I'm kind of disappointed with the seemingly indiscriminate deleting of threads in /v/. It's so random how it works, too. I'll make a clearly defined videogame thread, it'll go to like fifty posts, and then deleted. And yet I see numerous blatantly non-vidya threads filling the front page.I'd love an answer for the reasoning behind this, but failing that, I'd like to know how a janitor even works. Do people report threads, and the janitor sees a list of reported threads and just deletes them? Maybe the janitors are just deleting any reported thread without actually seeing what the thread even is?For example:>ass thread = fine by janitors>favorite game mosaic thread = deleted>vidya porn thread = absolutely fine>stories of friends being cheap when it comes to videogames = a thread I made was deleted just moments ago despite being ON TOPICModerator Replies: >>922 >>950 >>1133
Do you realize how fast boards go?I'm sure the janitors are sitting there refreshing every 5 seconds and removing stuff you don't like. I'd wager most of them are on 4chan to converse with moderation being secondary. That's true for any sort of moderator, really, but I'd say even moreso for someone with as little power as a janitor.
>>867You have a point, but surely people are reporting these offtopic threads. I report every nonvidya thread I see pending some exceptions that could be construed as loosely videogame related, and nothing is done of it.Even if 4chan goes fast, these threads constantly dominate the front page of /v/, last for hours, and oftentimes get to 200+ posts. Why a janitor can't see this is beyond me.
1. Post an archive link to the clearly defined video game thread you think was unjustly deleted.2. A thread not being deleted does not instantly indicate the janitor or mod has seen it and thought "THATS OKAY"
>>867Basically this.I would imagine that there are a lot of threads that are being deleted so fast you really don't get to see it. Yes, there are certainly a lot of off-topic threads that get by, but the timing at which the janitor sees it is probably just off as to what's on the front page at the time.On the other hand, I am with you on you're complaint of related threads getting deleted. I feel that the janitors currently have problems distinguishing what is good and what is bad, or maybe they are just trying to enforce their own beliefs as to how a thread should be. Considering janitors are not permitted to talk about their work, we might never know that.
If you think a janitor is deleting perfectly ontopic threads, contact the mods on the 4chan IRC with the thread that was deleted. You can use the archive (http://archive.foolz.us/v/) as proof if needed.
Also, the following applies to every board:Just because you see an offtopic thread that wasn't deleted while another one was, that does NOT mean the janitor/mod intentionally made that choice. More often than not, the userbase simply did not report the post enough and thus escaped our attention.
Agreed with OP. The work-safeness of /v/ is rarely enforced.
Can't you guys just increase the number of moderators in /v/?I give the benefit of the doubt that moderators are not lazy, just lacking and /v/ is literally the most off-topic board I've come across.
>>977Mods aren't board specific.
>>958Last time it was enforced, some of them threw a big shitfit over their NSFW posts being deleted.
>>994You serious? I thought they were. Or at least those non-mods in charge of deleting content.
>>977I'd be hard pressed to say that /v/ is the 2nd most populous (see what I did here?) board on 4chan, second to /b/. /v/ moves faster than /a/, even. Since /b/ is generally "all things go" save for illegal content, it would make sense to have /v/ as the most moderator-dense board in 4chan. Especially considering it is constantly off-topic.>>922>>950Thank you for the responses. I guess the problem does lie a lot on the community as well. No one reports nonvidya, mods/janitors can't see and delete nonvidya save for witnessing it themselves. This doesn't change the fact that /v/ is heavily undermoderated, however.
>>1015I've seen quite a few dumps suddenly get deleted. It's certainly enforced, just people choose to actively disregard it.
>>1024janitors are board specificall mods are global
>>1027the entire site is undermoderated, did you read that news post?
Here's my thread that was deleted, by the way.http://archive.foolz.us/v/thread/150255685/
>>1116I hope to god you're not trying to imply that thread is on-topic.
>>1116your thread is crying about how your friends are poor, and quickly degrades into a shitty feel thread that contributes nothing but whining about your life.get fucked, it was deleted with good cause
>>1133It's like 90% videogames. I have no control over what other people post in my thread, most of the replies have been videogame related.
>>1116This is exactly the kind of shit I'm talking about. People think if they post and image of a video game or throw in the words "video games"/"vidya" it's magically on topic.
>>1161Even at the start it was about as video game related as those feel threads you usually see lying around, probably because that's what it was in all but name.
>>950How could they possibly escape your attention if you're a chantard and therefore addictively browse the boards for hours on end (unless you're don't, in which case I applaud you)? Or is it a rule that you can only moderate reported posts?
>>1373Staff aren't watching 4chan 24/7.Sometimes they like to do other things like play video games.
>>1394the only mod that actually plays video games is that battlefield fag and nobody likes him.
Spoilers, OP: /v/ moves at such a pace that your VIDEOGAME THREAD fell off the back of the board. If your thread hasn't gotten a reply in 30 minutes, its probably on page 8-10 by now.All the non-vidya spammed it away. Its not the fault of the janitors, just your peers.
>>1461That's cute and all, but you can stop.
How is this not video games? Serious question, not trying to be rude.
>>1394Well
I do
. There honestly should be more NEETs moderating this board, at least they all the time in the world to get stuff done. Also,>porn posted in one thread>mods/janitors only delete half of them, leaving out the porn posted earlierSeriously, how could not notice that?
>>1491Maybe because you're talking about what people do when playing games, not the game itself?
>>1501chances are only some of the porn was reported and the janitor just deleted it from the reports page and never opened the thread
>>1491Wow. half of those "off topic" posts are just as videogame related as your thread (aka just barely)
Hi i was redirected here, tried to make a thread>>1427Alot of these responses imply that you think the board moves to fast and it's nobody's fault. So if 'in theory' the moderation is already good (ha), then we would at the very least need more of it.>>1116This is a debate that its not per say an actual videogame thread but slightly videogame related, i think its not video game related enough.but if its a huge news related thing like the whole SOPA storm, that should be allowed. One more thing, forced anon on /vg/ would be an excellent idea considering after /v/ was split in 2, /vg/ is overrun with the kind of tripfags that do whatever it takes to get replies and atention. Also we still have an extremely hard time telling when a game series' threads get pushed to /vg/ or back to /v/.
>>1541If moot says that deep sea and 4AM generals are allowed on /v/, it's inane to ban the sharing of screenshots of the types of people we've encountered in online gaming.
>>1572This is the problem with "/v/ culture." You want to include all the off-topic.
>>1544I made that pic, here's the updated version. It's obviously someone trying to be a marketeer.
ok something is definitely amuck when i see threads like these deleted in under a minutewas just about to post in it telling him to come to /q/>>>/v/150268227please fix /v/ in a way that doesn't split the community in half again
>>18338. Complaining about 4chan (its policies, moderation, etc.) on the imageboards can result in post deletion and banishment. The administrator will address your questions, comments, complaints, and concerns via e-mail. Constructive criticism and feedback should be posted to /q/.Stop trying to pretend that you aren't shitposting when you are.
>>1833You want a guy who's shitposting in here? Are you retarded or something?
>>1871>>1858no i'm saying everyone on /v/ is begging for better moderation and you can see it on the average page
https://archive.foolz.us/v/search/text/Janitor/deleted/deleted/order/desc/
>>1923look at all those pony posts. Why can't they just IP range ban them?
>>1923At least ponyshit is getting deleted.
>>1923oh look, a wall of shitposts that were all deleted
>>1958Because IP Range bans don't work the way you think they do.
>>1516But that's video game related.>>1491This takes the cake.>>1133>>922>>950I know this thread is specifically about /v/, but /vg/ should be noted as well as having next to no moderation. I remember specifically an instance of being in this general threadhttp://archive.foolz.us/vg/thread/2999520/And having tons of spam, gay porn, and loli doujins spammed nonstop for over 3 hours. It wasn't just that specific thread, it was nearly any TERA general created within that time frame.Ironically this started right after this TERA general was deleted by a mod/janitor.http://archive.foolz.us/vg/thread/2987118/#q2987118So there, here is direct proof, at least on /vg/'s side of things that mods/janiors don't exist, as well as deleting perfectly on topic threads while allowing . I don't have the post numbers for many other threads that were being spammed as I was only recording TERA's.The excuse may be that /vg/ was a fresh board, but iirc it was well over a month after being created. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but wouldn't you say that the mods and janitors are incredibly mismanaged? As much as my post is about /vg/ I could go on and on about the off topic posting in /v/. I mean even a mod created and stickied a topic asking /v/ why they don't hang out at new york bars.Pic very related, how could you ever allow a mod who would post this, manage a board like /v/?http://archive.foolz.us/v/thread/141511638/Also this is evidence from a few months ago, but as far as I can see nothing has changed.
It's the Illuminati. They control 4chan and boards like /v/ and /b/ in particular. Or the mods and janitors are just shit.
What about:>>>>/v/150264817Currently:>Starts with a non vidya gif>Suddenly wild 200+ posts appere
>>21474am threads usually die quick, unless there is some fag(s) spamming gets or complaining about how its not vidya
>>2147That's just /v/ "culture". I don't see a reason to make action against it.
I can't be the only one that thinks this, but would you guys agree that this vitriol surrounding so-called ironic shitposting isn't helping the situation at all?Not saying it's at all good, but every time I see someone post 'lel epic for the win xDDDDDDDDDDDD' or something similar, it almost always derails a thread, and nothing is done about it. This probably stems from the fact that there's a certain camp in /v/ that thinks any form of inside joke or meme is bad. I think their intense hatred of this fact has caused a sort of split in the community at large. Think of it like there's two camps of people. The first doesn't really want anything to do with memes or inside jokes and would rather discuss video games as if each thread were a separate conversation between strangers. The second camp would be the type of people that feel /v/ should be a living breathing community with it's own defined tastes and humor.Variations on this vitriol symphony include the hate towards reddit, which has spawned numerous image macros making fun of the style primarily used in reddit's more Andy Warhol-esque humor. While a particularly nice jab at the primary ideals in Camp 1, it actually just ends up throwing the whole of Camp 2 under the bus when these start catching on. There's been countless image macros made in this style and it's getting quite ridiculous, sacrificing a community's talents for humor on piteous jabs at separate parts of the community.
>>1144Agreed. Certainly mods can be faggots sometimes but I know blatant shitposting when I see it. Keep your faggy little feels on r9k.
>>2537Not to side specifically with either group, I think /v/ should have its own culture. But not one centered around hate of itself or its own community. There would still be room for "keep crying, bitch nigger, that level will stay unfinished" but there needs to be more room for /v/ to be able to discuss things - even if they're flavor of the week type things - and still maintain its dignity and tastes. The humor of the board needs to not come from the same tired, years old jokes. The jokes should come from the board, and the content discussed by the board - video games. It's fine to have the wacky threads from time to time, they're okay and break up the monotony of just discussing video games all day erry day.But when a board's main jokes don't even come from the topic of the board, and are slowly but surely mirroring that of a site the board claims to hate, then there is a large problem. This ironic shitposting thing has grown out of hand, and it's grown so out of hand it's affecting the discourse of the board. /v/ has become so mad at a certain group that it can't see that it's becoming that group's mirror image, one where threads with dissenting opinions are spammed or saged into oblivion, one where anything that's not about an already defined 'good game' is either viral marketing or a troll, one where every new game is going to be a flop, regardless of what it is.
>>2664This has become a culture where the reason we SEE all of these off topic threads is because the people that could be doing real good are doing no good at all. The people that should be reporting the off topic threads are busy bitching at somebody for liking a game, believing in their own arrogance that they're helping the board. All the while >tfw no gf.
Does anyone hope that when the new janitor applications open up that /v/ will be moderated a bit more than it is now?
daily reminder 3 things that are 4ever allowed :)
hey moot, I'm pretty sure you're the one who posted this, so does it still hold?Cause I sure am not deleting such a priceless post.
