Overmoderation is only going to make 4chan more like Reddit. I'm not one of those people who act like Reddit is so much worse than/different from 4chan, but 4chan is good for what it is: an anonymous completely free medium of exchanging information and images.

What we need to do is encourage quality posting to hide these threads, ignoring them and hiding them doesn't take away from the fact that they exist. Soon they'll be filling up your boards and you'd be hiding them daily just to delude yourself into thinking that the posts you didn't hide are the only posts that make up the board

Ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away. It makes the problem more persistant and annoying, and, in a way, it helps it multiply. Trust me, I have tried ignoring people with bad attitudes. While I was paying no attention to them, more people became like them. Don't ever ignore stupid people, and especially don't ignore stupid ideas. Tell them straight then and there why they're full of shit and what they're doing wrong. They just might smarten up. If you don't, they will spread their idiocy and nobody will be reasoned with.
