Every user should read this. And if you're looking for a blast from the past, check out the archived news posts.

/q/ is now open for business, and has already sparked a number of great discussions and changes to the site. Here's one on why 4chan doesn't accept donations and what you can do to support the site.

In my experience, organizations that do good to help their fellow man are more likely to succeed. We could plan some conservation projects in various cities or even park cleanups where anons can meet, do some volunteer work, have some pizza and ultimately do some good for the community, while looking great to potential investors. Something like this could generate better ads on the website because projects like this appeal to companies. Just a thought.

This is, of course if the neckbeard bikini car wash is a fail...

We do not need more publicity.
>>
Eat a dick op.
>>
>>77234
This.

OP, go back to Reddit.
>>
>>77234
this kind of publicity would be nothing like what we're experiencing with all the anarchists claiming to be anons on o'reilly. also, it would be nothing like the publicity that we get from any news station when anon is mentioned. believe me, if anything, this would also help deter cancer. you can't honestly think this would hurt anything, do you?
>>
we do give back to the community though, we just blame reddit after it's done.
>>
>>77249
>>77261
i'm sorry, i forgot that most of you already have plans for summer...
>>
>>77270
Remember that birthday shit /b/ did for that old man, where a bunch of people not just from /b/, but from other boards too showed up and hung out with him and shit? Who was it that got credit for it? 4chan? No. It was Reddit.

Go suck a fuck.
>>
>>77279
at the end of the day, whether it works to help out the site or not, isn't the entire point that we're helping out the community? yeah, it is. you don't have to show up.
>>
>>77216
I think this is a great idea anon, most of the dumb shits who have replied are merely that, dumb shits. maybe they'll grow up one day.

It's great to do something good for the world, honestly it doesn't need to be in the name of 4chan. just an anon cleanup.

I like the idea of anonymous people who don't know each other yet who share the same "identity" getting together and helping each other and the world out. Let's do it, Texas chapter friendly anon helpers anyone?
>>
>>77296
>Says 4chan needs more publicity
>Suddenly it isn't about publicity
Lel.
>>
>>77298
I'm in Pittsburgh, myself, but I'd be willing to travel to say... NYC or DC.

>>77315
I'm not saying we need or don't need it. If we got it, it'd be better than what we usually get, possibly driving better ad-based revenue. If we don't get any publicity at all, a bunch of anons got together and did something good. Probably getting some out of their basements. But I guess the basement dwellers would scoff at an idea like this.
>>
>>77216
>4chan gives back
I didn't take anything in the first place!
>>
>>77315
>says something that means something
>suddenly its like he didn't say anything at all
>>
>>77339
If you want to help things, go to volunteer.
>>
>>77339
Yea I'm down for a DC anon thing
>>
>>77345
I do. And now I'm hoping to get some volunteers from a large community that I consider myself to be a part of. If this isn't your thing, you don't need to participate.

>>77352
I suppose i'll have to be the organizer for something in Pittsburgh, but if you put together something in DC, I'll be down there no problem.
>>
>>77279
>Doing charity work/being a nice guy to get credit for it.
Asshole.
>>
Although a good idea, probably get used by the people on the boards who would try to organize raids and such like /k/, /o/, /diy/, /fit/, and /pol/'s scheme of overtaking a city for themselves a few weeks ago.
>>
>>77413
I'm pretty sure that people would see this as something fun and productive to do with fellow anons. It was just a thought, though.
>>
I wouldn't even care if we got credit or not, though it would help if we wore 4chan-related shirts - plain white with something you put on, what board your browse, whatever - but all in all I think it's a great idea, OP. I've actually been wishing for more 4chan meet-ups. We're not all psychotic.
>>
>>77480
yeah, maybe something we made ourselves, rather than something another company made because there really is no official 4chan merchandise, for good reason, might i add.

I hope this catches on. I'm thinking that we could get together early, pack our own lunch. take care of some shit (anons like me can provide tools, paint, whatever we may need), then all head somewhere fun in the evening.

I'd be willing to volunteer time to planning this once a year for my city, as well as travel to one or two other cities for a meetup like this.
>>
We also need a charity that will take 4chan people. Has to be unambiguously a good cause, something that will start a minimal amount of flamewars.
>>
yep, we could just buy place white tees and use sharpies to draw something. simple as you want, or complex.

every major city should have anon meet up for a good cause. it would give us a larger voice in the community and we'd be doing some good for our cities.

i'm all up for organizing something in texas.
>>
>>77509
It doesn't have to be a charity. Stuff like this can be organized all on our own account. It's easy.

>Call city parks dept.
>Tell them you have this many volunteers and suggest a place you know or ask for a place
>Say we wish to work there this day
>Schedule it with them and you're done!
>>
Should we add /vol/ to the board suggestions thread?
>>51515
Or do you think it would not get enough traffic? Assuming no boards will be created, where would be the right place to organize these things? The obvious place would be /soc/, but that will be a problem since a lot of people who would help out don't necessarily want to wade through 1000 dick pictures to find the thread.
>>
Trouble posting for some reason...

>>
>>77523
I wonder what would be the best way to organize something like this on this site. Flooding boards with requests to volunteer just sounds like a bad idea, but may be the only solution. I may make an email address for pittsburgh to post and see how many people would email me saying they're interested. If I only get 3 people to volunteer, i guess it's better than nothing, but i would still be disappointed.
>>
>>77216
Fuck you op, you are the kind of people that are killing this site.
>>
>>77540
From what i've read, adding boards on here is hard due to increasing traffic on a heavily trafficked site, as well as it not being worth it if nobody goes on there. I dont think /vol/ would see a lot of people. Maybe once a year, during the summer, requesting a sticky on /soc/?
>>
>>77543
it starts with one anon. the first meet up might just be you and that weird fat guy, but thats a start.

not /soc/ that boards a honeypot for losers. we'll figure something out.
>>
>>77559
no, you are. i suggest you do some reading:

>>75936

remember to lurk moar!
>>
How about anonymously going out at night in balaclavas cleaning shit up, reverse vandalism. Individual recognition does not matter.
>>
How much wood could a wood chuck chuck fuck luck test?
>>
>>77591
ehhh too profound to catch on. we're still in the stone age here anon. if we're doing something to help the community people want to be recognized. i'd say 1/10 volunteers do it without wanting people to know it.
>>
>>77581
wow, you sure told me kid, now, seriously, go back to reddit.
>>
>>77606
you are the cancer. go back to /b/ or you nickleback /mu/ thread, your narute board suggestion thread, or your mlp brony thread, just go, k thx
>>
>>77632
hahahaha
10/10
>>
>>77591
pretty cool, but we'd also have to make sure we aren't breaking any laws. okay, we could go around picking cans up of the streets, but cleaning up parks and such could end up being illegal considering they already have people that are paid to do it and just suck at it, and going in at night would technically be trespassing.

>>77602
If they want recognition, then they can call the papers and put their name next to anon, anon, and anon.

It's depressing seeing the world go to shit before my very eyes. The places i've went to as a kid, i'm seeing again for the first time in 20 years and they're full of scum and garbage now. How many anons are out there that feel the same way? How many anons would be willing to give a day of their lives to help turn this back? Matter of fact, I'm kind of being greedy here because I know that i will benefit by making friends and enjoying the entire day.
>>
I may shoot moot an email about this and see what he thinks. I doubt he'd get back to me, because apparently he is shit at answering emails, but it would be nice to get admin's opinion and maybe some suggestions. I certainly would not want to plan anything officially until i got his permission.
>>
I created an email address for use in something like this.

betterchanpgh@gmail.com

anyone wanting to participate or organize this in a different city, i'd love to hear from you. i also think that all organizers should collaborate.
>>
I just shot moot an email to show him this thread, in case it's off the first page when/if he comes onto /q/ today. I'm no good at setting things up alone, but I would love to help out however either here in Buffalo or even in Erie, which is a couple hours away.
>>
>>77778
I'd definitely be down for a trip to erie.
>>
>>77797

Great! If there are more Anons in Erie than Buffalo (likely, because Buffalo sucks) then I'll definitely make the trip down. We can order awesome food and hang out and all have a fun time, while helping out the city.
>>
>>77835
there's a bar there that sells 75 cent pitchers... can't remember where, but their pizza is amazing, too. penn state girls aplenty
>>
a more 4chan like proposal:
We make a viking-reenactment charity project, plundering, burning and raping one city at a time. Thus spreading historical awareness, doing what /b/ does and giving the survivors gratefulness being spared.
Everybody wins!
1% of the money could go into 4chan-servers
1% for the Global Weapons Of Mass Destruction Distribution Fund
98% in a yet-to-be-founded /b/-porn-production-studio.
>>
That is a great idea. Let's have an organized, competitive volunteering community that strives for the upkeep of parks and stuff. Pretty much all of volunteering orders are organized by many companies and stuff, yo.
>>
>>77843

I don't personally drink, but overall that sounds nice. I went down there for a weekend about six months ago and the general area around Splash Lagoon is loaded with amazing looking (but very busy) restaurants. Shit, let's just go to Splash Lagoon after. Best place.
>>
>>77907
i'd totally be down for splash lagoon! i'd also be down for anons barbecuing in the park, as to avoid restaurants being too packed.

also.... no guy fawkes masks

be sure to email me as i'd like to keep this going after i close my browser and this thread goes into oblivion
>>
>>77216
Personally I think this would be cool. It isn't about publicity, it is about being good people. Right on!
>>
>>77919

A barbecue would be sweet, too. Let's do this! I'll shoot you an email now so I don't forget, haha. If this thread dies without a moot response, though, we can always make another one tomorrow or something. I'd like to know what he thinks about this idea.
>>
>>77943
thank you, sir. feel free to send an email, i was hoping to hear some feedback from some mods. let me know what the other's have to say as well as any suggestions you guys may have for me
>>
bumping to keep this out of 404 land.
>>
getting a lot of great responses for this. keep them coming anons. i just wish it wasn't so late in the year already. this is going to take some planning
>>
Is anyone other than me experienced in setting things like this up?

>>77943
Hell yeah! I'm totally game for meeting new people and giving a helping hand. Let's turn this into the new face of 4chan!
>>
>>78304
well... i wouldn't say that i would want to give 4chan a new face...

i know there are a lot of anons out there that would love to do this as well and considering there are so many of us, we can accomplish a lot.
>>
>>78313
We sure have in the past. It's totally possible.
>>
>>78317
I just hope this is something that sparks enough interest and takes off instead of just being an idea that gets forgotten. I'll continue to push the issue, but I don't want to spam the boards with volunteer requests. That would be really annoying.
>>
Just periodically make a thread every 4 months or something, see if anyone is still interested.
>>
This would be kind of cool, especially if it were board dependent. /v/ could have a video game tourney for charity, /ck/ could have a bake sale, /r9k/ could start videos of suicides, and /b/ would show up to all of these events and throw shit at everyone else.

>Joking aside, it would be kinda cool.
>>
>>78346
The only issue with that is that 95% of the people that would be interested would never see it.
>>
>>78349
Interesting thought, but being board specific, in my opinion, would stretch anons too thin. Would be cool, though.
>>
>>78349
*start selling videos
Bah!
>>78364
Rotate it around, then. Do something with a different board theme every now and then. Although it might be hard to get someone who's into music to go to something anime related, or anything else they might not care for.
>>
>>77216
Yeah, I like the sentiment, but I'm never going to get behind some green eco bullshit that only really serves to suck off your ego. If you want to do something good, put your money where your mouth is and do something big on a small scale like SA goons did when they adopted that village in africa and actually built them a fucking community centre and bought text books in the native language so all the kids could actually receive an education.
>>
>>78378
But that's a lot more work than joining a facebook group to fight childhood obesity.
>>
>>78385
Like I said, sucking off their ego.
>>
>>77279
>4chan causes some terrible shit or bothers a bunch of people
>reddit takes the blame
>4chan does something nice for an old man
>reddit takes the blame

I mean, seems fair.
>>
File: 1344811817894.png-(94 KB, 821x795, co shirt.png)
94 KB
>>78349
Yeah, we could all make shirts that have our board on it as we rotate yearly on whose turn it is to do something good. Although, as >>78364
said, it might be stretching the few anons who want to do this too thin and probably not as likley but independent board service is a cool idea.
>>
>>78378
Nobody is trying to stroke their own ego. I'm not a greenfag or anything and i'm not saying we should go suck off trees, or even plant them, for that matter, but i'd personally rather do something to help out locally, in my own city, state, country. I help out Africa enough every year when I pay my taxes. None of this has to be monetary. And it will all be done anonymously.
>>
>>78407
>tshirts
No.
>>
>>78408

This. I'm not trying to get some kind of weird hippy cred for helping out. I just like helping my community/state/country/whatever. I donate to charity whenever I have the money to, and while adopting a small village in Africa would be awesome, I think it's out of our reach right now. I'm fairly certain none of us are rich.

Personally, if I go I have full intentions of using a false name. Something generic. Mostly because my name is insanely unique and makes me easily identifiable, but also because I don't want my name attached to anything. I'm not looking for people to congratulate me on being what every person should be.
>>
>>78411
yeah, i'm not really sold on the shirt idea. i suppose if you want to sharpie yourself a white tee or whatever there really can't be any harm in that. The point of all of this is, is anonymously doing something helpful and fun for the anons. Meeting fellow anons. You know that anyone coming to one of these would be the good anons.

C'mooon be a good sport.
>>
>>78463
but if something like this was made, someone would be benefiting from it. i understand that it's cool to wear your team jersey, but what is our team all about? Being anons. Lets be anons. Lets be good anons that are out to have a fun and productive day and not make it about shirts or our identities.
>>
If you want to help other people you can do it without getting 4chan involved. There is nothing that's stopping you.
>>
>>78486
>>78486
Yeah you're right that is the better way to do things. Doing good for the sake of doing good. Not for credit and not to change the face of a website.

I'm in PA as well OP, although I'm pretty much as south of PA as you can get. But I've driven up to NYC before so i'm game for that as well as D.C.
>>
>>78493
I do, don't you worry about that. Involving 4chan just sounds like a great way of doing something we can all enjoy on a bigger scale. There's plenty of positive feedback so far and if you don't want to come, feel free to stay home that day. Nobody is forcing this on anyone. Honestly, I just thought it would be a great excuse for a meetup. All great organizations do things like this. Why should anonymous not?
>>
>>78512
Be sure to hit up the email i've provided on here. Are you close to Pittsburgh?
>>
tl;dr

If this is something you would like to do why don't you just go back to the days of project chanology. Plan something on a board, everyone show up in apparent flash mob fashion and clean the shit out of a park for like 30 min and disappear. After a while in hard hit communities such as Detroit etc will be all like WTF and 4chan can be all like "highfive bro."

Again, tl;dr maybe this was mentioned. Deal with it.
>>
>>78532
I'm 5 hours away.
>>
>>78549
because any sort of progress can't be done in a clusterfuck like that.

tl;dr:
this thread is suggesting a day long meetup where we do something like this. i've mentioned doing it in an organized way. your idea could get people arrested or shot. there are adult ways of doing things. try it.
>>
>>78591
Erm, i don't really understand your logic. i didn't say show up and spray paint mudkips on a jungle gym. I said do something constructive and honestly i don't imagine even if there was anything like this that was successfully coordinated that more than maybe 20-30 people show up. Where the fuck do you live where you have to worry about getting shot while cleaning a park? This aint Harlem, G. anyways churches and whatnot plan these types of things all the time. And i'm pretty sure they don't get arrested or shot.
>>
>>77943

When I finally realized 4chan is a empty, hollow, hippy, all-loving shell of itself.

What happened to the hate? If 4chan doesn't have hate it mine as well just destroy itself and become 9FAG or pinterest.

I blame MOOT for letting this faggotry happen.
>>
>>78632
You're the one that mentioned detroit. Churches plan them correctly by setting something up with the city. Even if you go and paint a vandalized building with a fresh solid color, it's still vandalism if you don't have permission.

This is what 2ch does isn't it? Organize a vast anonymous clean up of a city centre as a form of protest.

If ever we need to protest something, sure.

Otherwise, fuck no. We really don't need another huge surge of people coming here, let alone a huge surge of people thinking we're style social activists.

Ever since the Chanology bullshit there was an increase in moralfags and white knights. This would just do the same thing, only more so.
>>
>>78685
It's not going to surge anyone here. Once again. Good excuse for a meetup, good excuse to do something we can all benefit from. If you can't understand why this would be a good idea... how are you still alive?
>>
>>78657
Youre right
I remember back in the earlier days of 4chan, going back to about 2006/2007 now, when moot would post stuff like
"hey I'm going down the park, wanna come and throw some frisbee and hang out"
people went, they went there not to cause trouble, not to prove how anon they were, not to say "hey fuck I met moot"
but just to say "wow if we can get some frisbee together maybe we can do other stuff" and I think this thread reminds me of them older days
fuck these cancerous newfags who think /b/ was about the hate
4chan has never been about /b/ its about 4chan
>>
>>77413
It was Detroit, it started out as a crazy plan by /pol/ but then the other boards jumped on it as a plan to revitalize the city and even tried to get some Detroit Anons advise on it.

>>78641

9fag and Pinterest are both places that regurgitate information they found elsewhere. 4chan, especially in the past, created things. There's a marked difference there.

Two, not everyone on 4chan needs to be a bitter teenager raging against everyone and everything. If you don't like the idea, give legitimate reasons why or get the fuck out. Simple as that.
>>
>>78714
I remember in 2008 when Moot did that, it started off good but then a bunch of Chanology fags ruined it.
>>
>>78731

as long as we keep this as a hangout event and keep politics and protest out of it, hopefully it will just end with some anons having a good time together.

This kind of thing will only worsen it.

OP, this is cool and all, but it's a little too gay, to be honest. The last thing we need now is MORE publicity, negative or not. Don't come in here and try and change shit to suit you.
>>
Even though I agree in principle with the op. You know theres a reason that what the op is saying is impractical.
It's because theres always some nutcases who think any group has to be defined by how different it is to others, rather than being defined simply by its own principles. Example
moot wants a game of frisbee with some /b/tards
so the /b/tards show up and a few get it, they totally get it...
we are /b/tards enjoying frisbee knowing we are /b/tards and yet blending in anonymously with society
but then the morons turn up proclaiming how they are edgy /b/tards and they are the elite for their private little joke is the catalyst they needed to simply become assholes

Always remember, on the internet you dont have to be a /b/tard to be an asshole, you just have to be an asshole

and really /b/ has never been about being an asshole its always until 2009 been about being funny and original
it was only after 2008/2009 that it was about bveing an asshole

I suppose all those raids and hounding people to suicide from pre '08 wasn't being an asshole somehow.

You either have selective memory or were oblivious.

No, you simply misread the whole situation
99 times out of 100 something would happen like a kid commits suicide then some troll comes along and fabricates evidence showing /b/ hounded them to death
for the most part /b/ has always disaappeared up its own asshole
and claimed responsibility for things it never had a part in

I guess the distinction he is making is that that stuff was being an asshole because they found it funny.
But now /b/ is of the attitude that you must be an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.

Well yeah, I'm saying that they were assholes at other people too.

Now that I'd agree with. "lulz" is a dirty word these days, and there's hardly any more funny fuckery going on.

That "feminism.org" hack excluded.
