Currently, the rules of /toy/ state:2. Absolutely no Japanese figurines. Action figures are permitted.I can see why this was added in the beginning, but now it merely creates more problems than it solves. We get many newcomers on /toy/ who have questions about statues, as they think that if other toys are allowed, then so are Japanese statues. Those posts are used as excuses to troll or flame. The defense of the trolling/flaming is "well, it's against the rules so it's okay for us to do so". It leads to an overall coarsening of discussion on /toy/, and drives away a lot of potential new board users. It also leads to a lot of backdoor modding and rules-related pedantry.Given that they are just plastic figures without joints, and statues from every other country are allowed, I request that rule 2 on /toy/ be removed. The specific rule against "hot glue" remains, so any really bad pictures will still be violations.By removing rule 2, a significant point of contention and trouble spot for /toy/ will be removed, while not dramatically changing the overall composition of /toy/. There are enough fans of other types of toys that it would not over-whelm discussion.Thank-you for your time and consideration.
I want buyfag threads to stay on /a/.
>>5545Lemme guess. /toy/ sometimes has some meta-threads arguing over this?
>>5705Well, more that someone comes on and asks a question about a statue. Sometimes the answers are civil- "statues are against the rules, go to /a/ for that", and sometimes it descends into trolling and flaming. I just figure that it's a rule that has outlived its usefulness, and now does more harm then good.
>>5754You're not looking at the big picture. /a/ users don't want statue threads on /toy/.
>>5787My primary focus is on /toy/, not /a/. There are many users who come by to ask questions about statues on /toy/, and it seems like a natural place to ask them. If /a/ wants to talk about anime-related merchandise on /a/, that's their business. Nothing about this rule change will inhibit them from doing so, it will just improve /toy/.
>Absolutely no Japanese figuresSo basically it would turn into a child playground?
>>5854I'm not sure I understand you.
>>5868I completely misread and misunderstand the entire thing.Forgive me.
>>5838The problem with that is when you consider the existing userbase of /toy/ and their dislike for statues. Changing a rule won't change anything except have more people complain about "statueshit".It's like saying "all VNs should go on /jp/" when it's extremely obvious that the nature of /jp/ will drive everyone who cares for it out of there. It's a similar issue for the amount of /a/ drawthreads that show up these days too; while I personally enjoy contributing in them, they aren't /a/ related so much as they are /ic/ related, but /ic/ is completely inappropriate because of the nature of the board.
/toy/ is for /co/ related figures and /a/ is for anime related figures.>>5838Bullshit, it'll just lead to /a/ being forced to post their statue threads on /toy/.
>>5894Well, I think it's more fair to say that only some of the /toy/ userbase really hate statues (but then again, many of them hate anything anime-related). There's another equally-large group who would like to see statues discussed on /toy/. I agree that they would continue shitposting, but now they wouldn't have a rule justification for doing so, and could be more easily controlled. This would also remove the pedant's justification for attacking statue threads.
>>5911>/toy/ is for /co/ related figures and /a/ is for anime related figures.Except that's not true- /toy/ is for toys. When it comes to action figures, all are accepted. It's just statues that have a distinction.>Bullshit, it'll just lead to /a/ being forced to post their statue threads on /toy/.I don't see why that would happen. The moderation team on 4chan doesn't have to force a change like that. But again, my primary focus is /toy/ and helping out that board.
>>5894The main issue is that the drawthreads are almost always waifu-orientated, the large majority of which originate from some form of anime or manga which is also true of statues.I dont really know why those daily Japanese learning threads took up residence in /a/, though. We have an entire (text-based) board to the subject of learning languages.
>>5911One of the "memes" from /toy/ is related to figma which are a japanese brand, that isn't true.>>5941Playing devil's advocate for a minute, statues aren't really "toys" in a strict sense, though. They're decorations, because of a lack of articulation for creative posing and what-have you. I'd say that trialling it would be a good move, but at the same time there's nothing to say the people against it wouldn't be increasingly vocal to drive it off the board, and statues are a rather large category if allowed in full force, which would drive a lot of the existing threads away which may appeal to more of the board.>>5989I believe a mod actually mentioned that the Japanese Learning threads were okay because it could give rise to more translations etc. Similar to the point I made above, they mentioned how making people go to /jp/ for those sorts of threads wasn't an option because of the hostility there (and the fact that a lot of /jp/ already know the language to a degree).
I can see this causing unnecessary drama.
>>6044>statues aren't really "toys" in a strict senseI have seen this argument, but if it is truly the case, then shouldn't western statues go to /co/? Perhaps all I am looking for is a greater consistency in the rules.I can see where you are coming from, but I think that there are enough fans of other topics to prevent statues from getting out of control. Transformers, especially, are very strong on the board.>>6123I feel that the current rule creates even more unnecessary drama, but I can understand your position. Perhaps at first the rule change would lead to an increase in trouble, but I think that over time it would lead to /toy/ becoming a more welcoming and less dramatic board (at least around the subject of statues).
