Browsing through /q/, I've seen a lot of posters mention mods by name, and every single time they have been wrong about identifying a mod via the mod's ban/deletion "behavior".Just because you know a few mod's names from IRC doesn't mean that those are the mods doing the banning/deleting. There are very few mods in #4chan, and the ones in there are actually some of the most helpful - especially when you've been unjustly banned for a long period or have been assigned a previously banned IP.We have many more mods than those who idle in #4chan, and many more janitors on top of that, so your chances of correctly identifying a mod by handle is very slim. If you have an issue, please don't assume it is a specific mod, because a whole team of people moderates this site, and it isn't constructive to try to identify the mod yourself. If we see that there is consistent complaint about moderation on a certain board, we can check the deletion logs and figure out who was doing it and talk to them. It's easier to get angry at someone who has a name, but trying to figure out who it was is only detrimental because you wrongly attribute things to some of the most helpful mods - the ones who idle in #4chan and help out users.Moderator Replies: >>123573 >>123615 >>123733 >>123735 >>123814 >>123873 >>123884
Sup lolimod[nospoilers]just kidding[/nospoilers]
How did you do the bold print?
>>123455He's a mod you fool
>>123455[b]Like this![ /b]
>>123455My guess is it has something to do with how his username appears in purple.
I think there was a glitch or something. I noticed that a whole bunch of posts were deleted in /ck/, and they were relevant posts to the topic of the /ck/ related threads. I think, earlier today, when the system was acting funny some things may have gotten deleted. IDK, I am not a wizard, but I doubt that a mod or janitor would have done that.
Shouldn't this be a sticky?
>>123496If a user created an especially egregious post and a mod banned him, he might have also chosen the option to delete all of that users posts, which disregards content of the other posts.>>123559There are so many stickies in here already. Don't want to clog it up any more than it already is.
>>123573Just chipping in but I've noticed a lot of random deleted posts this morning on all boards after the downtime. This anonymous apparently wasn't even banned.>>>/fa/4777189
>>123581Er, >>>/fa/4777591 specifically.
>>123583Really weird - looked through mod and janitor logs, and see no deletions on /fa/ for that time period.
I'm reasonably sure I saw one or two requests get filled on /r/ when the errors and shit started, but the posts vanished when posting came back online. There's also two posts on /q/ which were made at that time that disappeared. I remember because I made one of those "phantom" posts. Between that and the /fa/ posts that weren't moderated according to your logs (I'm not dismissing the possibility of the /q/ posts having been moderated, though I don't see why that would have been), some posts got definitely lost there during the hiccups.
On the topic of bans, rather than create another thread regarding this, is there any chance of adding the post caused the ban to happen in the ban reason or somewhere? I've heard of a lot of people saying they get banned because of some URL despite them never posting it, etc etc.It just seems like it would be great for both the person who got banned, and for the mod who reads the ban appeal (if there is one) and would clear up a good amount of confusion.
since there IS an actual mod in this thread:how are reports about alleged "troll post/thread" handled? if i see a thread like >>>/a/70474325, should i report it because troll bait or not? the line separating actual idiocy from trolling is a thin one, so what's the default course of action suggested?
>>123656Troll bait or not, people should not be banned for stating an unpopular opinion.
>>123671Either way, I suppose if you think something might be report-worthy, the janitors/mods will decide if it gets deleted anyway.
>>123671>>123656Unpopular opinions are not troll bait.An example of troll bait is Christianity vs Atheism, an unpopular opinion is that it doesn't matter so long as the individual is happy.Troll bait will cause a flame war, an unpopular opinion might start one but might not.
>>123682But complaining about a show being booooooooooring [sic] is idiotic enough for it to be treated as troll bait. Pulling the "opinion" card in its defense is bordering on fatuousness (by which I mean that something being someone's opinion would be no defense at all).
>>1236152spooky
Why won't mods do their work properly? they just ban people left and right without real reason and won't even reply to plea.
>>123640Mods can't make these kinds of changes, but I will mention to moot.
>>123656Nothing wrong with that post - he just doesnt like it.Now, if he went on /a/ and started a thread like "WHY DO YOU FAGGOTS LIKE ANIME - ANIME IS SO BORING", then you can report it.
>>123735I like you, moddles.
>>123735Just for some clarification, is /vg/ (mainly the the threads with rampant use of avatars) mainly used as a quarantine for the avatarfags, or do mods actually try to ban them?
>>123735He should be punished for using "booooooooooring" with that many o's.
>>123753The people who should be punished are the ones who intentionally use an excessive amount of ironic shitposting to discredit things they don't like. For example, most of the posts in this thread:>>>/a/70478152
>>123733Awesome, thanks a bunch.
it's nice and all that some of the mod staff actually give a shit it is appreciated!but why do some mods get away with so much bullshit? it only encourages more shitposting sources - every sticky made on /v/ for the past 12-18 months (battlefield server, harmony, TWEWY, other shit game announcements)-invisibro shitposting on /fit/ with his mod trip on (hey guys let me link to this anon's other posts! that'll show him to have a different opinion to me!!)
also how many mods are there? the figures out there seem to range from "many" to barely enough to cope with all the reporting
>>123767There probably are quite a few, but still not enough to deal with a site the size of 4chan.
>>123440>"behavior".Look ``man,'' you need to understand that punctuation goes INSIDE the quotes.
>>123767>"many" to barely enough to cope with all the reportingThose aren't mutually exclusive.
>>123811It's an Atlantic thing. Some people do "both!".
>>123811Look man, you need to realize different parts of the world do it differently.
>>123811http://thewritecorner.wordpress.com/2010/01/28/punctuation-%E2%80%93-inside-or-outside-quotation-marks/
So I'm guessing from this thread that inane trolling mod isn't invisibro...Is he anyone people would know? Please tell me he's bat guano, I want to see some delicious /k/ tears.
Maybe we non-mods can figure out his handle through his posts here:http://www.mediafire.com/?0xg2l4ervy4y72y
cool story bro now go clean up /sp/
What happened to the mod who banned someone for supporting pedophilia(supportign loli) and the report abusers who hate Naruto spam? Is she locked out of /a/?
>>123843Demodded from what I heard, hopefully banned out of existence as well for that travesty. Would expect nothing less personally.
>>123817>>123818>>123829Ok I learned something today
>>123843>sheFor fucks sake, there was never a female mod.
>>123848>>123843>>123837>>123833Speculating about who is doing what is exactly what you shouldn't be doing. It helps nothing.
Bring back red text for bans. I know it doesn't achieve much but at least it shows that you're trying. Here's a good place to start >>>/b/420280239>inb4 I get banned to set an exampleI just think the red banned text serves as a slight warning to other shitposters.
>>123852That was 6 months ago
>>123855It's not like there wasn't a pony war a year ago. Also read the stickies.
>>123852Wasn't Liska female? She probably wasn't active anymore by the time moot made that post.
>>123861Also in case it isn't clear, not implying Liska is >>123843
Are you still here mod?I want to ask you a couple of questions about the software that you guys use.I'm not a developer or anything, but I would like to know if the mods have issues mass banning spam with the current software.
>>123862>>123861There are still no female mods.>>123866CAPTCHA and filters prevent most of the mass bot spam. The rest is manual human spam (paid professional spammers / sad sacks of shit who have nothing better to do than spam a site where their post will live a few hours at most), which is relatively easy to deal with, but as they are either paid and/or have no lives, they tend to evade and come back.
>>123761>battlefield server, harmony, TWEWY, other shit game announcementsAll video game related. If you don't like a sticky, don't read it.
>>123873But I mean deleting and banning stuff.Does the software allow you to, for example, select all the threads on a board or thread and ban them all? Because I think that would be an useful feature to combat spam. If you had a software that remembered all the non offending posts that you didn't highlight and only highlight new posts then you will be able to ban spam more effectively.
>>123440How many people regularly moderate /sci/?
>>123884Yo, mod. We've had this discussion a thousand times on /g/, and I'd like to hear your opinion.>Do desktops belong on /g/.Now, at first you're probably thinking "Well, they're on a computer" but as to the content of the thread that's completely wrong. They're just an excuse for the #pantsumen IRC faggots to circlejerk over their wallpapers, and it has been suggested that the desktop threads should go to >>>/wg/.There's almost zero technology discussion, and it turns into a ratings contest that has strict rules (GNU/Linux and minimalism).Do you think these should permanent fixture on >>>/wg/?Because the sticky there seems to show tolerance for them not, and lately the ones on /g/ have been spammed to shit.
>>123884Harmony isn't video game related at all. It's stupid video game culture shit. And the battlefield server is advertising which is only allowable because of the mod posting is.Why do we even complain about moderation when the mod at fault is the one who says "HAHA NOTHING'S WRONG HERE. DEAL WITH IT, PEASANTS" and the moderators themselves don't get moderated.
>>123884>Battlefield serverThat's... slightly okay, but it doesn't need to be stickied unless you wanted to make some sort of sticky that outright stated "Here are the official /v/ servers for (x video game)." Even then, it would probably start a shitstorm.>HarmonyBlatantly tertiary shit, as defined by the sticky on /v/. At this point, it's "board culture" shit and needs to take a backseat for a while as we get our shit together. >TWEWY, other shit game announcementsWhat do you define as announcements? I see nothing wrong with talking about video games on /v/ (which is what it is there for), but its not something that deserves spam and shitposting just to call attention to it.
>>123761Why was there a TWEWY sticky?
Also, Kinomod is that you in the Ritsu thread cleaning stuff up, or is it just some really nice Janitor?Either way nice job. I don't even like K-on but that's pretty cool
>>1239504chan needs more posts like this.Mods get a lot of shit and little praise.
>>123945>Blatantly tertiary shit, as defined by the sticky on /v/. At this point, it's "board culture" shit and needs to take a backseat for a while as we get our shit together. Echoing."Harmony" is as relevant as Deep Sea trash at this point. It no long has anything to do with the game (Unicorn Attack/Pressure), but it survives on the argument of "Hey, this started out being about a game four or five years ago so now it's totally still game related."
>>123945>>123884Battlefield was ONLY stickied because it was a mod's server. It's definitely not any more /v/ related than any of the cs or tf2 servers ran by /v/ users over the past 5 years or so, some of which were absolutely fantastic. Why ignore community ran things to only sticky your own server? It's attention seeking and ignorantHarmony isn't video games at all, it's /v/ culture shit posting. I still find it funny but it encourages the shitposting????TWEWY I have ignored, again it's just I don't see the point of stickying that announcement but whatever. Thank you for responding! Not going to argue, just throwing some thoughts out there (one of those thoughts being that a certain mod likes to sticky topics that bring him attention)>>123946because a sequel to TWEWY was announced and that requires a sticky for some reason.
