Why do mods do this? There are many times I've reported a thread, and will see it up hours later, and just out of curiosity I'll try reporting it again and I can, even though my IP hasn't changed.

It's not like I'm reporting threads because I don't like them, they break the rules, so why do the staff just decide to not only ignore the fact that these threads and posts exist, but actively try to hide the fact that people have reported them?

I know that moderation doesn't have to be transparent, but when it's obvious that somebody is intentionally trying to preserve rule-breaking threads, wouldn't it just be easier to come out and change the fucking rules instead of trying to sweep your own machinations of the system under the rug? Why even have a report function at all if moderators are going to treat reports this way?
>>
could you link to some examples and/or tell us what rules do you think they are they breaking?

Threads in the report queue can either be left there, deleted, or approved. If it's deleted or approved, nominally there's no need for other moderators to continue to look at it.

>wouldn't it just be easier to come out and change the fucking rules
No, because changing the rules is a pain in the ass, whereas letting things slide is really easy.

I happened to notice the same phenomenon. I could post archive links to some examples if you want. One of the threads was asking for instructions on how to produce and sell illegal drugs (violation of global rule 1), the other was a 4chan cup advertising thread (violation of global rule 11).
>>
Mods arbitrarily enforce or choose not to enforce the rules based on their personal whims. It's always been like this. It certainly doesn't do much to encourage use of the report system though. Why bother when it's treated like a joke?
>>
I've had this happen to me too. Usually, when a thread/post is blatantly against the rules, it'll be deleted.

>>419050

Drugs, I guess, don't violate rule 1.

4chan Cup is also a gray area.

One was a
>Do you wish you were a little girl?
thread (which isn't anime), one was a video game thread (also not anime), both of which have pruned naturally already

Another is this >>>/a/7989923

>one was a video game thread
Was it the Etrian Odyssey one, the Paper Mario one or another? Lately it seems a bunch of threads keep popping up using a "Would you watch an X anime?" which are just an excuse to dump images and have off-topic discussion.
Visual novels also continue to get posted on /a/ despite the rules being clarified and re-clarified that they belong on /jp/ or /vg/.

Also threads like this:

Trap and loli threads seem to be on a downfall too. The latter always devolves to "loli vs paedo" and the former is just some tripfags whoring themselves out with anons fawning over them.
