Congratulations, moot.

You've finally done it. It's taken years, but finally you've done it: you've turned 4chan into Reddit 2.0.

4chan is dead. It's fucking trash. It's a no fun allowed zone. It's a super serious website where everything needs to be 100% politically correct, on topic, and serious. The website that prided itself on its users dictating its content is gone. The culture of the various boards is dead. The shrine of OC and hilarious content is long over.

4chan's best boards have all been killed by moderation and rulefags. Slowly over time. There has been a massive push for moderation on /sp/ that no one has wanted. This has been going on since 2011. But no matter how hard you tried, moot, the users of /sp/ spoke -- we didn't want your draconian, Reddit-style moderation. We won. You admitted it yourself (pic related). Over time, you got more janitors, and you enforced rules more strongly. 2012 was a breaking point. People didn't want the moderation that was being enforced but there was nothing we could do about it. /sp/ was fucked at this point. The rules attracted a large crowd from cancerous websites like Reddit, and in no time at all /sp/ became r/sport. "If it's not in a general, it's off topic." Go on the front page of /sp/ and all you see is various generals. A board with 10 pages worth of threads is reduced to about 8 different generals for various sports, taking up no more than two pages.

The funny thing, though -- these generals are hardly on topic. Most of them devolve into tripfag circle jerks, arguing, and just overall bullshit. No one enjoys it except the faggots who've come to /sp/ from Reddit. The people who who frequented /sp/ from its birth - late 2011 hate it. Most have left. Now all you've got is a website filled with a bunch of reddit faggots, Outlaws (who shit up /sp/ to try and show the mods that we don't want such strict moderation), and some Aussies who haven't entirely fallen to the plague that's killed /sp/.

Because everything is in a general now, there is no room for creativity. It's the same shit day-in, day-out. The days of awesome power ranking, friendly discussion, producing hilarious OC, and having a sports-bar styled website that everyone enjoys are gone. We used to have such a great place to discuss sports. When you wanted to talk about something, you started a thread, and sure as hell there would be a lot of participation. When there was nothing to talk about, people would head over to power ranking threads, space threads, Kornheiser, and various other off-topic threads. But you know what? These threads were fucking enjoyable, and everyone on /sp/ wanted them except for moot (clearly you've shown us you don't want this). These threads are where all of /sp/'s incredibly good content came from, and it's what made /sp/ a local name on 4chan. It's why /sp/ was known as the best board. Moderation fucked it all up.

On topic threads that have historically worked in a certain way have been destroyed, too. /cric/ threads have always had an amazing balance of on topic and friendly bants. This is because it goes with the sport of cricket. It's slow, so there isn't always something to talk about, so accordingly those participating in threads like to go a bit off topic, and it resulted in a thread with massive bro-culture between Aussies and Britbottles. There was a lot of great content produced, and a massive camaraderie formed between Australians and Brits. These threads were fucking amazing, and as a result the Ashes (cricket event) threads were massively hyped and everyone looked forward to them. However, earlier in the week the mod told us exactly how they were going to be run from now on. Half the thread was banned for 3 days because we got a bit off topic. Despite everyone in the thread condoning and enjoying the off-topic discussion, the moderator told us how we should run. This goes against 4chan's philosophy -- or, at least it's old philosophy.

/sp/ isn't the only board that went this way. This happened to most other boards. Every board had its own culture, and every board had fun in different ways. Every board (with the possible exception of a few, ie. more populated ones like /b/ and /v/) was able to self moderate, and the users were able to determine the content. Again, this is what made 4chan's boards so good. Yet, for some reason you've decided against that, moot. You've decided to change the way 4chan has operated for years and change what made 4chan good. Now the mods dictate what goes.

I'm going to be blunt: 4chan is awful now. It's a stale, washed-up website. No randomness, no fun, no new content, nothing. /s4s/ is a prime example of how shit the website has become. /s4s/ was supposed to be an April Fools joke, yet, when it was created you saw how amazing the website could be when people got together and were allowed to post what ever they wanted, where the users could dictate the content. Tell me, what was /s4s/'s topic? That's right, there wasn't one -- the users dictated it. And you know what? /s4s/ was good. Those first 12 or so hours were some of the most fun a lot of people have had on 4chan in a long time. And even you realised how good that board was, moot. It's why you kept it. Now, it's just like all the other boards, spouting overused content and forcing shitty memes. But I think it's a good example of how good a board can be if you let the users dictate its direction. I also think it's a good example of how far 4chan has fallen. The fact that you kept the board shows that you want the old 4chan back.
>>
So what's stopping you, moot? What's stopping you from bringing the old 4chan back? It can easily be done. Boards like /sp/ can easily be fixed by allowing the users to self moderate, not by having some faggot sit there 24/7 deleting what ever he feels shouldn't be there. Stopping generals would also be a great way to allowing actual sports discussion to flourish. The same goes for other boards as well. Let the users self moderate. Have the janitors delete pornography and NSFW content from the blue boards but let the users report the posts they don't want. If a thread has 3 reports, but 400 posts. Why delete it? It shows that a lot more people actually want the thread there. If an offtopic thread at 2 in the morning has 450 replies, why the fuck delete it? People obviously want it. Let the users self moderate like in the past. Let us dictate the flow of content on our respective boards. Don't let the janitors do it because they've destroyed the website. We've tried the harsh moderation and it's failed. It's done nothing but turn 4chan into reddit 2.0. No proper discussion, no fun, and no fresh content. The people who don't like it are shitting up the website as well by trying to show their distaste for the moderation. They do this by flooding boards with shitty lel and doge threads. Shit that doesn't belong here either.

So answer me this, moot. I beg you, just give us an answer. Why are you trying to destroy 4chan? When did 4chan become some super serious website? Are you trying to appeal to a larger audience so you can make money to turn a profit for the first time? If that's the case then just fucking let us donate so we can have our old website back. This can honestly not be something you want. You've been here since the start, man. You saw the glory days of 4chan. Why have you gone the other direction and destroyed that?

Nice response, faggot. We shouldn't have to leave. 4chan has operated in a certain way for years. We've all grown accustomed to it and we liked it that way. Newfags like you have no right to come here and change it by begging for faggot moderation like you have.

>>698383
No, I'm not a newfag. Anyone who's been on this website for more than 4 years will tell you that all boards have had their own culture. Culture =/= shitposting. Shitposting is what you have now, where faggots make doge threads to try and stick it to the mods. No one wants this. We just want our old boards back. You don't understand, though because you came here probably 2 years ago (max) and want 4chan to be the website you came from.

You've just shown that you don't know what board culture is. And the fact that you think it doesn't exist just shows you don't belong on 4chan in the first place.

>tfw no gf threads
These are shitposting threads started by faggots to spite moderators.

>power rankings threads
These have been used on /sp/ since the board's creation. Power ranking are semi-sports related because the power rankings started from sport.

>worldstar threads
Something the entire board wants (or wanted before /sp/ was flooded by rulefags and reddit faggots).

>feel threads
>saying this twice.
These are shitposting threads.

You're missing the point. 4chan is not some super serious website where we need to be 100% on topic. Let people go off topic a bit, let us have our fun. That's the entire point of this fucking website.

4chan is way better now, i only need to post with my trip up in the NFL general thread like once or twice and now EVERY NFL fan has seen my trip and knows that i am an oldfag, before i had to spam in every single NFL thread just to get fans of different teams to recognize me

>No, Generals hardly receive any moderation at all. Most of them are just filled with outlaws who go to them to shit them up. Generals shouldn't be there in the first place because they go against everything that an imageboard is.

THANK YOU anon for pointing this out.

Of all the problems, Generals are the worst. They lead to 9 blank fucking pages of no sports, so it'll be filled with shitposting since newcomers think they can only discuss in generals. So shitposting is amplified by 100x to fill the empty 9 pages since the mindset is that you can't talk about sports elsewhere outside of a general.
>>
I for one, am glad 4chan has died. I can finally go outside.
>>
>>698414
/sp/ was great for a while.
The problem is that at some point people started to think they could post anything on /sp/ and justify it under 'board culture.' It was making /sp/ into /b/ with the occasional sports thread. The mods then went out of control trying to fix things and accidentally fucked it up worse, but don't pretend it was so great before they intervened.

I'll pitch in with a thought.
/sp/ doesn't need to be 100% unmoderated, but there do need to be limits as to what moderators can do.
Rules to rule the rulers, if you will.
To put it plainly, let's try to leave as little to interpretation as possible, otherwise whatever's left fucks over us as users.

My request is simple.

Keep
>Power rankings and /sp/ culture; off topic banter included

Don't Keep
>Tripculture drama, as can be seen in all the active generals
>Spam
>Obviously illegal or unacceptable content like gore and shit (/b/-tier shit)

The trip culture drama is the worst, because the generals have sucked up serious discussion, and killed it off because too many people care about what Mauer's sex is. I believe that tripping to represent your team is acceptable, but the shit stops when people want to talk about how my farts smell. That's not remotely related to /sp/, sports, or our culture. It's essentially reverse avatarfagging, a banned activity, because people are doing nothing but giving discussion killing attention to someone for no good reason. I'm not saying we remove generals, I'm saying we remove tripcultures. I'm not advocating for forced anon either, we just need to make it a punishable offense to start and sustain this kind of behavior.
Finally, let us have our banter. It will always be there, and sports aren't always on for everyone, if someone wants to have a sports discussion that's not obscure, then there will be discussion. The only possible way those threads could sink is if someone starts spamming, which is unacceptable. Right now OC is all but halted thanks to the current state. Please consider my words, and get back to us, your users
-Anon

>>698428
>and no one else's on the entire board
Not true at all. The only people who like the generals are the people who have recently arrived here. The rigid discussion is what has taken all the fun and creativity out of /sp/. It's why the board hasn't produced anything good in a year, it's why there is very little sports discussion. It's why the board is in the state it's in.

You do realise there are 10 pages of threads for a reason, right? We don't need to condense ourselves into 1 and a half fucking pages of threads. If you want to talk about something, make a thread. That's how the board has operated for years.

>Unstructured discussion is fucking pointless
It's not unstructured and never was. You have no idea how the board ran in the past. If anything it was more structured.

>piece of relevant news
>make a thread
>discuss said news
>leave to a new thread

That's how the board used to work.

Off topic bullshit doesn't belong on any board ever, otherwise every board might as well become /b/ 2.0.

>>
>>698466
No one asked for more moderation. It was a very small group of people who recently discovered /sp/. There has always been a push for more moderation on /sp/. Because of it, retards resorted to spamming the board with shitty threads and that's what led people to cry on /q/. No one wanted what we have now. People wanted the shitty spam to stop and for us to go back to the way /sp/ used to be.

You're showing how little you know about the old 4chan. Little moderation led to board being great, not /b/ 2.0. Were you here for the start of /sp/ up until 2011? It was a great board. And it didn't resemble /b/ slightly.

>>698374

Agreed 100%, /sp/ used to be my place to read and post in great threads (sports or not) and I always had a lot of fun, as did everyone involved. I'm thinking Moot is trying to 'tone down' 4chan in a result to get more interest in selling the website. He's started working in ads and clearly doesn't seem to give a shit about the site anymore.

I completely understood the idea of passes, and I was actually happy to see him make back his money invested in maintaining the website all these years. Now though, everything has fucking changed. 4chan is sterile, the things that made 4chan a great place to spend your time are essentially gone.

Seriously, why the fuck do you want to moderate the shit out of boards when the vast majority of people liked them how they were? Reeks of trying to clean up the site for potential buyers.
>>
>>698476
I understand that you don't want to see /sp/ devolve into people smearing shit on the walls, but slow down. I posted earlier that /sp/ should have moderation, but we simply need to make sure that we have a list set out for the moderators to avoid poor interpretations. Unfortunately nobody has considered this sort of plan, understandably, because there may always be a case that's out of our expectations, but I think we need to make sure that the moderators clearly understand what is good and bad.

I will restate it.

Keep
>Power rankings and /sp/ culture
>Off topic banter

Don't Keep

>/b/-tier content such as gore, CP, personal army requests, shock threads, scat, and other revolting content
>Pornographic images (It's a blue board after all)

With this in mind, please tell me what you think of it.

>>
>>698529
I understand that it's hard to tell, but at times I think we've either got to ignore it or it flies, provided the banter does not follow the criteria listed. If the poster won't let us avoid it, then it falls under spamming. I have no problem at this point eliminating feels threads, because nothing is every really brought to the table from a post really stating ">TFW no gf". I think that threads discussing relationships should be qualified as off topic banter provided they are more specific and well introduced, like "Would you climb a mountain to make a bouquet of wildflowers for your girlfriend?", but if it's introduced with >TFW then the thread is doomed to wallow in shit.
Ultimately my point is simple. We need to give the moderators rules to follow so they don't have to rely on their own uneducated discretion, and also to prevent them from having free reign on /sp/. That is the biggest problem with 4chan as a whole is that moderators are virtually free to delete almost anything at their discretion, and we need to change that.

>>698526
Well if I've got it wrong, what is right? You tell me.
>>

>>
>The city of OP

I can report people who shitpost at and within a reasonable time it is dealt with. This has never happened in the history of 4chan. This is fucking great and something 4chan has needed forever.

OP is upset because he can't post whatever he wants on a sports board. That's it. That's all it fucking boils down to. Your refusal to take your off-topic posts elsewhere is pathetic.

Just admit you don't like sports that much. Just fucking admit it right now. You god damn cry babies don't like sports. Broken down to the simplest element, those who don't like /sp/ at this moment just don't like sports.
General threads don't gang up on you and force you to post in them like you pretend they do, the mods don't try to kill the board and make it stale like you pretend they do, the only fucking problem here is YOU. YOU DON'T FUCKING LIKE SPORTS.

I have been here since 2008, when the board moved at a slow crawl. I have to mention this because everytime you faggots go ''OH MY GOD YOU DIDN'T SEE THE EPIC BRO CULTURE ENJOYING YOUR FIRST LE MONTH ON LE 4CHAN REDDITOR!?!?". I've seen the 'bro culture' and it's nothing that can't be replicated on the appropriate boards. Everyone always pretended /sp/ was the best at discussing everything because muh power rankings. But it wasn't.
The air of superiority surrounding this 'bro culture' is obnoxious, I say this as someone who primarily browses /sp/. People from /sp/ would constantly shit talk other boards about being 'more knowledgeable' about their own subject matter, but it wasn't true. You are embarrassingly patriotic about a god damn board on 4chan.

Keep crying bitch nigga. You have to post sports on the sports board and if that bores you then too fucking bad faggot. Nothing is going to change, moot himself agrees that your fucking precious ''current event bowls'' and other equally over-hyped shit are fucking retarded. Get over it and quit acting like you are fighting for some revolution you fucking NERDS.

What else is there to do? Sit on /sp/ and endure the shit we've had to endure since early 2012? I'm tired of it. It's time moot actually sees how people other than /q/ faggots feel about their boards.

>>698587
Spam didn't occur at this magnitude. This is pure shitposting to spite the moderators. This doge shit is an example of what /sp/ has become. It's just a mix of shitty generals and spam. There is nothing else to /sp/.

>ameriblob /sp/
various generals + gamethreads

>Aus / latenight /sp/
NRL general, afl general, rug general, and insane spam like right now

>Euro /sp/
transfer general, /trb/ various other generals, soccer gamethreads
>>
>>698572
Well consider this. I believe acceptable banter and sports can coexist, there's a lot of space on our pages and I said it way back, a sports thread should usually get attention enough to keep it alive, and this is coming from someone who has used the Textegg General. It's slow, but it lives on. /sp/ is not so fast that you need replies going on at a high pace in order to keep a slow thread alive, not like /v/ or /b/.

Really? What exactly have you done?

Prior to passes, there was no way to contribute to the site. The best you could do was not block ads.

More traffic makes the site more troublesome to maintain. moot has even said he would like to see a decrease in traffic, which directly contradicts the notion he's trying to chase after the Reddit audience.
>>
>>698603
>He would Penn Jillette /pol/ if that was the case.

No he wouldn't, /pol/ brings in too much traffic and the previous 2 times he nuked /pol/'s former incarnations it was disasterous for the rest of the site.

Same reason why he can't nuke the hive of hate called /r9k/.

>Because everything is in a general now, there is no room for creativity. It's the same shit day-in, day-out. The days of awesome power ranking, friendly discussion, producing hilarious OC, and having a sports-bar styled website that everyone enjoys are gone
Is the implication here that power ranking threads weren't the same shit day-in, day-out? Because if so that's fucking hilarious.

You guys are so fucking mad over nothing. I've been enjoying /sp/ quite well, just as much as I used to before generals. In fact, even more because I actually can report shitposters now.

General threads a pretty cool, you can post the things related to your team or about the sport in general that are good enough to be read but aren't newsworthy enough to garner replies with a thread. I think that's pretty nice. Fans from other teams can interact with each other outside of gamethreads in a way that's goes beyond the ''how did you team do today [reaction image] [greentext] threads allowed.
You don't even have to post in them if you don't like them. Trying to end them is stupid. They are convenient and organized. It's nice to have I see plenty of discussion in them all the time, and if someone is shitposting in them I can just report them.
I enjoy general threads and I'm certaintly not a 'reddit faggot', I've never even been on reddit longer than 5 minutes because I hate the layout.

No one forces you to post in them. I don't understand why you guys keep harping on this. It's all mental. You can post anything sports related outside of general you like, the mods have even said AND ENCOURAGED this themselves.

/sp/ used to be great, and it still is great. Go with the flow, stop being so mad.
>>

No, this has always been a problem on /sp/. Generals have just made it worse. Also, see >>698416

Tripfags use generals to attention whore.

>Is the implication here that power ranking threads weren't the same shit day-in, day-out?
Power Rankings led to actual discussion and new content. Generals have done the opposite. They've also hindered sports discussion because when you make a thread to discuss something, you're told "there's already a general". You post it in a general and get 1 reply max. There's no proper discussion.

>No one forces you to post in them
I never said anyone did. They're stopping from starting other threads, though, because they get no participation.
>>
>>698687
I personally do not want the entire old board back, as I have said this WHOLE time, I just want rules for the moderators and janitors to abide by so that we may avoid situations where users are pitted in a disagreement against the mods. Leave nothing to interpretation and you have that. At the end of the day we may still be at odds, but that's why I call upon the law of the land, Moot, to see our problem through.
>>
>>698691
>you're told "there's already a general"

That does not happen.
>>
I'm on /sp/ since before the 2010 wc and I think we need nazi moderation, we were becoming like /v/.
If offtopic posters could keep their posts outside the sports thread it would be ok, but if I've to go through solid7 dumps and leejun, then I will take tight moderation to try to keep things in check for the future.

/sp/ is dead because, being summer, there is nothing to discuss, and generals have become a scapegoat for everything, exactly like reddit.

People act like you are banned for everything, when the truth is that you are banned for off-topic exactly like you should.

The moderator saying this doesn't change the fact that people on /sp/ don't post outside of generals anymore. The front page is always entirely generals. The first two pages are entirely generals, and everything after that is just old generals which are autosaging or threads which have gotten to attention.
>>
>>698693
Not all the time, but the rest of the time your thread is overlooked unless the subject is inflammatory in nature or a big shitstorm in the general sports world. Gone are the days I can post about the Yankees minor league system (I tried talking about Chien Ming Wang making a comeback earlier this year and my thread got five replies, literally). I have had the same experience with other threads. We're not lying when we say generals do have a vacuum effect.

>/hoc/ general when Kippers or Sean start posting
>>
>>698698

>The moderator saying this doesn't change the fact that people on /sp/ don't post outside of generals anymore.

That's a problem with the userbase though, not the mods. If people don't want to post outside of generals, there's nothing the mods can do to stop that other than breaking up generals which they don't want to do.
>>
>>698699
I can understand certain generals. /hoc/ is one of them, it's what started the whole wave of generals. /hoc/ and Australian sports need generals because there is not enough interest on /sp/ for threads to be made about every little thing. But NFL does not need a general, nor does NBA. We don't need majority of /sp/ posting in 2 or 3 threads.
>>
>>698703
Tripfags would turn into avatar users, proxy users for the unique flags, and use signatures.

Trips are the less painful way for the attentionwhores, and it would be good if /sp/ stopped giving attention to every awful troll just because he has a trip.
>>
>>698696
The fact that the moderator has likened is to "HURR" clearly proves the point we've been making. His post even affirms my statement that only big events can compete with generals on /sp/, save for the game threads which are a staple, obviously.
What do we do with the empty space?
It's not the mods that necessarily caused this, but they probably pushed us to it. I think the general complaint is that certain things like tripcultures are overlooked while the combination of it and generals cause a vacuum effect that obliterates all discussion outside of everything on a broad scale.
>>
>>698705
Agreed, as a poster in /txg/, it is needed at times.

I'm tempted to go onto /sp/ and let the mod know that he's not doing it right. This board is not his, and the moderator and janitor's job is to serve us and see to it that the board is of good quality to us. He's stewarding Moot's board which he made for us users in the first place.

>now go make more unfunny forced meme threads like doge
This is a shitty meme that started on Tumblr and one of the things I was talking about in the OP.
>>
>>698659
I can only speak about my experience from watching /jp/ burn to ashes but it happened exactly because of /q/.

People came on to /q/ and asked for moderation about /jp/. A mod came along and said what he thought /jp/ should be like. No more MMO threads unless they're from Japan, VNs in English belong on /vg/, LNs belong on /jp/, and niche Japanese interests like Trains ... Trains? Yeah, trains and 1 NEET lifestyle thread general.

So thereafter ALL THE NORMALFAG SHIT POSTERS quoted that goddamned mod's post any time any thread that was made disagreed with them, got them shut down, and turned /jp/ into normalfag shit literally overnight.

So yes, as I said before. The problem is /q/ because it allows equal voice from everyone including newfags who know nothing of board history.

I imagine the same thing happened to all the other boards as well once normalfags ran around with mod posts from /q/ as weapons to force all the old posters off their boards.
>>
>>698738
I feel for you, but that's why we're here now. I think there's a larger issue that needs to be confronted, and that is dealing with the position of moderators, and how they should best serve the userbase. Limit their powers to a user-approved rule / content system and then we have ourselves moderators who can better serve our users.
>>
>>698738

>The problem is /q/ because it allows equal voice from everyone including newfags who know nothing of board history.

That's true everywhere on the site. Anonymity means nobody knows how long you've been here.

/jp/ changed because moot didn't like what it was before, so he didn't care when the rules were revised and certain topics were purged. At best, /q/ acted as an place to gauge opinions on policy.

>>698742

>Limit their powers to a user-approved rule / content system and then we have ourselves moderators who can better serve our users.

Except this site is a mootocracy, and the mods are accountable only to him. It's not governed by the will of the users, and they aren't the ones who decide the rules.

If anything, that would be closer to what Reddit is like.
>>
>>698744
Then let Moot say it, not the people tasked with serving the entirety of the website. Moot owns the site, so he can do what he pleases with it, but unless Moot says otherwise, we are the ones who janitors and mods serve. They serve us all, Moot, and his users. We are the life of his website. This is why we should be given a say in what content is allowed on the boards. Moderators have zero ownership of the site and whose opinions as a user are no more than another one of us. Therefore, only Moot should have power to overturn what the users want, because he is the only one who can say "I want to attract 'x' users now". If a mod does that, he's outright going against Moot.

This thread proves how shitposting is changing (or changed). You can clearly sense it in the most common reply "I want to discuss mu-h-h-h board culture with my /b/ros but the faggy mods don't led me, please mootikis fire them".

Protip: mods are not being faggots/nazis/etc, mods just started to do their jobs. Exaggerated? in some cases but in overall doing a good job.

I regret it now because my god I didn't think it would be this bad
It sounded like a fun idea everyone playing together in a league and it still is a good idea but its regularly on the front page now and I feel terrible
I helped create a hated thread
I came to /sp/ in December and it was a glorious sight to see
I could talk about sports and have off topic discussion but, now its a SUPER SERIOUS board that MUST STAY ON TOPIC
On /b/ you don't get actual conversation
/b/ is literally porn and roll threads
/s4s/
Do people honestly think I'm going to fucking try and talk on /s4s/? Speaking of which WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE EVEN RULES THERE
And /r9k/
>tfw no gf
>how to make my dick bigger
>would you date a single mom
Every thread is either sex or tfw no gf. I counted two threads on the front page that weren't about sex or having gfs
People have different preferences. I doubt someone from /sci/ is going to have the same interests than from someone from /gd/. I doubt someone will have the same preferences if they go on /ck/ with someone from /fa/
People on /sp/ have similar interests just like all boards. Yesterday I saw someone on /q/ complaining about having his thread about Naruto being deleted on /a/. That's how moderation should be on all boards
The mods should be someone who has posted on the board and understand the culture.
>>
>>698811

Good post man except people will flip their shit because you said 'board culture'. I don't really care about your 2k threads but it is bizarre always seeing it on the front page.

I state again: Fuck you.

1) You go to such lengths, such enormous lengths, to moan and whine over the double penetration Reddit seems to have placed in your asshole. Do you really see the world as if Reddit took over? YOU are the cancer. You are no better than the thousands of morons that say ">>/v/" every time they see something objectionable.

2) Self moderation goes a long way, possibly longer than administrative moderation - I agree. But the need for rule enforcement stems from the massive userbase 4chan has. Back in the "good old days" you seem so anally wrecked over, when 4chan's audience was 1% of what it is now, we could easily weed out shit posts. This website grew.

THIS.
WEBSITE.
GREW.

On boards so large and fast (I think of /a/) it is inevitable that we get an influx of morons, newfags, and illiterates and spoonfeeders. Rule enforcement is a necessary evil just as much as elitist self-moderation.

3) Use the fucking report system and try and have a little more faith. That's about all you can do and that's all you're asked to do.

4 ie 1) Stop using Reddit as your scapegoat. Nobody takes you fucking seriously when you do that.
>>
This thread /q/ fags who don't use /sp/ telling /sp/ users the history of /sp/ and how to run it

You are arguing with people who don't use /sp/ and the mods have stated countless times on /q/ they don't care about /sp/ and want it gone
>>
>not using generals to shitpost
Post never get deleted and when they do it is only a jantior who shows up for 5 minutes deletes a 400+post thread down to 20 post. Everyone gets a 15min ban comes back and starts shitposting again. You can't talk about sports in this threads because everyone is shitposting about boy pussies and other gay shit. But you can't make a sports threads because it will get deleted
>>
>>698399
This. Just because you got away with being a shitty fucking poster for so long doesn't mean you're entitled to it.
>>
>>698845
Stop thinking you know what old /sp/ is like, because you have no idea what we're talking about.

Shitposting is what we see on /sp/ now. Retarded spam and forcing shitty memes like doge. Culture was being able to have 1 or 2 off topic threads among 20 active on topic threads. Doing so enhanced the board because everyone was bro with each other. It made for better sports discussion and a lot more fun.
>>
>>698849
>better sports discussion
>feel threads

You don't need feel threads to talk about sports. You don't need any other threads than sport threads if you want to talk about sport. If you want to talk about other things than sport, please visit the board which fits your desires.
>>
>>698856
You're just proving my point. Feels threads are an example of shitposting. They're not culture. You're getting the two woefully confused and yet you are trying to dictate how the board should be.
>>
>>698856
feels threads are shitposting and they was never on /sp/ they are only a recent thing that is happening due to the reaction of the mods

>If you want to talk about other things than sport, please visit the board which fits your desires.
I should add, discussing this on /sp/ is better because, like I said, everyone on /sp/ became really bro, which led to much better sports discussion. Culture enhances the board, it's what made /sp/ good. It's what makes /sp/ so much better than alternatives on the internet.
>>
>>698863
Which board should I visit? I don't want to spam dubs or porn, I don't want to spam about feels, I don't want to spam about jews or rap music.

I want to discuss sports on /sp/ and if the threads takes a little u-turn because there is no sports news or nothing is happening in the match so be it. We will always go back to sports when news brakes or something happens

I can't disuse sports now on /sp/ because generals are full of shitposting or someone will reply we already know talked about it earlier. Now is that what you want from a board?

If I was to make a thread about said news I would get 5 replies before the thread was deleted for not being in a general

I am here to talk about sports but you currently can't

Can you explain why I shouldn't post if I am already in a game thread. I hope you understand we have 2 games threads currently on /sp/ which sports that last longer then 15minutes of action

Or that a NFL game thread will post about the adverts shown or TV

have you ever been on /sp/?
>>
>>698873
Why can't everyone in the thread just have a conversation while waiting for something to happen? Why can we have ZERO fun outside of sports. Why is 4chan so super serious now?

>I propose that doge is culture. Can you prove me wrong?
Because it's not something the entire board wants / enjoys. It wasn't even created by the board nor is it unique to the board. It's a shitty year old meme stolen from tumblr that has been forced by a few faggots. Culture was what /sp/ had in the past, back before you knew about /sp/.
>>
>>698877
>have you ever been on /sp/?
That's the thing. Most of these faggots haven't and yet they think they know what's best for the board. And they spend most of their time on /q/ complaining about shitposting and getting shitposting and culture confused. They're also so vocal that moot thinks this is how most of 4chan feels. They also like to suck the mods' and janitors' dicks, which makes them feel good so they continue being harsh as fuck with moderation.
>>
>>698880
>Because it's not something the entire board wants / enjoys.

Do you speak for the whole board? Can you say that your "culture" is wanted by EVERYONE on /sp/? Seeing how much it's posted, I assume lot of people see it as "culture".
>>
>>698885
>Can you say that your "culture" is wanted by EVERYONE on /sp/
It was wanted by a very large majority back in 2008-2011. It was only after moot decided to enforce stricter moderation that the board attracted faggots like yourself. Now the same can't necessarily be said, but a large portion of people, definitely more than half, still want what we used to have.

>Seeing how much it's posted, I assume lot of people see it as "culture".
It's posted by the same faggot every time. You've probably never even been to /sp/ to see it, but there is one person who floods the board with literally hundreds of threads with a morph Costanza and doge with the OP saying nothing but "doge". It's just a shitty meme forced by about 10 different people. It is not in any way what we had in the past.
>>
>>698884
If you spend long enough on /q/ complaining that 4chan is not the way you want it MOOT will finally see it and act on it thinking multiple people want it that way sad really really that they pride themselves on killing 4chan

I think they all feel like if they act good on /q/ moot will make them mods

Less moderation the better.
>>
The literally tens of people who posted on /sp/ are now crying
>>
The thing is that nobody, besides a bunch of fucking autistic fucks who live in /q/ (and moot) actually wants the rules to be enforced to the letter.

The rules for a 4chan board ideally, look something like this:

1. You should mostly be talking about whatever the main topic of the board is.
2. Don't be a fucking faggot.

These are pretty much the only rules that most boards actually care about. They are enforced primarily by self-moderation, not "let's drown this thread we don't like in garbage" but more regular talking and shit. If there are too many random fucking "event bowls" on /sp/, people will start to agree, "there's too much of this dumb shit running around" and the number will decrease. This is how it's supposed to work, and it's how it actually does work in the absence of spammers and autistic fucks, which no amount of "self-moderation" can deal with. Moderation exists mostly to kick these fuckers out so that the rest of the board can continue as normal.

Solving the "there sure are a lot of fuckwits shitting up this board" problem by writing up a huge list of rules and then enforcing them down to the wire is just going to piss everyone the fuck off and won't solve the problem anyway, but for some reason 4chan administration thinks it will.
>>
>>698900
Fucking this. I hope you mods are reading this.
>>
Anybody is free to leave 4chan.
>>
>>698907
Well fucking OBVIOUSLY, moot could delete every board besides /b/ and /mlp/ and you would be free to leave rather than keep browsing the new 4chan. He would be totally entitled to do that since its website and he can do whatever the fuck he likes to it. It doesn't mean people can't or shouldn't complain about a change if they think that change is shit.
>>
>>698907
True, but that doesn't mean we can't have a discussion about the site and try to get it back to the way we used to have it.
>>
The only reason to why /sp/ wanted mods was because faggots like Misha would spam game threads with big sam images the same 5 images every day. he still is doing but gets banned within seconds.

We need mods to ban spammers
>>
>>698913
The same thing happens in /cric/ threads. Every thread gets bombarded by shemale spams. That's the type of shit mods need to delete. When the entire thread is talking about video games because nothing has happaned in the cricket in 3 hours, don't ban half the fucking thread (which the mod did).
>>
Okay, I just want to recap. People want the board entitled to the discussion of sports ONLY to be less moderated and more open towards off-topic threads. Why. Just why. That doesn't make any sense. Also, mourning about the moderation over and over again will lead newcomers to believe that really EVERYTHING can be blamed on the staff.

Just...why can't people grasp that a board with a certain topic needs to have threads that stick to just that topic only? I mean I feel sorry for the loss of you bro culture, really. But I just think it's reasonable to delete threads which are not sports related on a sports board. Bro culture must be moved to a new home.

Also, I don't really get why people blame the moderation on OC shortage. The users create OC, not the mods. And yes, you can create /sp/ OC without it being Off-Topic.
>>
>>698915
Because it kills all the fun on the board. If you don't frequent the board it's impossible to understand. But being 100% on topic kills any fun or creativity that the board could have. It makes discussing sports less enjoyable.

>Also, I don't really get why people blame the moderation on OC shortage. The users create OC, not the mods. And yes, you can create /sp/ OC without it being Off-Topic.
Majority of the memes on /sp/ that have actually lasted the test of time started in off topic threads not even slightly sports related.
>>
>>698916
I don't want to come off as rude or anything, but I still don't understand why people value fun more than actual on topic discussion of sports on a sports board. That's what a sports board is actually for.

And alright, I kinda get the OC aspect now. But there's still enough content that awaits to be created, which does pertain to sports.
>>
>>698918
Because this isn't some 100% super serious website. We come here to have fun, so when we discuss sports, we like to have fun doing so. It's why most gamethreads are just a clusterfuck of "BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER] BASED [PLAYER]" or spams of greentexting a player's name. Most threads are just people giving other teams shit, or talking shit about players. If people wanted 100% strict, rigid, insightful sports discussion they wouldn't go to /sp/. This is just a great place to have some fun with people who can appreciate it. And the strict moderation is killing that. It's not like we have better sports discussion now. In fact, you could argue that it's gotten worse. All we have now is fucking boring board that's the same shit day in day out. No variation, nothing new, no fun, nothing interesting. It's just plain garbage.
>>
You know what I was defending /sp/ culture but after scooby doxxing and know the fact he is leaving and never making another youtube video again because of faggots from /fit/ and /sp/ doxxing him

I support /q/ and the mods we need to ban everyone
>>
>>698922
Well, there certainly are people who think this website should be a serious place, because they want to actually discuss a topic and win some new insights on it.

I just think that the behavior of the staff is understandable, but yet I do also think it's shitty you lost some of your culture because that seems to have been the main source of OC on /sp/ over the years. I can't be 100% sure, whether some of the people exaggerate the state of the moderation on /sp/, but if they really have no respect whatsoever for a culture that has grown on that very board, they aren't good staff members.

As a conclusion I'm saying that most threads should really pertain to sports. But if there are some people in these threads posting a lil bro culture it should definitely be tolerated.
Was nice havin a little discussion with you, man.
>>
>>698922
Stop confusing on topic with rigid/serious.
>>
>>698925
>As a conclusion I'm saying that most threads should really pertain to sports. But if there are some people in these threads posting a lil bro culture it should definitely be tolerated.
That's the thing. In the past, during sports hours, threads were always on topic. When sports were over, people just like to enjoy some casual discussion with other /sp/artans, and you got a great mix of friendly discussion and sports discussion. Now all you have is 6 different generals on the front page, and then a bunch of shitty >tfw no gf and doge threads. These shitty threads are just started by faggots who are trying to spite the mods. That's the state of /sp/.

>>698926
Mods are enforcing strict and rigid. Spamming a player's name has gotten people banned. Calling a sport shit has gotten people banned. Saying a sport is irrelevant has gotten me banned multiple times. This is not how /sp/ should be. There is no need to be that fucking serious on the sports section of an anime imageboard.
>>
Hasn't 4chan always been shit, in one way or another? If anything, you should look at the deterioration of this place as a bit of a wake up call: It's time to find something else to do.
>>
>>698942
No. /sp/ was never actually shit. The only boards that have always been shit are board like /b/ that have a massive turnover of users and hundreds of thousands of people on it at one time.

>People want the board entitled to the discussion of sports ONLY to be less moderated and more open towards off-topic threads. Why. Just why. That doesn't make any sense.
Because you can have things you're not "entitled to." I'm not entitled to pizza but I can still eat it.

>Just...why can't people grasp that a board with a certain topic needs to have threads that stick to just that topic only?
Because doesn't need to have threads that stick to that topic only. Why can't you grasp that a year is 400 days?

>But I just think it's reasonable to delete threads which are not sports related on a sports board. Bro culture must be moved to a new home.
You keep using words like "must" and "needs" based on, as far as I can tell, absolutely fucking nothing.

>I don't want to come off as rude or anything, but I still don't understand why people value fun more than actual on topic discussion of sports on a sports board. That's what a sports board is actually for.
Because 4chan is more for "having fun" than being "on-topic" and nobody values on-topic for the sake of being on-topic. People value on-topic discussion because it's enjoyable.

But I like redditchan.

I wish for it to stay this way. Where I can complain to mods about things I don't like, and that complaint gets those things taken away. I never have to be exposed to anything that makes me uncomfortable anywhere. And the best part is that the moderation team shares my views, and so I barely have to take action to have all the bad things go away.

Discussion never has to have differing opinions, and so I don't have to listen to people who disagree with me. I don't have to see things on boards that I don't like. This is how 4chan should be. A harmonious grouping of people, strictly moderated to eliminate anything out of the ordinary or anything which might resemble "fun".

You can keep your shithole of the past, and I'll get my paradise of the now.

With the advent of the 4chan catalog feature, there's really no excuse for this retarded fucking moderation.

Sure it was annoying when off-topic stuff would take up the entire front page, however, now that we can easily see every thread regardless of where it is has rendered that complaint moot.

The only people who support moderation now are authoritarian faggots who fly into a rage any time they have to simply scroll over a thread
>>
I'd like to congratulate moot too on the spectacular job he's done "cleaning up" the site. I'm starting to think that the guys who made those comics about moot selling out weren't full of shit.
>>
>>699400
I think that's an overstatement. If we let things get out of hand, for the sake of argument, let's say, then sports are sinking an falling off the front. That's the opposite to what is going on now. The only thing on /sp/ is general sports talk- but it's being stifled with tripculture within the bigger generals. There is very little real sports discussion on /sp/ outside of gamethreads, which are virtually invincible to whatever is posted in them or whatever is going on outside of them.
I think we need to find a medium, because on either extreme you have less content and more shitposting.
>>
and this is why Dubs must be in every board and every board needs an ID system

samefagging and "le ribbit xD" are the biggest problems among 4chan and the only way to blast these would be with GET/dubs returning because GET/Dubs was a culture among 4chan[ALL THE 4CHAN]
an ID system like the one that /b/ and /q/ has would work for most boards, specially /tv/,/v/ and /int/

/sp/ is one of the few places where trip codes are acceptable, and the only place I can think of where using a trip code to post throughout the whole board is even conceivable. BRAVO 4chan!
>>
r.i.p. /sp/

>>
I have no idea what moot wants really. All I can see is the result of what he's put in place.

From his actions with ads, 4chan pass, increased mod and janitor activity, plus mod power overextending past the rules and deleting threads they simply don't like after being sage bombed to hell.

I can only assume he's trying to shift the entire website closer to a wider audience with increased traffic, and hopefully pull in more dosh, without any of the oldfags realizing.

The fact this thread exists shows that oldfags are taking notice. Looks like what a lot of oldfags considered 4chan and what moot now considers 4chan no longer align.

I don't think I'll be here much longer, so where the hell do I go?

I normally don't visit /sp/, but I popped in over there and the catalog has like eight doge threads. Not sure what to think. And there really are a lot of generals.

It was really bad at one point, and it still is. Read this post.

>>699114
The second quote is what you want to read under, it illustrates the problem and I think it makes the argument legitimate. /sp/ is not just a place we visit, it's like a home for us on the Internet, and we want a real community again. Weird analogy, but do you follow me?
>>
>>700161
yeah, It would be nice to have a word from a moderator. Or at least lock and sticky so that moot can at least read this thread when he's back from Croatia or where ever the fuck he went.

Paul, have you ever thought about you being a massive shitposter and pretty much the cancer of /sp/? Why are you going around with this miserable smear campaign on trips? People know you're just an autist, and whoever believes in you may as well require special needs.

Make yourself useful, and go find a job, you sad sack of shit. You'll be lucky to get one with the shitty degree you got at uni.
>>
I don't think 4chan can be saved. It has a public image and moot is obviously just trying to keep things neat so the public isn't trying to run his ass over. Back 4chan wasn't known about or people didn't want to come to 4chan. Now it is popular, and let's face it 4chan has a bad rep in the public eye. I don't know if moot imaged this site to get this main stream when it first started. my advice is to try finding a lesser known site.
>>
>>700349
You're very obviously a sustainer of tripculture, who has constantly stifled discussion within the generals, if you immediately presume that this is a smear campaign against trip codes when it has been specifically stated that /sp/ is one of the few places where trip codes have a purpose.

Took the words right out of my mouth, OP.

4chan was never about competent moderation. The charm of this place was it was up to the users to look after themselves instead of crying for a reassuring cuddle everytime they see something they don't like. And contrary to what the faggots ITT are saying, dubs are/were much more effective at self-moderation than "le epic xd" shitposting or dumping the latest furry from deviantart.

I remember there being a feature in-place where if a certain post recieved 15 reports it was automatically deleted without the need for mod intervention, but this was over-abused to shit on the bigger boards so it was removed. How about we re-implement this, but instead it's upped to 40 reports on the largest boards, i.e /b/, /v/, /sp/ etc., but stays at 15 on the relatively slower boards like /sci/, /lit/ and /ck/?

I used to enjoy coming here, but over-moderation is choking the life out of 4chan. Get your shit together moot.
>>
>>698414

>tfw no gf threads are started to spite janitors

Nah, I agreed with you on everything up to that point.
>>
>>700794

They was always one of them at like 2am, but now there are a whole lot more and at any time of the day
>>
>>700799

It's apart of /mu/ too. It's something you just kinda accept. I occasionally share a feel or two with them. It's nice. You wouldn't wanna share feels with /b/ or some shit. Sometimes I wonder if /3/, /wsg/, /po/ or /sci/ get shitposting threads.
>>
>>700794
Nah, orginially they may have been a thing that some people enjoyed, but of late (when we have 5 or 6 up at once), it's just the #outlaws trying to spite the mods and #freesp.

>>700738
Generals hinder sports discussion. We'd had much better discussion in the past before generals. The only sports which actually need generals are small sports, primarily Australian sports and possibly the NHL. Having specific threads for certain things makes it a lot more detailed discussion. Having it all clustered into one thread doesn't allow for proper discussion.

>>700768
Really?
>>
>370 replies
no mod or moot respond whatsoever

Seriously, old days are gone, board after board is becoming no fun allowed zone. And that is mostly because normal/newfags who can't just fucking lurk and ignore things they don't like.
Same pattern on multiple boards:
1) people enjoying things based on some kind of interest (for example sports)
2) mods nuking board because newfags/normalfags/whiners or simply muh strikt rule enforcement
3) spam, shitposts on board and battles on /q/ in response
4) no info from mods, continuing to nuke
5) board is now full of shitpost, tripfags and cirklejerk generals

[spoiler]inb4 some mod actually replies but without reading the thread[/spoiler]
>>
>>700846
Good post, Anon. That's happened to so many boards so far and it's a fucking shame to see it so.

/sp/ is kind of a bit of stages 3, 4, and 5. Most generals are tripfag circlejerks, American night time is just 100% /b/-tier shitposting and doge / lel spam, and actual Euro / American sports hours are just reddit-style moderated.

>inb4 some mod actually replies but without reading the thread
This. They always reply the same "we're not going to give you a license to shitpost." In the end they do the same thing as all the newfags who confuse shitposting with culture / fun with the rest of the people on the board.
>>
>>700846
you left out a step between 1 and 2:
1.5)people get bored talking about the board subject all the time and start filling the board up with off-topic

>/fit/ is still amazing
/fit/ has been my home board for about 4 years now, and the past year or two has been beyond garbage. Every notable personality is gone, none of the users are familiar with studies or training methods beyond those outlined in popular programs, the same tired threads make up almost all of the content, and they've even managed to ruin the life of a 52 year old man. It does nothing that isn't done far better by multiple other fitness boards.

This is a natural thing. It's like you get along with bunch of people because you share interest in something, and after you get to know eachother you begin to talk about everything else. Hangin' around with the buddies at the bar kind of thing.
You create kind of bonds with these people, create some sort of unwritten rules; and that thing is known as the board culture.

>>
It's pre-season mate, /sp/ is generally bad when there's no major sports on.

You have to accept that with every big event, such as the World Cup, the board gets more posters, and..

Boards with more posters = lower post quality
Boards with less posters = better post quality
>>
>>701017
Listen here assweed, been on /sp/ since 09, of course the argument will remain the same because there was a long period of time where 4chan had little to no moderation. Seldom visited boards like /sp/ were some of the few that didn't really have a problem with shitposting due to the low traffic and what not. However, what was always noticeable since 2010 was the presence of nationalist banter that was usually incited by australians. Since 2010 there was always a hint of off topic posting. Now, a board enjoys itself this way for 3 solid years. Then things get a little out of hand in the summer of 2012, and BOOM its all downhill from there.

Now, I'm not one for dubs, feels, RIP lyls, but I could deal with it. It gave the board character, it was 4chan, and it reminded me where I was. I wasn't on a Hockey Forums where being a dick could get me banned, I wasn't on ESPN where I have to use my facebook account, I was on /sp/. /sp/ was great at discussing everything. From car chases, to how Eli is the elite manning, and solid sevens. It was all fun. It was all great, but now what do I have to come here for? It's all the stuff I can get with any other place on the internet.

That's why I think people are upset. They lost something great. The flow of user dictated content was something that made 4chan unique. It made every board unique. With the increase in moderation, a lot of creativity has been stymied.

There was 4chan long before there was faux 4chan 'culture'. What you're referring to is some inane regurgitation of /b/ circa 2006.

The rules have always been there and you always promised to abide by them by clicking 'I accept', they are not draconic or strict or anything of the sort. If you are the type of person who has trouble making a thread without shitposting or doing it in the wrong board then maybe you're not the type of person who should be on 4chan in the first place.

I'm tired of retards thinking 4chan is a home for retards just because /b/ is left to simmer in it's own feces and that somehow makes it alright to post whatever the fuck we want in every other board.
>>
Yeah right, 4chan is much better now. No more shitty spam threads from butthurt anons, no more cp or other disgusting things, no more foot threads.

Now this same thing has to happen with other boards like /pol/ and all the boards i go to will be much better.
>>
I just don't get why the fuck /sp/ needs to be so tightly moderated once all the fucking sports are done for the day. I can understand deleting repetitive tfwnogf and threads of the like, but some of the late night banter had on /sp/ is awesome to take part in.

Anything 'culture' is started by the board itself and the people. Anything in /sp/ is started by people who browse the board. Anything in /sp/ is 'culture'. If you want some 'culture' gone, but some 'culture' to stay, then this is nothing but opinion.
"I want shitposting and moderation to stop!"
"I want to go off-topic to have fun!"
This was said about /v/ when the split happened. If it's anything related to video games, it stays. If it's WSHH threads, it's obviously not sports related. It just lasted because no moderator decided to delete them.

Of course mods aren't always right. Like the mod back then posted a pic of himself on /sp/ (hipster mod), and >my face when was a banned phrase.

He'd publicly ban anyone who made fun of him, and for the longest /sp/ hated him until moot did something about it. Then here we are at square one.
>>
>>701017

Holy shit, fuck you so hard mod

I've been banned literally hundreds of times since the Nazi regime started. I'm the one who does the 'shitposting gamethreads', I'm the one who was singlehandely responsible for the series of events that led to the snacks video sticky. I get banned probably 10 times a day, on a normal day.

And do you know why I do it?

BECAUSE I FUCKING LOVE /SP/

The board use to be my hands down favorite place on the internet. Nothing else even came close. It was a great time day in and day out. And now I spend damn near every minute of free time fighting to get it back.

The fact that OP has so many bans shows that he, like I, care about and know way more about /sp/ culture than you everwill.

You think that essay he wrote is invalidated? Not true? The fact he has so many bans just means he is legit, like I am.

Now fuck off already, and well done OP, keep fighting the good fight and speaking the truth, as will I.

That's the point. That's the type of thread that shouldn't be deleted but does by the faggot mods. Even threads like "what do you drink while watching the game?" get deleted. Same with shit like Sports bar power rankings, sports snacks power rankings etc. It's to the point where if it isn't a gamethread, a general, or something directly related to a team / athlete, it gets deleted. It's fucking retarded.

>Each year the Athenians were asked in the assembly whether they wished to hold an ostracism. In a section of the agora set off and suitably barriered, citizens scratched the name of a citizen they wished to expel on pottery sherds, and deposited them in urns. The presiding officials counted the ostraka submitted and sorted the names into separate piles. The person whose pile contained the most ostraka would be banished

So why can't we have something like this, but, like, for individual moderators?
>>
>>701017
And you address nothing in those posts beyond "fuck you, we're going to continue blanket enforcing". But of course, these rules change in an instant once wrestling is involved, don't they? I was told by a mod that they can stay on /sp/ because they were a part of the culture, despite "not being necessarily on-topic". Yet, any example of culture you don't like is exempt from such things. The annual spelling bee, for example, is just as much an event as wrestling. In fact, it's airing on ESPN may make it moreso.

I also find it funny that you hide behind remarks like ">rehashing the same arguments", as if many people feeling the same way diminishes an argument's validity.

And this is what I've come to expect from the new moderation on 4chan. Thanks, mod, you fucking retarded faggot. The least you could do is give a proper response to various posts in this thread, especially the ones from actual /sp/artans who've defined the culture of the board and explained which threads belong there.

Summarising an essay and 450 posts into one little post with 4 lines of green text is just a fucking joke.

From what I see it's mainly /tv/ /sp/ and /mlp/
>>
I've also said this before in a /q/ thread and it was never addressed, the moderators on 4chan aren't even moderators. They are enforcers. Moderators on great forums I've been on through the years didn't see every rule as black and white, but saw the grey area in them. They let the community dictate the direction, and let things that may be against the direct letter of the law slide if they saw that the community was enjoying it, and that it was not hurting the quality of the forum, but rather enhancing it. The "moderation" on 4chan has become follow the rules, no ifs ands or buts. The "mods" don't even care about the quality of each boards community, they just go around deleting every thread that they see as outside of the rules, regardless of community input. They enforce the rules, they don't moderate anything.

There are a lot of people, myself included, that come back every day and endure what 4chan has become through some seemingly false sense of hope that one day everything will change and things will go back to the glory days, when the culture was king, not the rules. I don't want to give up on 4chan but these mod responses that don't even try to address any of the real issues are making it really hard for me to believe that this site will ever be good again.
>>

if all of the people dissatisfied with /sp/ want, we should all go to sportschan and say fuck moot. sportschan is simple, theres sp and not sp, with the same group of guys, if only we can get everyone to go there.
>>
What makes it worse is there's /sp/ OC banners containing things that would get you banned from /sp/ now.
>>
Let me also make a call to the "outlaws", shitposting to express your dismay is not going to solve anything. Frankly, the shitposting gamethreads are an annoyance and come off like a child whining in a supermarket about not getting the kind of cereal he wants. Instead, make more threads like the ones I reference here, >>701662, that have concrete topics and have some form of direction. Try to restore the culture one bro-thread at a time.
>>
>>701743
I would love this, but we actually need people on board.

So lets go to /sp/ and advocate everyone who disagrees with the current state of affairs that we go to another board that already exists, isn't moderated, and will allow us to do what we wish to do. If 40k users from /sp/ migrate (moot says there are 250k users on sp each day) then we can be small enough to do what we want but big enough to have realistic discussion.

No, they really haven't, not like this at least. They only really became prevalent more around late 2010 and probably more toward 2011. And I only know that because that was the year I got suckered in to wasting a good 3-4 months of my life on that nonsense too. And I like soccer and have been here since the reboot.

On a somewhat related note (because fm became a lot more noticeable post world cup), every time there's a world event such world cup, olympics, etc, there is an influx of newfaggotry, from other boards that annoys me most of all. For example, /sp/ vs /a/ didn't exist until 2010 winter olympics, because those fruits migrated over for, get this, the figure skating. Before that it had always been /sp/ vs /mu/ for some reason.

At least /sp/hl made a forum to not keep ETERNAL JAVA HOCKEY on the front page at all times for no reason. I mean I don't understand why we need these threads. Are we really saving precious megabytes so "Tony Romo's Sloppy Hands" can tell "Marshon Lynche's Dick" how much money he saved at Best Buy?

moot is earning enough a month, he should get rid of you mongoloids and start to get some "real" mods, who are able to read and actually not only pretend to moderate, like you do.

They have their place on /sp/, just like the eventb owls, power rankings and occasional off topic discussions that are a part of the culture. We have 10 pages on /sp/. During peak hours when a lot of games are on, 2 pages are active at the most. the other 8 pages are dead threads or generals that hit the bump limit. Saying there isn't room for culture on /sp/ is incredibly selfish, and demonstrates the unwillingness to allow slight deviations from the letter of the law that is killing /sp/

General threads always devolve. I watched it happen years ago on /v/. They only get worse and worse.

There used to be generals that were actually good on /v/. I loved SC2 generals like 2-3 years ago. People were constantly discussing strategies and the pro scene, and tournaments or events. It was awesome. Then people starting posting the same few things in each thread, just to shitpost, because they knew those threads were popular. Then people started tripping like mad and that spiraled them out of control. The SC2 generals on /vg/ are just the absolute lowest common denominator shitposting about SC2.

I don't want that on /sp/

jesus christ this is fucking terrible
>>
oh god, this argument is so stupid. both sides are absolutely convinced that they are the vast majority and the other side is just an extremely vocal minority
>>
>this thread

I've been on 4chan since 2006 when desu was spammed to hell on /b/ and /sp/ since 2008 before the Summer Olympics and I've never seen it worse than it is now.

/sp/ was great because sports and random topics could coincide and enable community growth and genuine discussions. Yes, there always has been some shitposting, but guess what? There are no sports on at this time. /sp/ was always able to self moderate and be mostly on topic during normal sports hours (for example-- during the football season at least 8/10 of the first page would be game threads). All of this changed the moment mods stepped in. Great sports discussions by nature are not entirely based upon just talking about sports. Go to any sports bar in the country. I know it's shocking, but they don't JUST talk about sports! These off-topic threads were what made /sp/ truly unique and drove traffic to the board. However, most of 4chan won't understand this because the majority of /sp/ hates anime, but posts on an anime website, and contrarily, most of 4chan doesn't like sports.

And this is coming from someone who has never been banned in almost 7 years of being on the site.

>tfw there is a wshh thread on sportschan as we speak
>>
/sp/ sucks because the quality of 4chan's userbase has taken a sharp nosedive over the years.

The more popular 4chan gets, the worse its boards get. Most of the people who made /sp/ so great in 08/09 aren't around anymore. The people who have come in from olympics/world cups over the years are more of a problem than the god damn reddit strawman.

>The people who have come in from olympics/world cups over the years are more of a problem than the god damn reddit strawman.

So much this.
>>
>Say that people who want /sp/ to have moderation have no lives and take 4chan too seriously
>Pull this.

The hypocrisy is hysterical. You say anybody who takes it too seriously needs to go outside, but then you think you're completely in the right to write essays bitching about it?

These double standards are hilarious.

If eventbowls get banned on sp, Ill be using sportchan for it.
>>
>>701863
>If
That's adorable.
>>
I think having mods is fine but the problem is the KIND of mods doing the moderating. It's obvious they don't know shit about the boards and just delete whatever they feel like deleting.

Moot probably gets the fags who kiss up to him to be mods. It's common among boards. The faggots get the mod powers by sucking up while actual fair, rational people who are most suitable to be mods are not given such powers because they're not sucking up.

You're getting confused, m8. I said 4chan isn't some super serious website that doesn't allow fun. I never said I, or anyone else, takes it too seriously. There is a big difference. Learn to read before posting a reply, faggot.

>Supah serious.

Especially on that last point, super serious, what is that if not saying it's taking itself too seriously?

Assuming you're OP and if not, I don't understand why you're rambling on like I regarded you in any fashion.
