How and why did this become an insult here? I get that it has a funny name, and has become this decade's version of ADHD when it comes to self-diagnosis and over-diagnosis, but this shit gets old. Am I the only one who would love to see a word filter change any variation into something more interesting? As an insult, it's lazy and become stale. And before I'm misunderstood, I'm not particularly angry about it's status, more annoyed at how repetitive people are in it's miss-use as an insult or something terrible to have. Maybe I'm alone on this issue, but I feel it's at least worth pointing out.

>here

Asperger's is more of a Finnish thing online. Pic related

We all have autism here instead
>>
>>282881
I meant both, since they're related and both used here. Probably should've been more specific.
>>
>>282870 (OP)
it's simple anon

retarded is the new gay
>>
>>282899
As soon as something gets a lot of media coverage IE Asperger's, autism etc, idiots like us tend to pick up on it and create insults and [I hate this word] 'memes' about it.

I've not been there for a while but when you used to sage a thread on Ylilauta's /int/ board, the word 'assburger' would appear in the email field.

>As soon as something gets a lot of media coverage IE Asperger's, autism etc, idiots like us tend to pick up on it and create insults and [I hate this word] 'memes' about it.

I get that, I just find it weird that most people using it as an insult don't even know what it entails. Maybe it just makes no sense as an insult to me because I'm not one of the many excuse-makers parading around the internet being asshole shut-ins.
>>
>>282913
Basically it's just something else to take the piss out of. Pretty much what >>282900
said.

Next year there'll be some other thing to mock.
>>
>Maybe I'm alone on this issue
Not even a little bit. I feel exactly the same.
>>
Replace the word with Perywinkle
>>
>>282913
>I get that, I just find it weird that most people using it as an insult don't even know what it entails.
It's gone the way of "edgy" and "hipster". Both are words that can be used to negatively describe someone who is acting, well, edgy, or someone who is an obvious hipster, yet both of them somehow devolved into generic insults to throw at anyone that you don't agree with on 4chan. It's kind of the same concept as "faggot" no longer strictly being a pejorative against homosexuals.

I'm sure people first started using it in the right context, calling someone who had a beta/spaghetti moment a sperglord or whatever, and that has just devolved in the same way to calling anyone you don't like a sperglord, aspie, autist, etc.
>>
>>282922
>Next year there'll be some other thing to mock.

I seriously doubt that. If the DSM and other such organizations got their shit together and just called it High-Functioning Autism, it might not be as funny anymore. Until then, I don't think it's use as an insult is going anywhere.
>>
>>282928
>I'm sure people first started using it in the right context, calling someone who had a beta/spaghetti moment a sperglord or whatever,

But that's incorrect context too, AS does not necessarily equate with spaghetti/beta. It's more of a completely misunderstanding of a social situation than it is being awkward all over the place like spaghetti represents, mostly. A complete lack of understanding is why I'm saying it makes for a poor insult in the first place. The word is not as simple as 'hipster' and 'edgy' and implies far more than what most people think it does.
>>
>>282929
>I don't think it's use as an insult is going anywhere.

Too late. It's already in common usage but like I said, something else will come along and we'll start using that instead.

I hope you're not offended by the usage of Asperger's or Autism, online.
If you get offended by these things, the internet is not for you I'm afraid.
>>
>>282931
> It's already in common usage
Yeah, not IRL. And I meant not going anywhere, as in not going away.

And I said in OP I'm not offended, just confused and a tiny bit annoyed.
>>
>>282932
I wasn't trying to have a go at you but it's pointless to get annoyed by these things.
There's loads of stuff online and IRL that I fucking hate but I've no choice but to deal with it and ignore a lot of shit.

Maybe it's because I'm old (41) and I've seen a lot of stuff come and go over the years.

As I said earlier, Asperger's and autism are fairly high profile at the moment but there'll be a new thing soon.

When I was a kid the word 'spastic' was the big insult at the time. So much so that the official Spastic Society even had to change their name in the UK.
>>
>>282935
>Asperger's and autism are fairly high profile at the moment
I (seriously) had no idea they're still high profile, I don't watch much news. That's where some of my confusion comes in, I thought the popularity had already run it's course in mainstream TV. Oh well, I still think a wordfilter wuld be laff.
>>
>>282938
They're high profile in the UK because we're arresting people all the time for internet related offences and they always claim Asperger's or autism as a defence in court.
>>
>>282943
Aren't Autistic children reclusive and would stay away from social sites?
>>
>>282946
Fuck knows. I'm just saying how it is these days.

These things didn't even have a name or definition when I was growing up and therefore no one suffered with them.
>>
>>282943
I suppose people like that are why it's become an insult.

>>282946
Autism doesn't mean the desire to be social isn't there, just a lot of the tools most people have.
>>
>>282943
As someone who has AS, when someone claims that, it makes me want to march down to the courtroom with a nailbat and bludgeon the bastard.
>>
As long as it's being over diagnosed and made into a new lifestyle, it will continue to be overused until it has no meaning. Much like "faggot, spic, nigger, retard, furfag" etc. It's used blindly by meta-trolls and tryhards since they are, ironically, autistic/childish themselves and NEED attention from people.

Still waiting for a new one directed towards "DIE CIS SCUM" faggots
>>
>>282943
That's funny considering if they didn't, they'd get jail raped. "Become the one I hate for mah freedum."
>>
>>282870 (OP)
Wordfilters do nothing.

It's the flavor of the month and will get replaced soon enough and then that something will go stale and be replaced with something else.

Such is life.
>>
>>282957
>DIE CIS SCUM
I'm sure that will catch on once more people learn what exactly CIS means. Right now it's too niche.

Asperger's is a great target because not only has pretty much everyone heard of it, there's still enough butthurt over using it as a pejorative to make it worthy.
>>
Its just a generic insult now thrown when either someone is losing an argument, doesn't have a comeback, or a shit troll who wants to get other users angry.

I also find it funny that some users accuse and respond to someone that their "projecting" when they have no comeback. It is just "I know you are, but what am I?"
>>
it's like Retard or Down Syndrome

just a common mental-disorder-based insult you shove on everyone you don't like

of course the people you say are autistic will just ignore you due to not having an argument
>>
>>283003
>>283096

labeling someone as autistic is different from calling someone stupid (when was the last time you saw that on 4chan) or retarded.

mostly, autistic applies to someone who is intelligent but not aware. like the guy from /sci/ who used to have non-stop /q/ threads about how infantile cartoon images were a problem on /sci/. he was clearly intelligent, but oblivious to the fact that his issue was a joke, and oblivious to the fact that everyone else in his 400 post threads was either disagreeing with him, or laughing at him.
>>
>>283003
People who insult people autistic are projecting being autistic. Don't believe me? Check out the CWCki, or any of the Chris Chan related forums/topic/imageboards. You'll be amazed.
>>
>>283118
It's understandable given that /sci/ is suppose to be an intelligent-scientific board yet are getting bombarded by unscientific shit daily.

When will they learn that a 4chan board simply can't be intelligent.
>>
These terms are simply just insults that mean "someone who disagrees with me"

They stick because people like OP either get offended or make a big enormous deal about it. Eventually it'll become old and relatively unused, like all words and terms on the internet do.

Until then, ignore it, filter it, whatever, just don't acknowledge it.
>>
>>283529

I've never seen an insult as popular as autist legitimately die on 4chan, except for butthurt. And the only reason for that was because both a wordfilter AND u mad (a viable alternative) happened at the same time.

Also, for the OP's information, autist/asperger's/etc was always being tossed around as a load of bullshit on 4chan, but it didn't become a meme meant for insulting purposes until the troll Manly Tears tried to permanently derail Minecraft threads.
>>
>>283118
>he was clearly intelligent

ahahahahaha
>>
Anon doesn't even know what autism is. Not all autistics are sensory avoiders. Some are sensory seekers. Autism is characterized by extremes, after all. I know a girl with aspergers who loves nothing more than constant partying, socializing, and physical contact.
