Forgive my seeming newfaggotry, but I've only lurked on /v/ once and have never understood why the community is so shitty. By shitty, I mean as in why they love delving so much into shitposting and trolling instead of actually discussing video games and all that shit /v/ "was supposed to be about". I'm guessing it's because the releases are so far and in-between. As with /a/, you have a release every week but with /v/ it's once and then it turns into a circlejerk. Combined with the massive normal infestation from sites like Reddit this sounds like a deadly combo. If you browse /a/, just imagine this already terrible userbase combined with the fact that it would only be anime movies being released.

Two primary factors have led to /v/ becoming as shitty as it is.

1. Traffic. Everybody plays video games these days, so naturally on a site based around interest, lots of people are going to gravitate towards the section for video game discussion.

2. Years of neglect with next to no effective moderation. This allowed things such as off topic posting under the guise of "board culture" and other kinds of shitposting to take root.

If you really have a problem with it actually try discussing a topic: if no one responds legitimately then tough luck, no one wants to discuss your topic at that particular moment in time; if it's a troll / flame post just push the little [-] button near the side of the post to hide it (I know at least 4chan x also hides the responses to the posts that link to the hidden post, removing usually a lot of garbage posts).

Your best bet for changing /v/ is to post sincerely and hope that others follow suit.

What /v/ needs is for the rule about tertiary video game discussion being banned to come back, and to actually be enforced this time.

/v/ should be about video games and not Doritos, other websites, or feminism.

Neo-/v/ is just the new name for "Summer" when it's not Summer which is pretty much the name for something that you disagree with.

In a week, kids will be crying Summer untill late September and by then, /v/ will come up with a new thread.

/v/ has actually IMPROVED over the last year. Seriously. Dubs were the main annoying part, and that shit's gone now, thank goodness.
