I've seen more and more generals pop up on /a/ as of late.

I don't mind the occasional general on the day of a new release, but things have been lingering around, even if the subject at hand hardly has any new info worth discussing.

One Piece is one of my favorite series, but I honestly don't think it really needs to have a thread a day until a new chapter. Things have been working out before without this occurring, so I honestly don't get the sudden change.

JoJo, Girlz Und Panzer, AKB0048, and Idolm@ster, honestly don't need to be discussed daily, so I made this thread asking what our solutions are to diminish things a bit.

I think a situation akin to /vg/ would work out, and was wondering if it was a possible solution, but I'm sure most of you also have ideas so let's hear them.

>I made this thread asking what our solutions are to diminish things a bit
Report things that break the rules, hide things that you don't like
>>
>>465865 (OP)
Idolm@ster has had generals forever. They should be allowed to keep there generals. Plus they translate a lot of shit in those threads. Everything else I agree with especially Jojo it is attracting /v/ and Gaiafags.
>>
>>465865 (OP)
>forgetting Evangelion
>>
>>465973
Those were moved to the text boards.
>>
>>465973
Those are dying off and will die pernamently after BDs of 3.33 are out. We should brace ourself for another 3 months of Index general though.
>>
Generals breed generals. Just like off-topic threads spread other off-topic threads.

If that shit isn't crushed fast it will reach a point where it become the norm for new-users and they become part of the "culture" like dubs and shitposting is for /v/. At that point is too late and the mods can't go and kill that shit because
>But it had generals forever. (not really)

Unless the mods and Moot make a move FAST, enjoy coming to /a/ just to find the very same threads every day.
>>
>>466019
You act like generals are a new thing. In fact, they were way more of a problem in the past before mods cracked down on them. Remember K-On generals? This kind of thing all seems to go in a cycle.
>>
Bleach generals need to fuck off.
>>
>>466022
They are relatively new.
>Remember K-On generals?
Yes and both those and the SW were awful.
That's why I say that shit need to be purged.
It's not something that the community can take care of. It's something that the moderation team has to solve, especially if it's something that created problems in the past.
>>
>>466049 →
dumb fuck
>>
>>465929
The problem is when my front page starts to get filled with filtered generals.
>>
I'm sorry but one has to be very autistic to notice all the generals you listed besides the Jojo ones.

Seriously those threads never cross my mind for the most part.
>>
>>466158
The site and the posters on the site are not obligated to provide content that you like.

OP listed four general threads. FOUR. Out of 165 possible threads. There are probably more off-topic/troll/general-shitpost threads at any given time on /a/ than there are generals.
>>
>>467301
Your comparison is wrong. Most only browse first 1-2 pages. General threads are rampant on /a/. To add to OP's list of daily generals, theres wanpiss/naruto/bleach/shounen/buyfag generals clogging up the front age daily. /a/ front page does not need dailies. Mods need to delete these shit and ban whoever is making dailies. Fucking annoying when generals take up 1/3 of front page at any given time
>>
>>467331
If you're too much of a fucking retard to look at the rest of the fucking board past the first two pages, it's your own damn fault, not the rest of the site's.
>>
>>467331
Use the catalog.
>your comment was not original
hah
>>
We could force generals onto >>>/anime/, where they're supposed to be.
>>
>>467370
That would require the moderation to do something about them again.
>>
>>466158
Learn to use the catalog.
>>
>>467370
Some generals require images to be posted, thus the text board is not a solution.
>>
>>467401
The catalog is shit because it doesn't truly show which threads are rally active or when the last reply was or what are the replies to the thread, i only use it when I start browsing to see if there is already a thread about the last eps I watched before starting a new one.

>>467402
The majority of the generals with images are just circlejerking and mindless image dumps to keep the thread bumped on the first page
>>
>>467470
The catalog does show what threads are active if you sort by 'last bumped'.

Is your own fault for not using the superior method, and then complaining the front page has shit you don't like.

>The majority of the generals
Thus not all generals, and image dumping is not against the rules.

Settings > Filters > add keywords (JoJo, Girls Und Panzer, AKB0048, and Idolm@ster,)

>Browsing /a/

There are better places outside of /a/ for enjoy chinese cartoons
>>
>>467490
That would block all threads with those keywords.

>>467474
>image dumping is not against the rules.
But long term discussion is.
>>
>>465865 (OP)
I'd wait until after the new GuP episodes drop to see if it clears up a bit.

In general (heh) I'm with the folks who don't see the few generals going as especially bad.
>>
>>467494
Then it seems the rule is not enforced. Thus we can assume the mods have no problem with it.
>>
>>467497
There are tons of threads that aren't deleted by the staff despite breaking the rules.
Lack of moderation does not mean approval.
>>
>>467502
Whenever the mods are active, they also don't get deleted. Even though some of them are up 24/7, I never certain general threads get deleted.
That would either imply their is no moderation at all, or they don't care about it.

But thats irrelevant, my original point was that the OP can solve his problem by using the catalog and that not all general threads are a problem.
>>
>>467512
So what exactly do you want to happen? Mods delete the thread, say "no generals allowed," and people go and make "Idolmaster thread" without using the word general and everything proceeds as normal.

You can't just ban discussion of certain shows. You can't ban people for posting in an active thread with a lot of replies about a show they like. You can't babysit every thread to determine whether or not the posts in it meet your arbitrary definition of acceptable.
>>
>>467512
The catalog solved the problem of certain topics dominating the board better than generals did.
>>
>>465990
Index generals have always found their place in archives. The only way that you'll see them is for a few days when a new volume is released or when a thread pops up and trust me, the franchise doesn't have a lack of info during the time span between volume releases.

If more generals were to adopt this, then I'd honestly wouldn't have a problem with them, if at all.
>>
Here's an idea for all you general-goers.

Use sage.
Out of sight, out of mind.
>>
I can't believe you're whining about /a/ General threads about anime when there's 50000 pointless "Hey /a/ I really like this kawaii anime girl."-esque threads made every day there.

I'm pretty sure mods said "no generals allowed" before(back when only few generals are active), but because they didn't enforce the policy theres now quite a bit more generals active on /a/ all the time. Its getting ridiculous. Yes theres catalog, but does catalog mean you can post porn/discuss video games/wrestling/sports whatever? The mods are hesitant to delete it because they think its "/a/ culture". Its not. Its shit, generals are shit and are overrunning /a/.

PANIC!!!
>>
/a/ is too fucking big for its own good and it certainly doesnt help that mods dont do anything to help keep shit quality posts[1] out, rule breaking threads[2], image dumps[3] or other threads that would be better elsewhere[4] on their respective boards.

[1] - how_two_girls_have_sex.jpg, any daily repost or (in recent times) just about any Madoka thread
[2] - Any r/a/dio thread, "untz thread", etc
[3] - "[character/fetish] thread!"
[4] - "It's time.", any drawfag thread, daily japanese, sadpanda, osu!, desktop thread et al

Mods really need to enforce the use of /c/, /e/, /d/, /h/, /jp/, /u/, /y/ and wherever else rather than just letting everything sit in /a/ because of "culture".

With that said; "general" threads are the least of /a/s worries. At least theyre on topic. Making an /ag/ or whatever would only repeat what /v/ and /vg/ have going which we dont need. Separating discussion on a similar subject only creates a grey area and would cause stagnation.
If any new board were to be created it should be an Anime/Random type so all fruitless bickering, circlejerking, RPing, waifu and other secondary/tertiary threads can go there.

Here's what I'm hearing from OP: Stop talking about things I don't like talking about
>>
/a/'s general are hardly a problem.

The waifu shit is the real cancer.

"WHY IS SHE SO PERFECT /a/? HURR HURR I WANNA LICK HER FOOT"
>>
http://archive.foolz.us/a/search/text/Asuka%20so/type/op/

The quality of the Eva fanbase has really plummet.
I wonder how long they will last.
>>
>look at front page of /a/
>less the half threads are generals
>"waahh generals fill up the front page!"

Maybe OP and all who agree are just whining about threads they don't like. Especially if you look at the catalog there's barely a general in it.
>>
If people want to discuss something every day, then it deserves to be discussed every day. We can debate about formats, but if you just want to silence fans of a series, you're the problem, not them.

>>467470
>The majority of the generals with images are just circlejerking and mindless image dumps to keep the thread bumped on the first page
False, this doesn't happen in most generals. Most of them have on-topic discussion and translate material. Don't pretend that generals on the rest of the site are the same as /v/'s.

>>467598
The mods said they'd be judged on a case-by-case basis.

There are times when specific generals go downhill and need to change. However, most people complaining about generals just want to eliminate anything they don't like.

/vg/ worked because /v/'s problem was multiple subcommunities at war with each other. /a/'s problem is completely different: outsiders and crossboarders don't want to follow standards. The solution to that is to clean up the other boards on 4chan which those shitposters are learning bad habits on. This thread has more to do with /v/'s past general crisis than anything that's happening on /a/, and the best thing the mods could do for /a/ would be whipping the other large boards into shape.
>>
>>465975
Yet we still have a fag creating Asuka imagedump threads every fucking day.
