The next 4chan Q&A/PMQ will be held on /q/ at 8:00PM ET on Sunday, May 12th.

I'll be spending the night answering questions/listening to feedback this coming Sunday. Don't know what a PMQ is? It's detailed towards the end of this news post.
Simply, it's the opportunity to ask me any questions you'd like, provide feedback, complain, et cetera until I fall asleep or jump off a bridge.

If you can't make it Sunday night and have a question/comment, feel free to send it to moot@4chan.org or on AIM at MOOTCHAT.

4chan Pass Sale ends in 24 hours

Can we define the Neo-/v/ to assist mods in banning shitposting on /v/? Or to better help the community police itself?

I say /q/ puts together a list.

m00t, dunno if you allow mods to ban for posting stupid shit anymore (insert Snacks joke here), but if there ever was a time to do it, now is that time. I know that you put out the vidya-related tier list, but we need something more refined.

bump for a cure

>Neo-/v/
youre part of the problem
fuck off
>>
Fuck off with this neo-/v/ shit. Stop using neo-/v/ for shit you don't like, sheep.

P.S this topic is neo-/q/
>>
as a recent escapee from /b/ I am having a hard time finding a board that doesn't SUCK BALLS
>>
>>585274
simple,never go to /v/

is /b/ 0.2 (yes,that way)
>>
first ban anyone using the word 'vidya' those faggots are only here for epic maymays.
>>
>>585281

neo /v/ is nothing new
>>
>>585375
Ah, no he didn't. "Vidya Games" was how Hank Hill pronounced it (among other cartoon characters of Southern types like Early Cuyler from Squidbillies).
>>
>>585386
Not even Hank Hill coined it first.

Close, though.
>>
>>585389
At any rate, it's southern colloquial dialect. I don't know who actually used it first. I doubt anyone really does.
>>
>>585375
lol
>I've been here all le summer!

no he fucking didn't a /b/uttfuck came into /v/
>hai moot, can u name the board 'vidya' thainks! Time to go post my favorite unfunny advice dog parody.

Moot named it Vidya, and /b/tards came in cause of the silly name XD.

Btw isn't moot the person who 1 week says that board culture is fucking amazing and shouldn't stop, then the next week it's fucking awful and needs to die, then back to step 1.
>>
>>585404
its always been that way though, people are introduced to 4chan by a friend who says "hey I found this crazy website come check it out" and shows them /b/

after a while they get tired of the endless reposting and say hmm I wonder if these other boards are interesting...hey video games, I like video games, or hey anime I like anime.

theres a reason /a/ and /v/ have the most /b/ shit
>>
>>585404
That's shitposting right there, friend.
>>
>>585274
Stay on /b/
>>
>>585389

The guy from Beavis & Butthead on whom the Hank Hill character was largely based?
Anyhoo to be on topic, I don't think its such a good idea for Moot to be giving "official" definitions to loaded buzzwords. Just gives people even more excuse to write one-word responses instead of intelligent rebuttals. We want to be encouraging the users to put *more* thought into their posts, not less. What you have displayed in your OP picture already has a term, called "ironic shitposting" or more succinctly just "shitposting".
>>
>>585428
Holy shit someone who gets the incredibly simple nature of 4chan posters? this is a first.
>>
>Can we define the Neo-/v/
ok.
>Neo /v/
>noun
>SOMETHING I DONT LIKE WITH THE BOARD SO ILL JUST SPOUT NEO /V/ LIKE SOME FAGGOT OVER AND OVER
Sound good?

What the hell is a "neo /v/"? Is it /v/'s term for newfags or something?
>>
>>586636
It's a phrase /v/ spouts off whenever they see a thread or post they don't like, which is quite often.
>>
>>586636
Kill yourself weeaboo. You have been fuck you moot.
>>
>>586562
>>586636
It's a /jp/ term that somehow spread to other boards. Any post with "neo-[insert letter]" in it should be immediately disregarded, for the poster most like has nothing of any value to say.
>>
>>586562
I just call "collective shitposting" simply "Neo-/v/", because it's already stuck with the board culture.
>>
Forgive my seeming newfaggotry, but I've only lurked on /v/ once and have never understood why the community is so shitty. By shitty, I mean as in why they love delving so much into shitposting and trolling instead of actually discussing video games and all that shit /v/ "was supposed to be about". I need a babby's explanation, because I always see "go back 2 /v/", "/v/ shitposters pls", etc.
>>
>>586665
Funny how the "weeaboos" have the best boards on the site while /v/ is easily described in the OP image.
>>
>>586665
Jeez, I was just asking what this thread was about. No reason to get hostile.
>>
>>586709
I'm guessing it's because the releases are so far and in-between. As with /a/, you have a release every week but with /v/ it's once and then it turns into a circlejerk. Combined with the massive normal infestation from sites like Reddit this sounds like a deadly combo. If you browse /a/, just imagine this already terrible userbase combined with the fact that it would only be anime movies being released.
>>
>>586709

Two primary factors have led to /v/ becoming as shitty as it is.

1. Traffic. Everybody plays video games these days, so naturally on a site based around interest, lots of people are going to gravitate towards the section for video game discussion.

2. Years of neglect with next to no effective moderation. This allowed things such as off topic posting under the guise of "board culture" and other kinds of shitposting to take root.

Happyman = Innocent /v/ users
Happy Factory = /v/
Little King John = Neo-/v/, /vg/, /b/, summerfags, ponyfags, chanology, tripfans, femenism, newfags, gaiafags, leddit, and so on.

If you really have a problem with it actually try discussing a topic: if no one responds legitimately then tough luck, no one wants to discuss your topic at that particular moment in time; if it's a troll / flame post just push the little [-] button near the side of the post to hide it (I know at least 4chan x also hides the responses to the posts that link to the hidden post, removing usually a lot of garbage posts).

Your best bet for changing /v/ is to post sincerely and hope that others follow suit.
>>
What /v/ needs is for the rule about tertiary video game discussion being banned to come back, and to actually be enforced this time.

/v/ should be about video games and not Doritos, other websites, or feminism.
>>
>>585194 (OP)

Neo-/v/ is just the new name for "Summer" when it's not Summer which is pretty much the name for something that you disagree with.

In a week, kids will be crying Summer untill late September and by then, /v/ will come up with a new thread.
>>
/v/ has actually IMPROVED over the last year. Seriously. Dubs were the main annoying part, and that shit's gone now, thank goodness.

/v/ is fine. Quality vidya related thread everywhere, and the occasional college thread, too.
>>
looks like/s4s/ at work
>>
>>586904
This summer will be Neo-Summer.
>>
>>586865
The reason why /v/ is shit as opposed to /tv/ and /a/ is that we don't have daily content to discuss like those other boards. There's usually only 2 or 3 games worth discussing each month. Once we've discussed them to death, what are we meant to do?
