of /sp/'s frontpage at any given time was /b/-tier shit, and he backpedaled. Pretty simple.
>>
>>605239 (OP)
>Until he does nobody is going to take the mods seriously.
I take mods seriously. Liar.
Back to the tea party.
>>
>>605305

It's hard to take them seriously when they're inconsistent or just plain absurd.

I got a ban for spamming Torres (after raffi torres scored a goal) once in the gamethread it happened in. I mean the board is mostly bad now regardless of whether or not it has offtopic posting. Generals look like forums, /spvg/ just take up space, and most people get their ruseman fix making people mad with poorly disguised troll threads (your _ mvp ref.jpg, lol derrick rose a shit, seahawks49ersscore.jpg).

I mean there has to be a change in attitude or some sort of encouragement of a better /sp/.
>>
>>605356
>I got a ban for spamming Torres
>I got a ban for spamming
>spamming

Yeah, you should have been. That's kinda what happens when you break the rules.
>>
>>605398

I mean yeah I broke the rules but it was petty and approriate given the outcome in the gamethread. I mean same thing can be said for GETTING BLOWN THE FUCK OUT every fucking NBA gamethread. As I said one post of TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES TORRES in a sea of them. I understand banning those who went to other threads to disrupt the conversation, but mine was fined right where it was.

Lighten up.

this and >>605398 is a symptom of this cancerous shit where people try to push rules on boards they've never been to for god knows what reason, and moot listens to them because /q/ is supposedly 4chan's "spokesboard". Which it's not.
>>
moot just needs to stop drinking.
>>
>>605239 (OP)
That seems to be moot's usual tactic. Whenever the shitposters try to fight the moderation with escalated spam and other displays of power, encourage them to run wild for a day or two, silently organize a better moderation, and then gradually purge their shit when they get bored, tired and disorganized.

It kinda works.

This.

That faggot Mod deleted 5 of my storm bowl threads one after the other. He did not get it.
>>
>>606256

I think a lot of people like Event Bowls and occasional power rank.

I mean where else do people talk weather? I mean there was one thread talking about jobs that was about as tame as I could imagine, they deleted that and left a feel thread up.
>>
>>606291

The only other place to discuss current events as they happen is /b/, and there is absolutely no discussion in those threads.
>>
/sp/ used to be the best board on 4chan now it is a subredditchan thing with just generals.

It's pathetic and really I don't think I can come here anymore if this keeps up, I am just not being entertained.
>>
>>606306
>entertained

The new 4chan is not about entertainment. It's about your money.
>>
>>606306

Just to add to this; not being able to banter with the lads like ANY sports radio show you've ever listened to is just nonsense to me.
>>
>>606310

Well, they already got that so I guess I lost "the game" or whatever that dumb B kiddy meme is.

I just want to pick up my phone when I am winding down for the night and laugh at a few things the /sp/ bros are saying. I haven't gotten that in a month or more.
>>
The janitors on /sp/ are fucking dicks. I posted a legit sports thread yesterday but used a picture of Alison Brie (fully clothed) as the image. The janitor deleted the file.

They've gotten completely ridiculous with the stuff they crack down on.

I'm a fag, dick is what I like. Also it's so sexist to assume none of the mods have vags.

According to moot there are no female mods, so it actually is a total sausagefest.

>>
>>606369

No I don't want to attack you. I just want to know where this opinion is coming from. It's helpful to see if you are at least a long time /sp/ user or been aware of the history of 4chan.

Clearly its a homosexual and sorry about the fag thing. I thought you were insulting yourself.
>>
>>606372

I don't want feel threads. I just have a problem with moderation having to decided whether or not something fits with their vision of the site. For a long time users always had a good deal of control for the site. Now that control has shifted and I'm not entirely sure how its been making the site better.

It really hasn't worked for /sp/. Gamethreads are predictable, troll sports threads are the only ones that get replies, and don't get me started on generals.
>>
>>606374
>I just want to know where this opinion is coming from.
It's from the rules.

No board needs to be spammed with anything. It's pointless, useless, and by definition unoriginal.
>>
>>606374
>>606376
I don't think he's ever browsed /sp/
>>
>>606376

That's not an opinion. I mean I know no ones going to have my back since most yuros that know about Torres are asleep, but isn't it a little draconian to not let the user dictate what they want to do? Even if it is spam TORRES over and over. Do you even know what game it was?

I mean most fireworks in America are illegal but people still blow shit it up cause its fun.
>>
>>606376
But you don't understand...Messi spam made /sp/ /sp/ instead of some souless board filled with general threads
>>
>>606378
>isn't it a little draconian to not let the user dictate what they want to do?
No. Draconian means "great severity" so you can't be a little draconian, but for the sake of argument I will assume you mean that it is an oppressive rule.

It is not oppressive either though, every society is allowed to dictate some manner of respectful behavior. (Like wearing clothes, for example.)

When you spam you drive an uninformative thread to the top of the queue over and over again. You add nothing of value, and anything of value is pushed further towards the end, obscurity.

>>606377
Irrelevant. Attack the argument, not the person.

>>606379
I think moots challenge still stands, you can not make a rule that fairly dictates what is "uninformative but part of culture" from what is "uninformative and NOT part of culture". (Or "soul" to use your wording.)
>>
>>605251
Why does moot have to be superhuman.

Normal people change their minds sometimes.

Moot changes his mind too.

Would you say to a friend: "Well, you changed your mind once, so I'll disregard everything you say from now on."
>>
>>606384
I would call you a flake
>>
>>606383

Yeah again spam like that has only happened a few times every year. Its not like its a major issue that attacks /sp/. I guarantee you that whenever MESSI or TORRES scores again, that spam will occur with no repercussions to those who do it.

Again it is pretty relevant whether or not you do browse the board because the content and user differ from board to board.

This is why I'm no /q/ fan, someone who has no idea of the issues that plague the board can have a say in the boards issues. If I have only been on 4chan for 3 days and base its users and culture off the rules, then that makes me ignorant. I can't talk about /tv/'s problems cause I don't use that board and have never visited it frequently.
>>
>>606383
So someone who doesn't even browse the board knows best for that community?
>>
>>606388
>Again it is pretty relevant whether or not you do browse the board because the content and user differ from board to board.
Ad hominem. You haven't proved that it IS content.

>Yeah again spam like that has only happened a few times every year.
Avoiding the question. "Not happening a lot" is not a justification for when it does happen.

>This is why I'm no /q/ fan, someone who has no idea of the issues that plague the board can have a say in the boards issues.
If you can't justify to those of us who are unbiased, you aren't making good rules.
>>
>>606395
And you know what is best for /sp/ why?
>>
>>606395

There really isn't a point discussing with you since you have no idea how /sp/ works or why they highly revere those players. The spamming of their name is done in the excitement of what had happened. Torres single handedly put Chelsea ahead to win the Champions League. Now, if you don't know about /sp/ or how it handles sporting events, you won't find it funny, you won't find it any bit intriguing, and you really won't care.

Explaining to you, an unbiased non user, is essentially pointless because you don't care whether or not a large base of users care for their culture. People who don't care about where lel came from but continue to use it, people use WHY pictures across 4chan without caring where it came from, and costanza was a big part of /sp/. However they still find it amusing, useful, or easy to translate because people who use 4chan will understand it and appreciate it.
>>
>>606400

sorry torres scored in the semi and beat a strong barca team

my apologies divegrass fans
>>
>>606397
>And you know what is best for /sp/ why?
I'm not sure what power you think I have. I'm sharing an opinion, not banning people.

>>606400
>People who don't care about where lel came from but continue to use it, people use WHY pictures across 4chan without caring where it came from, and costanza was a big part of /sp/. However they still find it amusing, useful, or easy to translate because people who use 4chan will understand it and appreciate it.
So you think it's value is in communication? All you had to do was say that.

I agree to a certain extent, but can you understand why many people find cliches annoying? You shouldn't just say the same thing, you should add value to it. Make new macros, point out funny new sayings, etc.

NEW is the motto of 4chan. Consider the format, anything that is old is simply deleted from the end of a queue.

>The spamming of their name is done in the excitement of what had happened.
You can see how this is annoying to right? I mean you would get upset if someone was talking in a theater, right? This is basically the same thing, people come to the board, completely oblivious to soccer, and the board is spammed with soccer.

(I'm just going to ignore the ad hominem, I feel like you guys know it is useless but are just doing it anyways.)
>>
>>606417
I just think you are wasting your time and ours by commenting on /sp/ when you don't know how /sp/ is
>>
>>606423

This.

Besides lel and costanza was a result of offtopic posting. WHY was barely sports related. Sad to say that the least topic related things tend to be the most wide spread.

Its a part of /sp/ and since you (sorry ad hominem, begging the question, strawman, double standard, dont care) don't know then I'm sorry.
>>
>>606423
>I just think you are wasting your time and ours by commenting on /sp/ when you don't know how /sp/ is
Then I'm not sure thinking is your strongest suit.
It should be common knowledge that you don't have to be a thief to know that stealing is wrong.

>>606432
Then don't come to /q/ expecting sympathy. Keep in mind the mods are, most likely, uninterested in your "culture" too. If you can't convince someone else who is unbiased, what chance do you have of convincing them?
>>
>>606435
But nobody is stealing...I think you are full of yourself and don't have any idea what you are talking about
>>
>>606435

you ad hominem'd the fuck out of that guy

Yeah you're definitely correct in that sense, but its muh opinion versus the rules. In most cases, the rules win out unless they change.
>>
>>606437
???
It's an analogy... I wasn't trying to say anyone was stealing. I just mean that I don't have to be part of your "culture" to tell you that your "culture" isn't good.

>>606438
>you ad hominem'd the fuck out of that guy
No, I straight up insulted him. He's spamming the same line over and over again.

There comes a time when all men must fight.

>Yeah you're definitely correct in that sense, but its muh opinion versus the rules. In most cases, the rules win out unless they change.
You lost me there, don't know who/what you are referring to.
>>
>>606443
>I don't have to be part of your "culture" to tell you that your "culture" isn't good.
good to whom?
>>
>>606443

If I can't change some guys mind about the content of a board being dictated by the user, what chance do I have against a guy whose job it is to spend all day and night stopping poop posters. I agree with you on that

>there comes a time when all men must fight

lol nigga u lame as fuk
>>
>>606447
>good to whom?
Good isn't a relative term.

>>606448

>>
>>606449
then why did you use it in that context? you don't know anything about whether /sp/ culture is good or not

>>
>>606471

The moderation is killing /sp/.

Yesterday with the tornado outbreak it gave me the idea to make a thread about natural disasters hitting sporting events. We were discussing the SEC basketball tournament a few years ago, the 1989 World Series (earthquake) and there was a guy talking about being at a Royals game that got evacuated.

So naturally the thread gets deleted as shitposting.

And while we're at it, the actual Tornado Bowls need to stay. That's a staple on /sp/ going back several years. Stop with the nazi bullshit mod, at least understand /sp/ a little.
>>
because he can?
>>
>>606736
Seems like the mods want to take this in a more appealing direction.

Have you considered making your own forum?
>>
moot decided around mid-2012 that he wanted to sell 4chan so he's been devoting efforts to cleaning up the chaos and make the site a place of greater conformity that would appeal more to buyers.
It wasn't so much that he allowed shitposting before but that he didn't devote any effort to the board and just left it to its own devices.
>>
>>606950
[citation needed]
>>
Speaking as a /sp/artan, I'm glad about the new moderation. It's been needed since 2010. I can't tell you how many times I've seen ridiculous feel threads and "game" threads disguised as off topic BS. There was (and sometimes still is) pedo threads there. Sick of seeing them. Keep that shit up.
>>
>>606417
>I agree to a certain extent, but can you understand why many people find cliches annoying? You shouldn't just say the same thing, you should add value to it. Make new macros, point out funny new sayings, etc.

And /sp/ does come up with new things. All the time. That's the beauty of sports; something is always happening, something is always new. We have the new and we have the old. Just because we carry on with old stuff doesn't mean we aren't having new things, and the new things aren't putting an end to the old.
>>
>>606974

The Pedo threads are 100% protected by the mods. I literally got banned for bitching about them.
