so. are we allowed to say whatever we want as long as it isn't threatening or blatant shitposting?
>>
Or illegal.
>>
>>550735 (OP)

You're allowed to say anything or post anything as long as you follow global rule 1,2,4,9,10,11,14,15

Most people, including mods and janitors don't give a fuck about the other ones.

Local rules depend on the community obviously. But basically the only thing that is a guaranteed ban is CP.
>>
i just saw two threads saying they got banned for saying nigger and nigga.

so, whats up with that?
>>
as long as it's not against the rules and doesn't go against the ethos of legion you should be fine. Lurk /b/ for a while before you post, it should give you a rough idea of what forms of media is acceptable here.
>>
>>550851
did you just suggest i lurk /b/? get the fuck outta my /q/ you dumb bitch. i'm asking about specific board cultures. i.e naruto on /a/ vs /co/ and how the posting style might be a banable offense on diffent boards.
>>
>>550891
How new are you? 4chan is /b/, if you don't follow legion all you're doing is inciting drama by trying to be a special snowflake.
>>
>>550906
>4chan is /b/
Oh I see, you're one of those.
>>
>>550906
Jesus, kid.
>>
maybe moot should delete /b/ for a couple months. i mean the population is basicly teenage idiots.
/b/ /s4s/ and /soc/ should all just be deleted for a little while. maybe they'd all go to some other site. then when we all notice less shitposting we bring the back /b/ & /z/ and make a sfw /soc/ all the rate me threads... fuck soc its cancer. just delete it for good.
>>
>>550941
>maybe they'd all go to some other site
No, they'd just go shitpost on every other board. This is a bad idea.
>>
moving back on topic. is moot gonna delete the forced archives? i mean, i'm not liking the whole foolz thing. its cool for pointing out a thread but its not directly 4chan affiliated. in reguards to board culture, why exactly is it alright for a board to boot off anime they don't like, or a type of identity association they don't like? naruto and otherkin on /a/ & /lgbt/ i like both, and i see the reasoning for not wanting it. but then where do these things go?
>>
>>550944
like how /pol/ shitposted on /lgbt/ everyday forever.

they'd leave within a week when we forced em out. sadly i agree with what /a/ said. how long must moot and all of us suffer this bullshit? we grew out of /b/ and its not even what it once was anymore, /b/ is pretty much /v/ but with stoners and a few pedos and loli dumps at this point. we should 86 that shit and bring it back later.

You must follow the rules at all times!!
>>
>>550949
>but then where do these things go?
Not here. The idea behind individual boards having likes and dislikes or an aversion to certain types of threads is to prevent them from becoming like other forums on the Internet.

In the case of /a/, its widely known that many people get into anime through Naruto, so anyone who reads, watches or otherwise likes it is hence ignorant and undeserving to post on the board. Similarly they do not want recommendation threads because there are already dozens of other websites dedicated to answering that same question time and time again.

Generally speaking, these unwritten rules are an attempt to keep your average, low-brow, "normalfag" Internet user from the board. Elitism, as it were. Problem is - again, in the case of /a/ - while this may keep out the usual bishie-loving, emoticon-spamming, squeeing pile of weeaboo from the board, you get something perhaps equally worse filling in that gap: memes and other zero-effort posts being the bread and butter for every thread.
>>
>>550735 (OP)
Board culture needs to die.
It is blatant "I can break the rules because fuck you" faggotry.
It has ruined most boards.

Ban constantly, ban deep.
>>
>>551095
The key thing is to seperate board culture from blatant shitposting.
>>
>>551095
>>551135
You're both right, Board Culture can either be helpful, or just an excuse to shitpost to hell.
>>
>>551156
>>551135
>>551095
"Board culture" (aka "accepted" off-topic) is not actual board culture.
The former is a poor excuse for shitposting and usually a precursor to the "fun" argument so often used to allow off-topic.
Actual board culture refers not to what can be posted (necessarily) but how you post. 4chan as a whole is generally against the use of emoticons, for instance. /jp/ tends not to be fond of people overly using the quote function - "greentext" - as another.

Its less about "what I can get away with posting" and more "what I should not do". Failing to adhere to individual board customs only causes you to stick out and draw negative attention your way. Lurking moar used to be a big part of learning all this, but you dont nearly see that encourage enough any more.
>>
>>551189
Basically, stop trying to make the boards go the way of MTV,
>>
>Lurking moar used to be a big part of learning all this, but you dont nearly see that encourage enough any more.

Course not, like moot said, we should welcome teenagers with open arms.

but /a/ is just shitposting faggots who even acknowledge this. yes weebos shouldn't be on /a/ but at the same time, you become sometype of chanfag for thinking you have a powerlevel and superior taste. i like naruto, i think it's become pretty retarded but i still like it, doesn't mean i can't enjoy other things. i like its not my fault i'm not popular, gantz, yotsuba and animal world. doesn't mean i'm gonna get on /a/ ( or hopefully one day /ma/nga and comics) and say, recommend me something. no , i can fucking lurk because i'm an adult. but at the same time, i don't understand how board culture which is obvious shitposting is allowed to run past the rules just because the community accepts it. its fucking hypocrosy and /a/ is the evidence of that. if not /a/ then look at /v/ same shit.

Okay from the boards I usually visit, board etiquette is there to help keep the discussions, provide OC/board-related content and prevent the same shit being asked/brought up over and over again.
Request threads on most boards will get you linked to /r/, posting /pol/ related material on /lit/ will get you banned, etc etc
>>
>>551314
there is a difference between saying a word and being racist.

those niggas were acting stupid
>those are some stupid niggers
major difference, reguardless of the format of nigger/nigga its subjective context.
>>551312
not the point, its as if /a/ is a bunch of tryhard hipster faggots.

>oh you like naruto? nah you can't be into the same anime as me. i mean, do you even watch kuroi no gaijin kotako?

point is board culture is subverting the rules, and if thats the case, why not appoint board specified mods and be done with it. i don't like to see shitposts and board culture usually consist of such. either make it so we all have specified mods and no reason to complain about shitposting some/all of the time. or have mods enforce the rules as they should be.

>many /a/nons browse /lgbt/ which might explain all the faggotry and autism/flavor of the month shitposting that happens on /a/
>>
>>551341
nigger/nigga/nigguh is acceptable on /b/, /v/, and probably /a/ (never been there)
any other board that finds calling someone/thing nigger amusing is pretty immature. I wouldn't say it's a bannable cause, but it does bring down that board's IQ each time nigger is mentioned.
>>
>>551339
what boards do you lurk? i mean /pol/ tards may be idiots but their books shouldn't be blacklisted especially on 4chan.

also /lit/ looks like it shares users with /a/ &/lgbt/

/ck/ /q/ /lgbt/ /r9k/ and /vr/ here. i might lurk /a/ /co/ & /m/ regularly soon.
>>
>>551351
There was one anime thread on /lit/ this entire year.
Only Ayn Rand is blacklisted because any threads that mentioned her usually (got) trolled

/vg/ /wg/ /hr/ /p/ /lit/ for me
occasionally /tv/ and /x/
>>
i fail to see how calling someone nigger implies a lack of measurable intellegence.

especially when i can fully articulate myself in a diverse enough means to express whatever opinion i have. doesn't mean i'm less intellegent for using the word just because you don't like it. i'm black and find my inability to say nigger offensive.

anime shouldn't be on /lit/ unless your comparing writing style. as for your boards, your a normalfag. but i like that you're a diverse person. keep up the quality posting anon.
>>
>>551360
It's the same idea as calling people retards. It shows a lack of effort because it's not even offensive to call someone a nigger on 4chan, the word itself signifies the poster doesn't have any better insults other than calling someone a nigger.

That's just my opinion though, anyone who does not agree with me is a nigger. (see how defeating it sounds?)
>>
not every point needs to be validated with or by extensive arguing faggot.

>faggot, an annoying person
by leaving the point with faggot and ending the rebuttle i've stated my discontent with your argument. i didn't have to expand on why i didn't like it or post my thoughts as to your logic behind not saying nigger in the context of an argument or assuming its used as a last resort in an argument.

see?

>>
>>551365
I think it had to do with the fact that a good majority of anime being produced and brought over is coming from Light Novels, which technically are /lit/erature with a couple pictures tossed in here and there, if that.

It's long the same lines a Adeptus Evangelion, BESM, or other weird anime RPGs on /tg/.
>>
>>551432
You know what I mean.
Try to visit other boards besides /b/ and grow up
>>
>>551443
>grow up
When I was little we were taught to marginalize people who say things we don't like by ignoring them. We were taught this would make them stop/go away.
Growing up was realizing that it doesn't make them go away, it just enables you to cope with a world in which not everyone thinks exactly like you.

>Some people use words you don't like.
>Grow up.
>>
>>551456
By grow up I mean maybe stop using nigger, not because I don't like it, but realize that it just might not be the strongest inflammatory word to troll with. I really don't care when people use it, it just shows a lack of intelligence and skill when you have to call someone a nigger (even ironically).
You can continue to use it, it doesn't upset me as much as make me think you fail at trolling.
>>
>>551474
My whole point though, is that by giving power to the word by making it taboo only adds to the allure of it's use, don't you see that?
Like I said before, ignoring it wont make it go away, but it will make it not matter anymore. When it stops being such a hot button to push, its use will become more obscure.
You have a right to see people who use a word you don't like as less intelligent whether it's true or not, but don't try to convince yourself it's for any reason other than your hurt feelings.
>>
>>551490
It's not a taboo, nobody said it's a taboo, especially not on 4chan.
But if you use it like teenage girls say 'like' nobody will actually take you seriously.
If you still think I think nigger is offensive or hurts my feelings then I really have nothing else to say.

Check /lit/'s archive if you think I'm the only one who think nigger is used by incompetent people.
>>
>>551495
>nobody will actually take you seriously
If that's the case then why make a point to ban the word or users of the word?

Furthermore, nigger is not the only degenerate word that sophisticated gentlemen such as yourself associate with the lesser educated and dull witted. Why specifically target this word, but not other low class words you find to be in bad taste?
And where do you draw the line?
>>
>>551503
Again, I don't agree with banning over the word nigger as I've stated here >>551345
All I'm saying is I would hide the thread and move on. Unless it's an amusing post, then I just lurk.
>>
>>551474
>>551495

I'd like to pop in and point out that perhaps the more mature person is the one who isn't offended by an offhand comment
>>
>>551281
I know what you mean. I also like Naruto but mostly because I read everything. Like literally, many summers ago I just breeze through every single manga I could with little criteria involved. I would read 1-2 entire mangas per day for the next 5 years until I slowed down a bit and though I am relatively new to /a/ as a 2007 summerfag, I could still tell how closed minded the community was.

But it's only gotten worse since then. I can still remember how /a/ would bash things like MPC and GOM player in favor of VLC but now it hates VLC and worships MPC. Or the irrational hate for streaming even though high quality streaming has been a thing for ages. There's a lot of irrational elitism on that board and at the same time, blatant shitposting of immense proportions is allowed because it's just been there for a while.

It's all too depressing but I don't bother questioning or going against it much because there's not much I can do about it.
>>
>>551505
>I don't think we should ban it!
>I just think people should stop doing it!

I think Naruto is fucking terrible honestly but people should be allowed to discuss it on /a/.

The truth of the matter is that it's only 'not accepted' and 'Against board culture' because:

>BOOHOO I CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF ME ON AN ANONYMOUS IMAGEBOARD

Basically, they want to feel like they are a part of a 'secret club' where there are NO WEABOOS ALLOWED and therefore this means that any series weaboos like should not be talked about. (Or else people will think we're weaboos!!).

First of all, the only 'weaboos' you get on /a/ realistically are /a/ users who troll with emoticons and other /a/ users believe it/pretend to believe it as an excuse to preach their 'secret club' dogma.

Secondly, this all stems from the intention of wanting to look cooler/more hardcore than other anime fans. It's the 'we hate casuals' mentality.

Now think about this. /a/ perceives its userbase as being 'less casual' and 'More dedicated' than other anime communities. But let me ask you this: Does Crunchyroll have series you can't discuss? Does Leddit, ANN or Gaia? No.

So how can you say you are less casual than them when you actively won't discuss some anime? You don't like an anime because someone you don't like enjoys it? That's casual behavior. Shit, that's the same logic normals use for not watching anime and cartoons.

They're no better than normals, it's the same shit in a different costume.

Heh.

So basically, /a/ is /v/?
>>
>>551590
That is not argument. My comment was genuine, informative and conveys something relevant to the topic at hand. Conversely, yours is just half assed, barely honest, borders on shitposting by being just a recycled gig and contributes nothing to this discussion other than serve as a personal. Yet mine is more likely to be mocked.

It's wonderful, really.

>>551517
I just want to trim down the shitposting and empty trolling for the sake of trolling. How do you propose I achieve this? Only the slowest boards accomplish this and you can only really have meaningful discussions on the faster boards like /a/ or /v/ when the topic is relatively low profile and people are not attention whoring. Sure, the threads 404 before they hit 50 replies oftentimes, but they are worth more to me than any 600 reply troll thread where people make the stupidest posts possible, crutch on all lingo and memes they can cram into a single post and resort to pretending to be retarded.
>>
>>552002
inb4 >lel whut a newfag
>>
>>552318
/t/ is the slowest board on 4chan and the stupidest arguments always seem to pop up there.

It's a split culture so half of it is JAV and the other half is american shtuff.

Everyone on /t/ who doesn't like JAV hates the board
>>
>>552326
Slowest moving? I guess that just comes with the nature of the board. Not everyone who browses that board is really encouraged to post other than to show gratitude for whatever's up for sharing or bashing it along with anomalies.
>>
>>552002
You can always leave. Seriously, you people are either masochists or trolls.
>>
>>552337
It's because it wasn't always like that. I'm just old and jaded and hate change. I can barely bring myself to browse anymore outside of certain niche sections of the site just because I hate the way people express their opinions across most boards I like.
>>
>>552335
American content isn't even allowed on /t/ because >muh piracy laws

The Janitor always deletes American threads and people proceed to yell at him for doing his job and beg for a new one.

The general populace of /t/ is stupid. Still, I'd rather there be more interesting Japanese content than just porn and anime.
>>
>>552318
He's right, you're likely trolling. No sane person would welcome illiterates on /a/.
>>
>>552343
Don't stick to just one place then. Find new places.
>>
>>552337

Why should I leave? I've been posting on /a/ since the beginning, having people swamp the board and trying to turn it into some kind of shithole for /v/ and /b/ rejects who like anime is no different from the current edgy 'secret club' kids getting angry at the prospect of 'Gaia' invading.

You're going onto someone else's lawn and saying 'GET OFF MY LAWN DAMN KIDS'.

Just talk about anime or fuck off, this is an anime board not '/a/ general' board. Go and ask moot for a meta board if you're so interested in hanging out with your 'bros' shit, use IRC or /b/.

That's what we used to do when we wanted to talk about off-topic shit, we would take it to /b/.

You complain /b/ is removed from the rest of 4chan and that 'I liked it better when it was Anime/Random!!' (Most people who say this weren't even around for anyway).

But if you're so sick of /b/ being a hangout for kids who don't like anime then start putting your offtopic /a/ threads there instead and start changing it. Don't just dump it on the rest of /a/ and then try to justify it with 'board culture'.
