/q/ is a place where the 4chan community can discuss the site amongst themselves and with moderators, developers, and the administrator (me).I plan to hold regular Q&A sessions and try to clarify rules, solicit feedback, etc. We haven't had a board like this in quite some time (with the exception of >>>/img/ which still exists but is more or less unused), so we're still trying to get a better idea of how it should work. Super-oldfags will remember our IRC townhalls from 2004-2005, /q/, and /sug/. Those proved to be extremely productive and we're hoping this will be the same.Any criticism should be constructive and related to 4chan. Do not attack other users. Spamming of any kind is not allowed, nor is trolling.Unless we are explicitly accepting board suggestions in a stickied thread, board requests will be ignored.Do not request bans for users, these will also be ignored and removed. If a user is breaking a rule, report their posts. If a user is a known ban evader, report their posts.A few things:-You must write a subject to start a thread.-Post timers are high to discourage spam/one user creating a ton of threads.-Forced anonymous and display ID are on.-Saging is disabled. You will receive an ID instead of Heaven and the thread will bump.-We're using the ROBOT9000 script to block duplicate posts. (We will probably clear mutes/hashes from the DB regularly so this doesn't become annoying, but we want to encourage people write well thought out posts.)
Moot it has come to my attention recently that /q/ has been overrun with "gets" and generally people who don't read the sticky. What do you think can be done about this? We have been asking you to stop this for literally minutes but the mods ignore us and the janitors seem to not be present. Also we have notorious tripfags that need to be banned.Administrator Reply: >>156

ITT we discuss ideas for improvements to /jp/'s rules
>>6096This. We used to have a mantra that you had to use all the pages for /jp/. Now we have Catalogs and Galleries and whatnot, so it's even easier. Since we (still) have a strong culture of condensing threads, choose to see threads as self-contained "boards". Stick to the ones you like. I hang out (mostly lurking) in the STG, VN, VNTS, denpa and doujin music threads, and my experience couldn't be any better. You'd have to be a masochist to actively click on threads you don't like, or type replies to threads you don't want on /jp/.
>>6119Oh I know about the archives and catalog alright. It's how I discovered how bad you people really are. I knew shitposters were prevalent but after I dug around the archives I saw how bad it truly was.
>>4810I could get behind this. I wish idols were just gone but they condense their threads so it's tolerable.
>>6119>My question is why it matters what percentage of /jp/ is shitposting, as long as your relevant interests fit there.First, because I don't want, say, the Comiket fangames thread to 404 while I sleep because I didn't wake up after six hours to bump it again. Second, because having two thirds of the board be retarded shit is an eyesore and encourages people to bring that attitude everywhere.
I generally do like the way /jp/ is. I just would like to see a firmer stance on NSFW content.
I was thinking I would apply for Janitor when the application is open again. The thing is, I don't know what board I should apply for at all, since I only browse /a/ myself. From daily use I don't think it needs Janitors that badly and I'd rather help on a board that actually needs one...Or, should I apply at all to boards I don't already frequent? I have years of experience as a global moderator on foreign chans, so browsing boards that normally don't interest me is nothing new for me. But I can see the lack of knowledge about the boards own culture being a big problem at times.tl;dr: Which boards need Janitors the most, and should someone apply for the position if they don't browse them already?
>>6218>>6209Like, really? You want people like this to be janitor?
>>6223we know its you, we can see your ID.
>>6218>>6209God, don't tell him.>feels>Can't look up how to use something as simple as fucking IRC.
>>6235I don't think someone knowing how to use IRC really determines if they'd be an effective janitor or not.I didn't know how to use irc until someone gave me a tutorial like 7 years ago.
>>6223>>6125 here. Happy to have been a help. Good luck.
Moot. Please delete /b/ and /soc/. They are accountable for bringing in 95% of the shitposters on the site that don't care about contributing anything to this community. Thank you.Moderator Replies: >>5531 >>5900 >>6079 >>6157 >>6208
>>6208Do you know how many mods there are that moderate 4chan in all?
I've read the thread and I agree that you can't simply delete /b/ outright. And yes, it's full of problems and cancer but I think it presents an interesting opportunity to do some experimenting. Maybe /b/ could somehow be made more "self-moderating". Change the "reporting" feature so that if a thread receives "x" number or "x" percent of reports, it is automatically 404'ed. Or maybe do that with the sage command. Tell the users that they essentially can "vote down" crap threads. If a thread gets 20 or 50 or whatever number of sages, it automatically 404's.At first all the /b/-tards will sage-bomb the hell out of each other. Eventually some will finally give up and leave. It might get rid of some of the kids if they're immediately booed out of existence. If nothing else, it would be more interesting than it is today.
>>6208Is there a limit of janitors that are going to be accepted (in case there are enough good candidates, obviously)? Because I seriously doubt moot would allow hundred fresh janitors walk free.
Quite honestly, I think /b/ is simply lost. Can't do shit about it, however what we should do is focus on boards that are ACTUALLY worth saving.
>>6169Most of the arguments never end because there's no fucking actual data to go by and everyone is just second guessing what they think the problem is because it's an anonymous image board in which people don't have access to what other users are doing.Hell what quantifies as a newfag has been all over the fucking place for years and I don't think there's ever been disclosure to that topic..
It directly and clearly states in the rules of /mlp/ that it is supposed to be a worksafe board and clop is not allowed, yet I see people doing unspoilered rule 34 dumps all the time. Additionally, shitposting on /mlp/ is beyond ridiculous (hourly "I don't get the appeal" threads, hacksaw copypasta, "I want to cum inside Rainbow Dash" etc).I think if we had some mods who actually payed attention to /mlp/ and banned the people who broke the rules, or some janitors who would at least clean up the porn, it would be a much better board.Moderator Reply: >>4548
>>6122>/mlp/ has plenty of waste but it's kept in cancer containersThe same way that fecal matter in sewers in actually contained in specialized canisters so that it doesn't mix with the other bodily....Wait a minute....
>>6136I fail to see how my actions are wrong. Is this board not a board for discussion of rules and regulations? What better way to discuss a point than to relate it equally to something all people come across daily?
>>6136I'm from /mlp/ and I personally find them hilarious. Also, if you haven't noticed already, it's the same guy.
There's a stupid amount of bitching here from people who just want to flame ponies//mlp/ rather than debate. It's true that /mlp/ is a sfw board (blue background and all) so the clop threads don't belong. You've either really got four choices, created a /clp/ board (similar to how wsg came up), allow mlp clop threads to be on /b/, or else turn /mlp/ into a nsfw board to officially accept clop threads, or just start enforcing the rules and removing all clop threads straight away (basically kicking them off the site)I think turning it into a nsfw board would just encourage clop threads and push it much more towards that aspect rather than the show discussion. Also, as a clopper said here, just saying "they need to gtfo and find another website" is stupid too. Yeah, one of 4chan's biggest appeals is that it's "a home for people who have none" and most of what a good chunk of people do here is also shunned and also has other websites they can go to; /b/'s not the only random imageboard, why don't we tell them to fuck off and go find another site while we focus on our topical boards?. Creating a /clp/ board seems excessive though and I think it would slip a relatively small fanbase. There are people who do both, make clop threads as well as contribute to show discussion, but they've be taken to /clp/ and /mlp/ would probably even slower.Personally I think /mlp/ should start being enforced more and cleaned out, but then clop threads/a clop thread should be allowed on /b/ just like any other porn is.It's tricky alright.
>>6214I just want them to make every board NSFW.Because fuck, what kind of dumbass browses 4chan at work, anyway?
Seemingly whenever someone starts a Naruto thread on /a/, regardless of the OP starting off by being "ironic" or not, it's flood by "ironic" shitposting and copypasta.Regardless of your opinion on Naruto, I don't think this kind of behavior promotes high-quality posting. I don't even understand what people hope to accomplish by doing this to threads about a specific anime or manga. Can something be done about this? Not posting Naruto threads ignores the issue at hand.
>>6161The biggest concern that I think a lot of people have is that outside of /a/ the Naruto fanbase is one of the most cancerous disgusting fanbases there is.People think that if Naruto threads are allowed on /a/ then THOSE people will start migrating to the board and then everything will go to shit.If it weren't for the fanbase I don't think this many people would be opposed to NAruto threads
It's not the anime themselves. It's the people who it brings to /a/.
Sure is cancer in here.
>>6113 does /co/ hate the show in of itslef or just hate the kind fanbase that gravitates to it?meant>>6161to quote you and for some reason I can't delete that post.
>>6140That fanbase isn't going to leave their insular communities where everyone actually likes it and they can circlejerk. Especially not to a website filled with people who hate it, and that doesn't have all the forum bullshit they love.
What are your thoughts on splitting major boards into multiple boards like 2ch does? I think the best of memes were born on 4chan when it was less popular, and it was more like a club for a bunch of nerdy friends rather than modern 4chan: a gigantic ocean of gaping fish squealing insults and trolling one another with no sense of community.Splitting /v/ into 4 boards, for example, would create four diverse little sub communities, each with their own little culture that one might grow to like over another. As a matter of fact, moderators could uh, subtly, designate one of those 4 boards as the "shit board" (allowing large amounts of nonvidya content) while heavily moderating another board, and leaving the other two boards somewhere in between in terms of what is allowed to be posted. This would be kept secret though. By having invisible rules, the good posters will naturally be attracted to the good boards, and the shit posters naturally attracted to the shit board. All will be well.
Overpopulation and post speed are fucking killing the more popular boards of 4chan.If you go to a slow board like /tg/ and make a post, chances are you'll get decent replies most of the time; however, if you go to a fast board like /v/ and make a post, you'll either receive shit replies or no replies (because your damn thread scrolled to page 12 in seconds)A board split (ie v1, v2, v3, v4 NOT pc, vj, vw, v) would be a nice thing to test out. I believe the idea is to reduce posting speed to decrease shitposting and not to segregate PC gamers from console gamers.
>>6121>testIt's been proven many times that most splits will only cause elitism, culture forcing, etc./jp/ is a gigantic mistake because you can't remove a containment unit anymore.
>>6165The idea is that it won't segregate people because they're all the same board with the same rules.
>>6185/jp/ isn't supposed to segregate people yet it's filled with oldfag who can't let go of the fact that the quality of any community is a downward spiral
>>6204/jp/has different rules and a different name. It's there to segregate japanese culture from anime discussion. /v1/, /v2/, etc are there to just split the board population into more easily managed chunks. No segregation.Anything which you can post on one board you can post on the other.
/d/ is a great board, both in terms of comedy and fapping. That said, most of us should be able to agree that the number of futa threads can often make it hard to find other interesting/desired fetishes. I'm a fan of futa/dickgirls personally, but it can get a bit tiring sorting through these threads when you don't particularly feel like looking at them. One of the main issues surrounding this is that futa fans are very greedy with the number of new threads they make. They make one for big dicks, small dicks, balls, no balls, dicks shaped like horse dicks, bulges in clothing, etc. etc. In the end, there's a thread for almost every type of futa, blocking out the first 4 pages. What do you guys think can/should be done about this?
I'm Slimeria, I run a /d/ related 4chan crossboard group and I'm an active member of the /d/ IRC./d/ is my favorite community I've ever been a part of, and *generally* the people there are very understanding. Whereas people on /v/ are the way they are because they're a bunch of bored people trying to have fun, /d/ is like a brotherhood is misfits. They're so accepting and understanding because they really have to be, and it's a really neat thing to be a part of.Having said all that, I would really hate to see the board split since it's not terribly fast to begin with, but not only does futa get way too many separate threads, the whole thing always starts /d/rama. In a close community like /d/, drama is pretty lousy. It's not enough to just hide threads because of all the drama involved. It's exactly why we have monstergirls (and sometimes monsterboys) and giant insect rape, but no furry.I'd really prefer the board not be split, but I would love something to be done about the billion separate futa threads on *everything*. Beyond that, there are people who regularly just spam futa and keep the threads alive for upwards of MONTHS, purposefully to start drama. Some stricter policies, some moderation, anything would be nice.
A board is being spammed with relevant content that people enjoy, how terrible. The biggest problem with /d/ is the fucking terrible western art that I guess is allowed now.
I recall a screencap that had a post from a mod (or was it Moot? I can't recall.) stating that /d/ was specifically made for futanari.IMO, /d/ should be specifically for futanari and a new board should be made for alternative hentai, call it /alt/ or /ah/ or something. Just a suggestion.
>find 139 proxies>fill (in advance) 139 captchas>create a new thread with every proxy at the same time (or almost)>wait 60 seconds>delete all threads>you now have an empty board, ready to start anewI want to try that just to see if it would work.
What about a separate dickgirls/tranny/trap/CD/TV board? What about a "questionable genders" board?Anything with a questionable genders, and lovers there of are welcome.ScarJoLapsCock (Scarlett Johanson Caps Lock) needs not apply.(What about renaming /q/ to /meta/ and /q/ will be the board discussed above.)
One of the most requested boards I have ever seen on 4chan is a board for the discussion of History and other Humanities based subjects. The problem we have at the moment is the only place to discuss such issues is /pol/ and /pol/ is by far the worst board in the existence and any thread you post there will be hijacked by stormfags or "LOLOL LIBFAG GONNA LIB/CIS PRIVILEGE" trolls who ruin every thread on that board. Now the major issue for History & Humantities is the same /pol/fags trying to hijack the board with holocaust denial threads, but I think this could be countered with some clever wordfilters. So please, can we have a History & Humanities board?
>>6194I'd still like a philosophy board. Coupling it with history would make sense because the board would otherwise be slow moving and there is *some* overlap between history and philosophy
1. Read the sticky. No baord requests.2. There#s a history board on 7chan, go there.
>>6221I'd like it too. In fact, I'd like it enough to say separate it from history, to prevent the likes of "HITLER HITLER HITLER" pervading into philosophical discussion.
>>6216We have, but I think there's such a large support for a history board that it deserves serious discussion
>>6232Have you been on 7chan recently? It's slower moving than /tg/
Can there be an official mod/moot response on whether or not this kind of stuff is OK or not?I live in perpetual fear of these threads being deleted because mods don't like them, and myself banned. In case someone doesn't already know, it's an AI vs AI game streamed over the Internet with live commentators, spectators. Each soccer team is made up of players named/dressed up in the flavor of a certain board. I think this is one of the most fun things to come out of 4chan in recent memory, but if it's not OK, then I'll have to stop liking fun. For the sake of rules.
>>5934Shit's about a metaevent on 4chan and asks the mods opinion on it, so fuck off.
As a /sp/aratan really I fucking love the 4chan cup, but I've always been interested as to how big it is on other boards. Anyone care to enlighten me?
>>6020Most boards enjoy it, although none to the extent that /sp/ enjoys it. Some boards, like /jp/, almost universally hate the cup and want removed from it.
>>6048since its meta faggotry it should stay here
>>6215butthurt /jp/ dtected?
/v/ meta general
>>6211*You can't beliminate shitposts entirely
>>6211Ignoring the furries sure is working out well. Now instead of one furry thread a week like we had a year ago, it's 7-8 furry threads or derails a day with a side of constant furry tripfags, avatarfags, and attention whores.
>>6198/jp/ has GUST threads and thats about it. Mainly because they discuss the games that havent gotten a translation. Sticking some sub-genre of games somewhere else just because you dont like it isnt helping anybody: if its a (safe for work) video game it belongs on /v/. No two ways about it. Getting a discussion out of it is another thing.
>Buckley/Webcomics LOL threads.I can't stand these and there's always one up.
>>5783>XD>Reddit (yes, no one should ever mention this shit site, what's the point, it onyl makes /v/ worse)>Hipster>Weeaboo (I know it was a wordfilter before, but I bet most retards don't even know the term wapanese)>Edgy>umad>Epic>that feel when/tfw>Pedo>[Insert company]-drone>Butthurt and other variations>am i cool yet?
Sage.Protip: Make it silent. Why? Because SAGE was originally intended to be a flag you can attach to your post, and denote that YOUR post contributes nothing to the thread, as a sort of an "excuse", a way of saying, sorry guys, this is unrelated, don't mind this post. What it is now? Essentially an instant "fuck you" you can paste into the email field which serves two purposes:1) To tell someone off2) The complete opposite of its original intended purpose, because it attracts tenfold as much replies who point out that guy who just FEELS the need to type that sage into the email field. The problem could be easily solved by making sage the same as noko used to be (even though userscripts took its purpose over), a silent, completely transparent way to post in threads without a single soul knowing it. This would fix both the arguments about sage and allow for more discussion without seeing everyone spamming "hurr durr sage this shit" and smartasses who feel that putting sage in their email field makes their opinion more valuable and hard hitting.Just an idea, feel free to hate or agree.
>>6147>and they are just full of either spamThat's just world4ch and the spam is only there because no mods or janitors pay any attention to them> literally 1 guy making a post every 9 monthsI wonder how we could fix that.
>>6151It could be a cool thing to do for a week to sorta... "clean up" the userbase.WHO DO I CALL TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN
>>6137Well, I think both parties are at fault. You shouldn't choose to have a consistent identity unless it's relevant (why would you? Anonymity is awesome), but you also shouldn't whine because someone else is doing it. If anything, you're giving them exactly the sort of attention and qualification usually associated with pseudonymous/forced registration forums.Hiroyuki Nishimura wrote some great stuff about this, but I don't want to get too sidetracked.
>>6200Drop a call to 1-370-MOOTLES and we might get something.
>>6212I post anonymously all the time, and I'm perfectly fine posting that way here. Honestly, when I post with a trip, I only do it because the other side is just THAT BAD, or the trip users on that board are just THAT GOOD.I mean, I've been on plenty sites and boards where I just feel posting anonymously is the best way to get my point across, but a lot of the time, especially here on 4chan, anonymity is associated with chaos and spam.
Moot, for the love of gow, remove doubles from /a/. Why haven't you done that yet? I'm very suprised you did for /v/ and /vg/ but not /a/. The board is plagued by those threads and people constantly spam them in threads they don't like. They even created a goddamn culture around it.
>>6015No, actually they don't.Coming from /v/ it actually changed a lot after removing them.Yes, there are still people going "look at my 123910!!1" but the number of that reduced significantly.Stop always saying "they can still do XY!" when it's obvious that it helped.
>>6015Give me a single reason of why NOT to do it. What you said is not a reason. It alleviates the problems and brings no negatives. Look at the desperate people here wanting to stay. And people from /v/ making threads to bring it back.
>>4934They ruin my naruto generals waaaaa~
;_;
Dubs gets are stupid, but actually I always liked to get or check them. It feels a bit like gambling. Also it's one of the few things no other site will be able to 'steal' from 4chan.
>>4976It's very often the anonymous posters that start the shitstorm around the tripfags anyway. This was always the case, even back when taiga/lanced jack were starting shitstorms. They could start seemingly normal threads, and there'd be shitstorms regardless just because people spend more time telling tripfags why they shouldn't trip or why they're faggots and so on. Anon is basically touma.
OP of this thread here. >>/x/10693608/x/ is considering adding a sticky to its board. How would we go about ensuring we get one? Also, /x/ (especially in light of the Olympics) seems to be getting a large amount of threads we think are off-topic. Could we get some clarification on what is and isn't allowed there, or at least be allowed to determine what's on-topic and what isn't? Thanks.
>>6051We haven't written it up yet.I'm just curious how we would get one after completing it.
>>6071Neither has it been agreed on yet.
>>6071I think we should take some ideas from /fit/, /lit/ or /sci/, and keep them fairly short. e.g>[basic list of wht is on/off topic]>Astral Projection: www.com>Dreams and lucid dreaming: www.com>Brain entrainment: www.comAnd so on.
>>6187But that implies (by the links) we want a board that's all about 'hurr durr magics real', which will only harm any legitimate discussion that could go on, ('its in the sticky lolol y u so retard'), the board shouldn't be skewed either way and should remain 'neutral' and a place of discussion.
